And rightfully so. The overwhelming majority of people who play games are white males. In a single player, story driven game, relatability to the character is key. It is much harder for people to relate to people of different genders and races. If you don't relate to the character, you don't care about them, you find them less interesting, and the game suffers as a result. And in a medium like video games, where the overwhelming majority of people both making and playing games are white males, have non white male leads is almost always a politically/agenda driven decision which also further hurts the product. Black people don't want to play as white people, white people don't want to play as black people, men don't want to play as women, women don't want to play as men, it's human fucking nature. If black people and women don't like it, then they can make their own games. If they want people to make games for them, they should play games more. As it stands now the overwhelming majority of people making and playing games are white males, and main characters in story driven games should remain as white males.

Not true, America is still by far the largest market for movies in the world. Also in the case of movies, different types of movies and franchises attract and appeal to different types of audiences. Also plenty of non white and non male people make movies. It's not as cut and dry as to what race and gender the star of a movie should be, as not all movies have the same audience and not all movies are made by white males. However, every video game (not counting phone apps) all have white males as the overwhelming majority of their fans, and almost all video games are made by predominately white males. Completely different scenarios, but nice try.

How do we know if the character is bland? Generic looking sure, I don't disagree, but it's not because he's a white male, it's because he's generic looking. Make a generic looking black guy or black girl, they'd be just as bland looking. That being said the character still could be interesting, we don't know anything about him yet except for what we saw in the trailer, although I don't have much hope since it's coming from EA.

Right, and that's a bad business practice, like Rey vs. Ahsoka. However, whenever there is a game or movie with a female or minority lead everyone jumps to the conclusion of a political agenda instead of letting the characters speak for themselves and letting people get representation so they can feel as good as when us white males get represented.
People want to be represented, and that's why more women and poc writers are getting into the business. It's like a movie being directed towards a specific audience; look at "Us", directed by Jordan Peele.
On a subconscious level, every character panders to a certain audience, so why not let people pander? If the characters are well written, it works; if they're not, fuck it, move on to the next one.
