What are some DARK games? Not thematically, but the actual physical absence of light.

Dark Souls 3
DOOM 3
Metro 2033 requires you to be in almost pitch blackness to be stealthy. Last Light went to the stupid "dimly lit room = literally invisible" system that people like for some reason.
I haven't played many games featuring one, but in Dragon's Dogma going out at night is pretty difficult.
Manhunt
Outward. You need a lantern and everything.
I wish the night time enemy variety was more mixed up, though. I like that skeletons and zombies pop up, but I wish some of the larger monsters were replaced with nocturnal equivalents
The fucking basement of the elementary school in FEAR 2
You literally don't get a light except for your muzzle flash
I was so sick of Fear 2 by the end of it.
>walk 5 steps
>BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
>walk another 5 steps
>BLARRRRRRRGGHH
Fuck off. The game was literally 50% jump scares
Limbo
Rust is so obnoxiously dark that I don't even go outside at night unless I have to. Yes, you can craft torches or flashlights but then some faggot who's been playing for 30 hours straight since wipe time snipes you from the top of his unreachable tower, and you lose all your shit. The sniper then complains when the server pop drops to zero after a few days. Then you wait another month for the next wipe day and it all starts over.
>every single metallic object and stone surface shines so brightly it looks like an item from a distance
I don’t know what they did with the lighting system after dark souls 1 but it looks like ass
Is there a game that deals with light realistically? For instance
>walk into a pitch black area
>can't see anything
>take out a light source, and you can see as far as the light reaches
>or continue on in the dark and let your eyes slowly adjust to see everything to a lesser intensity, but without being confined by a light source's range limitations
Minecraft
Outward. Nights get pitch black and lanterns illuminate about 10 feet in front of you and nothing more. Caves are also pitch black but lanterns work since they have walls to bounce light off of.
The problem is that enemies can see you easier if you have your lantern on, but they also have trouble seeing you if you're stumbling around in the dark, making for some easy backstabs.
Penumbra, kinda. Your eyes do adjust, but only when you sit still. It has more to do with the game telling you when you're invisible to passing enemies who aren't already alerted.
Amnesia had this, I think? It takes like 10 seconds until you achieve "night vision" or so. But pitch blackness also drives your character insane to the point of grinding his teeth and hallucinating insects.
MGS 3
just turn up the gamma bro :^)
>Outward
my nigerian acquaintance
fucking piece of shit why can't I see and shot at the same time I hate you
But that's part of what makes Doom 3 a great horror FPS and a horrible Doom game.
when your first instict on "seeing" an enemy or anything interesting is to turn around 360 degrees away from it and opening fire at whatever teleported up your fucking asshole, you're going too ham on the jump scares
Literally came in here to say this: ESPECIALLY the expansion, which is literally almost impossible to play due to the fact that you literally can't see shit.
Outlast
darkwood is the quintessential dark game
