It's decent and charming if you go blind. The fuckery it pulls off during the final bosses is very interesting. The OST is also damn good, and the battle system is fine, the ability to spare enemies instead of just killing them makes it unique. That being said, people overrate Undertale way too much, it's certainly not a 10/10 masterpiece, and it becomes annoying to replay in subsequent playthroughs. The genocide route is also extremely boring and grind-heavy outside of two very fun boss battles.

The snow area is the highlight for me, I got fed up of the game during the water area that followed. The areas afterwards are better but the water area is where issues with the battle system become apparent. There's only about three different enemies in the water area, and if you're doing a pacifist run that means you forced to act out the same gag with them over and over again. The muscle horse flexing off the screen is funny once, but after you've been forced to see him do it ten times you'll just be pissed off.

See I've never really read "masterpiece" as 'the best thing by a creator", I read it as "something created by a master of their craft". Like a master chef could cook a dozen masterpiece meals in one day. The word dates back to guild traditions, where your "master piece" was the work you did to prove that you had completed your apprenticeship and were worthy of being called a master.

I really didn't like it, and while I am usually fully capable of seeing why people like something while disliking it myself, it was one of those games that registered as something that should be considered objectively bad.
