There is no excuse for a combat system this fucking janky.
You have DD/MH/Souls to copy from, it is NOT that fucking hard.
Yeah, looked up a guide to get the ranged weapons in ELEX.
Never dealt with melee again. Also with the amount of enemies in later locations the game seems to be balanced with ranged in mind.
>Also with the amount of enemies in later locations the game seems to be balanced with ranged in mind.
Not at all. The ones you have to face in big numbers are mainly the Alb armies, and they are less dangerous when you engage them in melee. A sword or a slow hammer is less dangerous than a barrage of laser, plasma, and the holy flammenwerfer. Not to mention an enchanted end-game melee weapon kills them in about half as many hits as an end-game gun.
Both are janky trash so sure.
>DD/MH/Souls t
except its not their genre its with gothic/risen you ignorant console faggit
You can't really say that when gothic/risen was not even an inspiration for them.
>someone finally makes a low-level adventurer game
>the combat sucks
Fuck's sake.
Worst timeline, I had such high hopes for this. Is the combat really that bad?
>le ebin "survival" garbage
I'm going to try this game out and it better be REALLY fucking good
It's barely 'survival,' all you really do is eat/drink/sleep every now and then, mostly for the buffs associated with cooked food.
just do yourself a favor and don't, user.
the game's just a disgusting cashgrab with store-bought assets thrown around a fucking piss-ass map. I wouldn't consider this a playable game even in fucking 2002.
combat's horrible, the survival aspect is boiled dog ass and AI is just broken. The game's uninteresting and unpolished in every way conceiveable. I've never been more disappointed in a game like this in a while.
This game reminds me of Kenshi if you only controlled one unit and didn't have town building from what it looks like.
I'm very interested, but I might wait for the combat to improve otherwise it might soil the experience for me.
>actively encouraging people to not play a game for themselves and come to their own conclusions
Fuck you, you are the worst kind of person. Let him play it for a hour or two or more, however long it personally takes him to decide if the game is or isn't for him. He may not care for it and move on or may discover a truly fun game. Evidently he's interested enough to even give the game a shot.
how much they paying you to shill this genuinely unfinished heap of garbage, my man?
You tell people to chow down on dog turds on the sidewalk too?
Oh shut the fuck up.
Pretty shit desu especially the combat
No idea what they were thinking with Tsar weapons all being 0.8 speed, it makes the 1H weapons totally useless and every weapon except greataxe is complete shit due all of them having shitty weapon specific skills.
You can practically get fully "endgame" geared in like 15 mins.
>go to montcalm fort
>get on the roof and talk to invisible NPC to get the 110 bag
>go through spooky pass, then wine cellar, drink wine at grave for free tsar stone
>blitz to the marsh then dark ziggurat
>use the secret switch halfway down the elevator
>get the tsar stone, palladium sword and hackamantite
>beat the plague doctor with the sword
>turn the sword into paladium scrap
congrats now you have the best weapon, the best bag, now you just need to farm up 1000 silver and go to monsoon to get Perfect Strike and one shot everything
If you don't have friends to play with don't bother. In coop the game can be very fun.
Sounds like somebody got raped at the bandit camp over and over and lost their town to warlords and didn't get to hoard everything in their backpack because 'my knees are weak :(' so they're blaming the combat for their shortcomings. Heh I see it every day.
>game let's you do whatever you want right from the start
This is a good thing, though. No arbitrary limits. Also the bag thing is an exploit, it's not really fair to add that to you list.
Sounds like the issue is you, not the game. Don't play like a fuck-ass and the game won't suck-ass.
not him, but the game is not nearly fleshed out and interactive enough to make it feel like a real adventure. It just feels so hollow to play, and I want my $40 back now
"The game is not for me and I have buyer's remorse."
ftfy
Stole some webms from a thread a few days ago when I was thinking about buying the game. Played about 36 hours since then. The combat's really not bad at all. It's not amazing or anything, but I like it more than the combat in most RPGs that aren't Dark Messiah and Mountain Blade (and Souls games since it's basically a different and less smooth version of that).
I feel like there are only 1 or 2 people spam posting and getting overly defensive of this mediocre game
"my friend dave promised me five bucks if I get onl Yea Forums and say something nice about his videogame."
yeah nah, top stuff. It's nothing short of appalling wanting people to pay the full price for this doggy-dick-gargling simulator. the combat is the easiest thing about it, you can kite a whole army in starter gear.
Reminder
The game definitely has issues though. The combat is a bit rough around the edges, especially when you're just starting out. The multiplayer seems to be a bit buggy. And they would also REALLY benefit from some sort of costly fast travel system that you could unlock after progressing a bit, something like Morrowind's that lets you go between towns for a fee would be really nice to have, or maybe some teleportation magic that you could learn later on in the game.
Also movement speed gear is really nuts, and the AI doesn't know what to do when you get to a point where you can simply strafe around them, and it's even something they can struggle with early on. It's easily the weakest point of the combat in my eyes.
Also the general pacing can be a bit tedious at times. Until you realize that a lot of the shit you're picking up is something you'll find a hundred copies of throughout your game and that it's not worth lugging around, or you start getting into setting up intermediate camps out in the wilderness, or you get a really good backpack and some +movement speed gear, you'll likely spend a bunch of time simply ferrying gear from your full backpack to your stash in town. That gets old real quick, but to a large degree, that's something the player is ultimately responsible for.
I dunno, I've been waiting a while for a new RPG where I can just fuck off and go do whatever exploring and dungeoneering I want with combat that's halfway decent, so I'm probably a bit biased. It can be a good game if that's what you're looking for, I think. If you want something with excellent combat and tons of it, it's probably not gonna be for you.
>inb4 thread dies now after I've been wanting to get some actual video game discussion on Yea Forums today
I know it will ;_;
I'm just waiting for patches that fixed the game before starting a split screen game.
Don't care if it's bad, just rolling around with a friend is worth it as long as the game is not collapsing on itself
I haven't played nearly as much co-op as I have on my own, but I've noticed more weird, buggy shit in the several hours of coop than in the ~30 hours I've played alone. I can't imagine they didn't notice that shit was fucked up while simultaneously touting the cooperative side of the game.
I noticed this in singleplayer also. I've been getting crashes and weird bugs like the action key getting stuck, not being able to talk to merchants, more camera twitches, items getting stuck on the sell screen... etc. as I pile on the hours. Also long load times because of all the stuff I hoarded. Had to send my armor and weapon collection to a mule to help with that.
>hurr you can break the game if you know exactly what to do beforehand
i'm extremely suspicious of the quality of this game but this is a stupid complaint
Oh damn. I haven't noticed anything like that yet in singeplayer, so hopefully my luck holds up. The only thing I've really noticed is the camera freaking out in really close quarters sometimes (though I'm not sure if what happens in the webm is due to that or my mouse spazzing out, which it does occasionally because my mousepad is actually a fucking Magic playmat).
>Had to send my armor and weapon collection to a mule to help with that.
How does that work?
Counterstrike seems really good. I've been pulling my hair out which one to decide on between FO or CS.
Does this have branching paths or choice and sequence with character creation/npc party members?
Or it it just rpg as far as gameplay goes with survival shit tackled in
>I dunno, I've been waiting a while for a new RPG where I can just fuck off and go do whatever exploring and dungeoneering I want with combat that's halfway decent, so I'm probably a bit biased.
Developers really need to learn how to make their mobs roam the map instead of patrolling in a 1 meter area. The monsters and bandits already fight each other but they're usually stuck in their spawn points until the player aggros them.
The dungeons are hit or miss. Some are fairly big with some puzzles in them, while some are really small with barely anything in them. Also, did another person do Enmerkar Forest? There seems to be a quality drop in that zone compared to the others.
I kinda was too because both sound really nice. That was pommel counter in the webm though. I didn't have Counterstrike at the time. I have it now though since I've switched to using spears, and I don't regret that at all. It doesn't require you to have the Discipline boon up, which is nice (not that it's hard to maintain with Brace, Focus, and pots). Haven't tried Flash Onslaught. I figured the AOE was unnecessary with glorious lanters, traps, and not being bad, but I bet it's fucking cool since Precise Strike is pretty cool too.
The latter outside of picking one of three factions. Survival shit is minimally intrusive though, for whatever that's worth.
>How does that work?
Plug in a controller and do a 2 player split screen.
Thanks, I guess I'll skip, then.
WOuld rather have something like ELEX with more RPG things narrative wise
Yeah for sure. One of the best parts about STALKER was that you'd run into AI patrols and mutant packs and all the interactions they'd have with the player and each other. It's amazing how rare something like that seems to be in games. As far as the hit or miss dungeons/areas go, I was notably disappointed to find that you can't enter the big fort in the first bandit camp in Charonese (the one at the tope of the map).I thought that I'd be really getting into the shit after killing the dude with the bigass sword/halberd, but nope. I haven't been to Enmerkar much yet. Only just started going there after the swamp.
I'm retarded. I forgot there's split-screen.
>speed equipment
A shame its the best set in the game besides the skeleton one. Going fast is just too valuable.
>find that you can't enter the big fort in the first bandit camp
You mean the small, locked room in the camp with the ornate chest or the ancient ruins next to the camp? I really feel like this game needed another year of development but they probably ran out of money and decided to release it.
Yeah I need to break away from using the sanic-set all the time because it's honestly fucking ugly. But it makes traversing the world so nice. Especially with water buff and the watamell toast.
Whatever's behind the door that's by the frost mage and barricaded by barrels and shit. But yeah, some extra dev time could have been great. At this point, I'm really hoping they add some sort of post-game or alternative mode where you basically just dungeon crawl forever.
I actually prefer this game's combat over ELEX. Has much more control over the character. It's only bad with the overuse of hitstop and enemy variety is barebone. It's also boring until you get some more skills.
World is boring ass though. ELEX completely destroys it.
It also makes sprinting as good as dodging in most situations. If they made the skeleton outfit go over your armor it would be the perfect combination.
I only use FO for clearing trash mobs which it would most likely oneshot or as a finisher. It sucks losing Discipline mid combat since both have long ass cooldowns and you only have 8 quickslots. Though maybe I can swap my health potion slot for a discipline potion and spam it.
True enough. Not to mention that it more than doubles your pocket size, which is nice.
Map is a slog to traverse, and is empty. That's a deadly combination. It kills literally any good thing the game has going for it. They need to make a fast travel system, or make the over world actually something other than an empty corridor with a background set piece and gathering nodes.
What should I do to start making money early on? Still just an hour or two in and would like to start getting some skills.
i think the combat's fine, it takes some getting used to, but i dont really know what people are calling janky about the combat; it seems to work as intended. the combat may not be a high point, but if you like the concepts of the rest of the gameplay then you should give it a shot. might want to pirate it, since it seems like people love it or hate it
I have potions in there I dont even remember getting. Going too fast to pay attention.
the problem with the combat is actually the AI. it's so basic that it didn't really matter how good the mechanics are (which are not great but fine)
It definitely feels clunkier than a souls game. The character feels like it's moving through muddy ground. It's not as bad as some people say though.
I use mine for all combat-related shit I may want mid-fight. Pots, traps & trap accessories, a few lanterns, rags/varnishes, a bow, etc. I think next playthrough I'll have to force myself to stick to at least heavy armor chest/head for aesthetics. Using Master Trader set in my first playthrough was a mistake.
you'll notice that nobody said anything about buying the game
After getting over the curve, I don't think the game is hard enough to really min-max it. Fuck Runic plate and all it's stamina penalties though.
No, you're absolutely right, but the mobility for traversing the world itself is just so fucking huge.
it's not good, check every single outward thread here and you'll see people begging for modding support so the game can be fixed
they also unironically push magic over melee because of how shit the combat is
Just carry a pearl bird mask and master trader boots and swap to it when you're just running around. They're only one pound each.
There are already mods out there on Nexus. It’s just that installing them requires some extra steps
I stumbled across this boss pretty early on and actually got him down to about 10-20% and then every hit afterwards dealt no damage to him. What the fuck is that all about?
>they also unironically push magic over melee because of how shit the combat is
>meanwhile all the webms in this thread are melee
Only brainlets push that.
I have no idea. I was using scaled leather and a gold-lich claymore the first time I ran into him and just never stood a chance. It was a great set against the other lich though,
Yeah, that's probably what I'll do, if I can ever get a fucking mask to drop, that is. Spent a few in-game days letting myself get ambushed relentlessly with no luck. Maybe I'll do it later while watching some Stargate or something.
Elex >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> trash >>>>>>>>>>>>> Outtard
Elex 2 when?
unironically based
Playing this did get me in the mood for more jank. I should grab ELEX when it goes on sale.
