Is Hack n' Slash genre dead?

I know we had great games like Dmc5 and Sekiro, and some mediocre games like Nier A, GoW or Kingdom Hearts 3. But the amount of games is really low compared to the 6th or 7th gen

Only open world shit and FPS gets pushed for the most part. And games made by western devs are too clunky to be good hack and slash anymore. If it were 2005 again, it would be a different case.

Nier A, GoW, and KH3 were all good though. None of them were great but they were enjoyable 7/10's.

Dont get me wrong user. I dont consider those games to be bad, I actually enjoyed those games

I've always found hack n slash medicore, surprised its not more popular with todays zoomer ADHD culture

Learn to make a good sentence autistic dmc fan.

>a bunch of games come out in a genre
>THOSE DONT COUNT IS IT DEAD
What an actually dead genre looks like: RTS

>I actually enjoyed those games
>but I wrote them off as mediocre
I fucking hate this utterly retarded line of thinking like you're trying to fit in. Who are you trying to convince? Are you so afraid to admit something you like or are you trying to take some """""objective"""""" stance in this due to those games faults? Its not working, you're only looking retarded as mentioned already.

I think a better argument is that industry trends are leading away from these types of games.

>Hack n' Slash

I'm new to DMC. Should I get the HD collection or the Definitive Edition of the original?

HD collection is great

HD collection. Also, welcome.

So whats the difference? Is it just the framerate improvement in the Definitive Edition?

??

>Definitive Edition of the original
subtle

And some few grafic "improvements." But thats all. The game is playable

nvm, actually clinically retarded, sorry for your loss

Oh my god, what an assblasted faggot. Go make some drama on discord, bitch

Calling something mediocre is essentially the same thing as calling something bad.

Thanks for the intel. I'll pick up the HD collection then.

Hack and Slash's are dumb nostalgiabait, outdated PS2 gameplay

>Nier A
Does NieR really count? The focus isn't so much on the combat as it is to make the combat good enough to not be middlesome. It's a plot driven game first and foremost.

>GoW
This even more so. It's not a game that really wants to be in the genre, why force it?

Hack and Slash isn't dead but it is no longer a dominant, mainstream genre. It was replaced by the open world RPG.

Just for not making a new thread, should I play like Nero or V? The game is letting me choose. Is there a big diference besides playing CRAAAAZY or emo?

Just choose the one you like.

Yeah. Because a mediocre game is forgotten. Bad and good games are remembered.

and what is not outdated gameplay than?

Western devs don't do Hack n' Slash. They don't really do melee well wither. They tend to do shooters and open world games.
Japan does the hack n' slash games and they were in a slump for a while.

You can't really compare the 8th gen with the 6th gen. They shat out game like crazy because they had easy assets. Once they made one successful game they could make a new one with same shit they created before and no one would give a shit, and this was for any genre really. Not a hack and slash, but the tales of series is a great example. They put out one game every year from 2000-2005, even 2 games in 2005. All of them are the same shit, but they are still good games cuz they keep their quality points. DMC2 would be the bad example where it didn't work so well, but they still did it because they could. Imagine if they rushed out DMC6 like they did with 2 and it was equally bad, it would almost straight up kill the franchise and not because of past mistakes that 2 was. More that it would cost them so much more money.

Literally doesn't matter.

and what isn't outdated gameplay than?

Buy them for the ps2 and ps3 for the real experience.

>character action games
>the character action isn't the focus

might as well hand the licenses to david cage's team then. Make them interactive story games and stop wasting people's times

It's hard to do a decent hack n' slash game user.
You need to keep it simple enough so that it doesn't become a shitty RPG, while introducing mechanics/gimmicks that make the game unique.

Choose the one you like.

I want to redpill genderbent vergil on the power of my cum.

Dude the only one game mentioned there that can be considered as a Character action game is Nier Automata. And it actually has too many flaws to fit in the subgenre, like enemy design and AI, which is the worst part of the game. GoW reboot is just a basic hack n slash/cinematic experience

It just looks dated to zoomers, just like old FPS, RTS and arcade games.

You are wrong

I agree with you
