At what point exactly did console manufacturers IQs collectively drop 20 standard deviations and they all decided to start using these shitty touch power buttons exclusively?
At what point exactly did console manufacturers IQs collectively drop 20 standard deviations and they all decided to...
standard deviations just variability may be more likely to have a lesser IQ though that doesnt mean they would though
flip top drives > tray loading drives > slot loading drives
prove me wrong. protip you can't
Fuck knows, also this gen has taught me not to buy a console on release since they are releasing straight upgraded hardware.
That's because these aren't consoles, they are PCs masquerading as consoles. Almost all meaningful distinctions are gone.
They've been doing this since the 90's. How have you just now caught on?
they still possess the worst elements of consoles like the proprietary OS & systemwide DRM. they have all the downsides of pcs with none of the benefits
Blah blah blah. Every single console has been a PC since inception with custom APIs and firmwire built in. In the 80s game consoles literally had keyboard and mouse and printer addons.
who cares, just start it with your controller
That and both the XB1/PS4 launched missing basic features in the OS that the 360/PS3 could do.
NES, SNES, Genesis, PS, PS2,GameCube, Wii first models are all objectively better, all revisions remove functionality or lower quality for cost saving measures.
They still have console benefits such as price/power ratio, optimization, simplicity, physical media.
Yeah they are all computers, a TI-83+ is a computer. The difference now is that PS4/XBONG run x86 AMD APUs, and have some degree of USB support, interchangeable HDDs. The real death knell is the Pro/Scorpio which is market segmentation in terms of power thus mandating graphics options as present in Nioh with the tradeoff between quality and performance. XBONG runs on the windows 8 kernel, for fuck's sake.
In terms of being better optimized for consoles, the only game I can think of where this makes a difference is Deus Ex MD (and it still runs poorly). every other game runs exactly how you'd expect given the hardware in the machine, and no better than an equivalent pc
are you too retarded to put your finger over the button?
are you just mad because theres no giant button that says "ON"?
I have trouble finding good couch coop or local multiplayer games
at least they've moved away from glossy shells
Not many on console either, they've been moved online.
I used to have a friend who bought a 360 elight just for the sensor. He raved about it up and down but there were so many times he would end up turning of his console reaching for his TV to change volume or when his cats would just walk past it, and those were only the times where I was there
Ease of use isn't the only reason to think touch buttons are shit.
My OG PS4 now randomly decides to eject the disc because the touch button keeps getting activated for whatever reason. This is a very common issue, which is why 2nd gen and the Slim/Pro don't have touch buttons.
Yeah a physical button is ALWAYS better, also big
Wait is that the power switch for the original PS4? the slim has an actual button, no one I know has the original so I've never seen it up close like that, what the fuck
It's only going to decline from here as good optimization is really dependent on having a static piece of hardware to optimize for. And with the extremely similar but still different hardware between Sony and MS, it's now 4 targets to hit.
This is a very big deal.
I just put tape on top of the button and use the options menu to eject discs. Now I can't fuckin stop my OG Xbone from randomly turning on.
>oh no these companies made changes to a console to save money why is this happening
Retard.
Believe it or not, I have this exact same problem, I live in Argentina and we use 220 volts, the problem stopped when I decided to connect the PS4 to my 220-110volts transformer. Pic related is the type of socket we use here.
Yeah, I ended up putting tape, not on the button, but the sensor inside. As it still kept happening.
The current Xboxes don't, they switched back to physical.
Sony always gets it right with the hardware revisions barring the PSOne
>walk past ps4 in the night
>BEEP
>have to turn the tv on and manually turn the ps4 of in its dashboard
