The consumer doesn't benefit from them and it actively hinders them from using it in a way that they could were it not locked to an individual platform.

Imagine if there was a company, who made screws that could only be screwed or unscrewed using their patented screw driver.
They would effectively enforce a sort of psuedo-monopoly because every bit of their product is only compatible with other products they produce on a market involving a range of applicable parts.
There is a reason they don't do this and companies who manufacture tools and building material all agree on a specific standard to share the market rather than autistically force the consumer to go down "their path" for all their needs.

This was what effectively happened with the advent of home PCs, where companies could basically invest into making hardware only function with their own for maximum profit and control over the consumer.
Eventually the government stepped in and basically enforced standards on hardware which is the reason why my AMD processors works with an NVIDIA graphics card.

For whatever reason, videogame consoles are essentially excluded from this. They of course have hardware within them from other companies that obviously adhere to the standard of compatibility but the machines themselves are still treated as entities where one is allowed to be the only machine to run certain software. There is no reason for this beyond aforementioned control of the consumer, or rather they want people to justify buying their console over others in order to play certain games.
Back when computers were very specialized hardware wise for specific tasks and you couldn't just "build your gaming PC" consoles made more sense, but as of today they are simply a holdover from an earlier time, existing because of consumer nostalgia and ultra conservative japanese business practices that cling dearly to outdated business models.

I agree if those exclusive are from a third party company. Nintendo should be allowed to have their games as exclusive for their consoles, and same with Sony and Microsoft since I view those as motivation to buy their consoles. Besides that yes, competition between consoles and PC stores should mainly be between services they provide, prices of their games, ect.

Literally the only reason consoles have to exist is exclusives, and first-party development allows for games that would otherwise not be made, or would have a much lower budget, and/or would have to compromise on their vision. You're actually advocating for less variety in the industry.
