Necropolis is the only town they screwed up by mixing Inferno with it. The other towns are arguably better than their heroes 3 counterparts due to a number of improvements (e.g. bringing pixies back to nature).

Every creature of preserve is either an animal or plant (wolf, tiger, mantis, griffin, unicorn, wasport), a creature living in harmony with nature (sprite, elf, leprechaun, satyr) or an extension of nature itself (the four elementals, phoenix, faerie dragon).

What exactly is wrong with this?

Besides bringing back sprites and phoenixes from the older games, heroes 4 also made some other improvements to nature, like relocating the treasury to Order. Rampart was literally the worst possible town to have treasury, considering they are all about not being materialistic and embracing nature.

On the other hand it doesnt have turns. Turns are a huge kick into the pacing feel of the games

Your t1 sucks, everything is expensive, your t2 and your only shooter can kill your own dudes, you don't really have a unit that's the best in it's tier like with other towns, and your t7 is kinda meh

On the plus side you get demon farming and you can armageddon people easily. They're the worst town but you can still win

Their shooters are not that great. AoE is often more of a hindrance than bonus. And you rely on shooters a lot in this game. Not to mention that it's your only shooter.
Tier 4 and Tier 5 are very awkward. Hornies are ok as they are cheap but Pit Lords cost a lot and are quite bad in combat.
And your final tier unit has every single advantage it could have - except from being strong. Devils loose 1v1 to most final tier units.

It would run on any toaster, was interesting play and was peak junk high fantasy. Russians dig junk high fantasy

What 3 separate groups? Units like pixies and phoenixes were always part of nature, it's only heroes3 that inexplicably removed them.

And it's not 3 separate groups, it's one consistent theme: nature. And it is actually consistent, unlike heroes 3, where you have shit like dwarves, characterized by living underground and DISLIKING the open air. Wtf are they doing in rampart. And green/gold dragons: basically just a reskin of red/black dragons. Again, how do they fit the nature theme?

I was playing one of the HoMM3 campaigns the other day and I think the gameplay hasn't aged well. It just felt like a fucking chore to do the scenario objective while making sure to move my 8 heroes to every point where they could get EXP, Levels, or a Skill
