I like it.

Overrated insanely. It's not scary.

Playing right now. Arrived on the Prison, i'm sad for the blonde, she was hot af
Pretty good game

Worst of the first 4

Anyone who says 3 is better is full of shit.

Its a nice game.
Be sure to play the first Silent Hill too if you haven't already.

Masterpiece

I think the first half of three has some of the best atmosphere in the series.
Does kinda get stale around the part where you actually get to Silent Hill though, ironically enough.

It was the scariest out of the first 3? I don't know why people think 1 and 3 are so much scarier.

It's not about being scared zoom zoom

Best silent hill game imo. In fact, one of the best and most memorable games I've played in my life

A spectacle of atmospheric immersion. Truly haunting and surreal. One of the best horror based games out there, def set a bar

The only right answer. The game deals with some heavy shit and does it well in ways that most games even now wouldn’t dream of doing.

Most overrated horror game of all time. Pyramid Head is pretty cool tho.

Not only the easiest Silent Hill game but one of the easiest games ever made. No tension to be had when you just hold forward on the stick.

This. Probably hasn't aged well in the graphics department, but I haven't had another experience like it.

I couldn’t have put it better myself.

Not to mention that it isn’t just scary for the sake of it, theres reason behind everything in the game as surreal and as abstract as it gets.

Confirmed for just seeing the movie

Pretty good

I'd like to buy this game but its expensive.

It feels like a living nightmare

Hot Take: 4 was the most interesting game in the series and has the best antagonist in the series.

Also, had the best soundtrack.

I love Akira Yamaoka and listen to Silent Hill music almost every day

4 is barely even a Silent Hill game.

The base PS2 version seems pretty common. Prolly find it for decent price. But the expanded edition is worth it

Either hack a PS2, emulate the PS2 version or go through the trouble of setting up the PC version with all the fixes.

There some great things about it but they were obviously trying some weird shit that just didn't work

Expensive? From what I can see it’s pretty cheap, even the PS2 original disc.

I can agree with that. I like the game, I just don’t really consider it to be a Silent Hill game. It is pretty out there though.

Worth playing nowadays? Did you replayed it to reafirm that?
I'm no wasting my time in a "well, was good when it came out" shit

>that second half of the game which is literally backtracking the first half while escorting a frail and braindead npc across respawning enemies, invincible enemies and invincible ranged enemies

i wanted to like 4 but jesus man

malevolent town>>>church ladies

I generally liked it. In some ways I felt like it was a step back from 1 though in a handful of ways aside from the story.

I litterally just beat it yesterday on my original PS2 disc from when it first came out and I can confirm that it is still worth playing.

If you can get past the tank controls then the game is unilike anything ever in the games industry to this day.

I play it every year around Halloween and I still love it. It's really atmospheric and sad.

Based

Exactly. That’s what basically every other games in the series completely disregarded.

What made Silent Hill 2 so fantastic is the fact that it complete ditched the generic evil cult bullshit and puts the focus completely on the town itself and how it preys on human beings.

It's a good game. It's also the go to game for contrarians to hate.

2's premise is kind of hard to pull off more than once as great as it was.

Nah, that's Silent Hill 3.

Its unironically comfy

it's fantastic
always come back to it every year or a few months

I can play the HD edition on the 360 for absolutely free because me and my friend gameshare. I know they fucked up the remaster but is it still worth playing as long as I'm aware of the differences?

>That’s what basically every other games in the series completely disregarded.
>SH2, Homecoming, Downpour, Origins, Shattered Memories, Book of Memories

Literally over half the series is about people dealing with some guilt and the town acting as a therapist.

Not the specific premise, but the core idea of this town that can do something like that opens up a lot of different stories they could make with many different types of people going to the town.

It’s just a shame they didn’t fucking make any of them.

3 is worse though.

I find it the other way around. The subway and mall and sewers are godawful

In my restless dreams, I see that town.

No, just emulate it on PC or something

Aesthetically brilliant but too easy outside of the Pyramid Head encounters. Still a classic, but the weakest of the original SH trilogy.

Emulate the ps2 version or play the PC port. The PC port isn't perfect but it's better than the godawful HD collection.

True, then let me reword that.

2 is the only game that does that premise well and deals with insanely dark subject matter while still being mature and not exploitative. The later games either ignore that and go back to the cult bullshit or don’t do it right AT ALL.

same, i remember hearing it wasnt supposed to be a silent hill game in first place and would be called just "The Room" but they used the SH brand for marketing.

town made him stupid

OP here, came back to check on the thread and just finished reading through the comments so far. Wow it’s nice to have a thread that isn’t just people arguing with each other honestly. This threads pretty comfy right now, it’s cool to see all these opinions on this game.

Silent Hill threads are usually pretty comfy. The only points of contention are Tomm Hulett and Voidburger.

Shattered Memories does it literally though, since the whole game is Cheryl trying to block out her bad memories of Harry.

It was ALWAYS a Silent Hill game. It was based around Walter, who was mentioned in SH2. It was just planned to be a side game, one focusing on the towns otherwordly powers reaching outside.

It was always intended to be part of the Silent Hill universe, though it started as more of a spin-off rather than a full blown sequel to 3.

Thanks.

In Water is clearly the real ending of the game.

i got a letter

Without a doubt but the interactive nature of the story makes Leave possible.

Yeah but at the same time I could totally see James leaving with Maria...

For me, its Heather.

Attached: h.jpg (900x600, 116K)

There's a moment in SH2 where James gives Angela the usual argument against suicide(Persevere, there's always another way, you're strong enough to get past this). It's interesting to think how the endings might be interpreted from a japanese perspective. In the west into the water comes off as a horrifying collapse of Jame's mental state, but maybe the Japanese developers would see it as an honorable choice.

Needs to be remade RE2 style.

Play that version as a last resort if you can’t find another way to play it.
The 360 version was never patched either so it’s really really bad

3's fucking retarded though

I really liked it, the prison level was pure ludokino as well as the burned hotel segment, but the game in general was not very difficult except for the puzzles

not even the right pyramid head lmao

absolutely not
