Japan-only game is considered a masterpiece

>japan-only game is considered a masterpiece
>then it gets an english release
>turn out it was hot garbage
What are some other examples of this?

Nobody has ever considered this a masterpiece. The world is great, but the gameplay is repetitive despite the many characters.

The entire Trails series.

I still remember the endless shilling for this game before the fantranslation came out.

Nobody was saying it was a masterpiece, we just wanted it localized as it was probably the highest production value PSP game next to Peace Walker. And as a PSP game? It's pretty damn good. As a console game? It's very flawed, but still has some merits.

The translation for the game was out before the HD remake was announced anyway, and before that people could still just play the game in Japanese. We knew what the game was.

its a great game

>considered a masterpiece
only braindead fags thought it was good

star ocean the last hope

never heard anyone say it was a masterpiece, just a great psp game that we didnt get. shame they rereleased it on consoles but not vita

The HD remaster is unironically terrible and genuinely drags the game down from great to mediocre status.
It's not amazing, but it's really great as far as PSP original goes.
The core problem is that the official translation in the remaster is absolutely horrible, the dub is the cheapest worst dub that Square Enix ever produced and the mechanics and visuals in the remaster are absolutely fucking raped.

There's a complete fantranslation for the superior PSP original.

aye, as usual the fans have to give the people what they want

I thought this was a PSP game am I losing it bros...? Do kids even know what PSP is...?

Original is for PSP and is Japan-only, has a fantranslation (different and better than the official translation in the remaster).

Remaster is for PS4, Xbone and PC and had worldwide release.

Didn't Tokyo Xanadu get rated as one of the top 3 games in Japan the year it was released?

Damn it's a bad remaster? Why is this so hard? Just fucking blow it up to 1080/4k and leave the game alone no one needs your dank particle effects.

BLOOM OUT THE ASS
Lighting is completely fucked
Everything has screen space reflections, even cotton materials.
Only main characters had models updated to FF15-tier standard while everyone else has PSP-tier models so it clashes horribly.
Only digital input even on analog controls (so 8 directions and only binary) while PSP had full analog controls for movement with its (only) stick.
Prerendered cutscenes are just upscaled 272p PSP ones.
It looks like shit.

PSP version is much better, the fantranslation is even better than the official one.

So since Yea Forums says it is hot garbage, that means it's as good as anticipated. Thanks for the recommendation, OP.

>that means it's as good as anticipated.
The reviews for it aren't good either

>trusting journalists
>ever

by that logic, God hand is one of the worst games out there

>by that logic
He's saying Yea Forums says it's bad, so that means it's good
Does that mean godhand is bad because Yea Forums says it's good?

judging it based on reviews is also retarded. Also, Yea Forums calls lots of masterpieces shit so that's to be expected

>Yea Forums calls lots of masterpieces
good thing type-0 is the farthest thing from a masterpiece

The only reason this was released was to sell you a demo. It worked.

We all knew it wasn't a good game before the western release because of the translation for the PSP game. But it did have potential. It was like FFVIII but the world was really at war. There were some really kino sequences like battle with all the frozen airships in the sky. The different play style from all the characters was unironically better than what we got in FFXV. But the character personalities and stories were all garbage, with the worst plot between those two characters that I can't remember their names but they are kind more central to the plot. Mission based story was also really stupid. Way too much grinding if you actually wanted to use more all the available characters. It's very much wasted potential.

This guy gets it

Good thing the fact you've said that means it's a good game.

>Only main characters had models updated to FF15-tier standard while everyone else has PSP-tier models so it clashes horribly.
It doesn't help that they just took the models the CG studio used with zero adjustments.

>the PSP models literally look better
holy shit how do you fuck up that badly
>bottom right
JUST

>The core problem is that the official translation in the remaster is absolutely horrible
and the fact that the entire class is devoid of character barring Rem and Machina. Ace and Queen just barely get anything.
and the fact that you have to level up 15 separate characters three at a time and keep them all within the same level region because the game splits you up constantly.
and the fact that the entire last 4 hours makes absolutely no sense even if you were paying attention and even into NG+.
and the fact that the time limit makes it so you need four or five playthroughs just to see everything with each playthrough being 50+ hours each.
and the fact that a majority of the class are unusable shitters who are slow and deal horrible damage.
and the fact that gameplay is all about killsights because attacking normally deals close to no damage while killsights bypass defense and quadruple or quintuple your damage so there's no point in doing anything but stand there unless you are well over 30 levels above an enemy or mission.
and the fact that you can only take one quest at a time and some are in the school meaning you have to waste 6 hours just to turn a quest in each time one is available at the school.

The translation is the least of its problems, literally everything about the game is flawed.

The CG studio adjusts lighting on the characters per-scene because they can, if you just throw them into something with no adjustments they'll look like absolute shit. The original models were made with PSP limitations in mind.
