>look for hiring positions at game companies

Can anyone get a job in a game company?

1. download unreal engine 4, unity, blender
2. learn theory and practice, versed in the software, Google and swing skills every day
3. as you gain basic knowledge, you will understand what you want doing and get

How powerful pc do you need to run all of that?

you shouldn't care

If you're going to work alone and do t know what you're doing yet it's better to just download gamemaker and make simple 2d games, you're not going to make anything remotely playable in 3d if you're not really good and dedicated

Why not?

>Obtain an SDK
>Follow tutorials
>Practise, experiment, learn

Same way you get started in most things user.

>Can anyone get a job in a game company?

Um, Yes.
>>apply
Not that simple. You've gotta have a portfolio showing your work depending on the position.

You have to have people who you've worked that can say that your a fast and quality worker as many people will try and cheat by hiring people.

FURRY, ANIME, GORE, PORN

WON'T GET YOU HIRED.

Infact, At the studio i'm working at we've got a wall of shame it's everyone who sends in their portfolio and contains that sort of stuff.

At the end of the day, we don't look at your work as we're working.

The reception does so remember that reception is a blue board and global rules apply.

If you want to get into the industry from nothing.

A YEAR.

If you start doing commissions, build up people who you know. Goto conventions, Talk to people in social media groups that are in the industry, Talk to their friends be friendly with them.

I have almost 100 people that i don't even talk to on facebook but since everyone knows me, they'll hire me. Oh, Your jims friend..

3D Modelling everyone and their mum can do that.

2D Concept everyone and their mum can do that.

Animation everyone and their mum can do that.

Programming specialized area that nobody wants to learn. Preferred languages are C# and C++ and HLSL.

As mention above Art is easy if your doing one thing.

If you can sculpt, model, animate and concept then you already better than everyone else standing inline and in a start up enviroment are worth more in gold press latinum than a modeller that refuses to learn how to draw because "i can't draw" we fired someone straight on the spot for that.

Lead artist asked him to sketch it and he said he couldn't draw and refused to even try.

Trying is important.

Why? Because a concept artist can draw a better version on the white board or their tablet.

Post your work on polycount, artstation and other websites and you'll get work.

part 2 coming..

I just make 3d models for guns, everything from concepts, animations and then sell em.

People hire me to do that for games

Or

University projects, Game company's and whatnot just outright buy the model and it's rights.

Then i'll delete that model and start making a new version of it.

I did that recently with the P38.

Because if you're serious you should be willing to pay the cost no matter what it is

I'd be willing, but I don't have money to buy a powerful pc.

>If you want to get into the industry from nothing.
>A YEAR.
Only a year to learn coding and sculpting?

>I'd be willing, but I don't have money to buy a powerful pc.
I worked on an outdated pc till i had saved enough money to buy a new pc.

I'd render something and play games on my 360 over a day till the render was completed at midnight before finishing the project the next day.

Guess you better get good at programming then because you're not going to do much art or modeling without a workstation

probably just a joke thread but please for the love of god don't go to college and do a 'game development' course

if you want to develop games, just go do comp sci or software engineering so if things don't work out, you actually have a skill you can use to apply for other jobs

Learn how to code
interactivepython.org/runestone/static/pythonds/index.html

Or be born as creative person who pursued trades of arts (drawing, modelling, writing, making songs)bsince childhood because you legitimately liked it.

>Only a year to learn coding and sculpting?
You can learn that in 3 months.

PRACTICE EVERYDAY.

Most company's use C# making things very simple, An object is built up of functions.

Those functions have variables for what it does and can used for storing information such as a number or a string of text.

If you wanna get started then pick up unreal editor and do their tuts follow them they teach you how to do it in it's more basic form then it's just a matter of learning how to do it in code.

Otherwise the same thing but in unity!

Can't you be an creative person at an older age? What is this childhood meme? Maybe some autistic savant was serious about stuff as a child but I didn't know jackshit and just played around.

>learn to code
>python

Skills like drawing or designing structures can be learned.

Give minecraft to three kids: one will only run around and join PvP server. Other will build castles, pyramids and other stuff it was taught / seen at class / internet. And only the true creative kid will build something nobody ever seen before.

If you actually knew coding, you would know all languages look the same once you have all the abstract concept down. Doesnt matter what you start with.

>Skills like drawing or designing structures can be learned.
>Give minecraft to three kids: one will only run around and join PvP server. Other will build castles, pyramids and other stuff it was taught / seen at class / internet. And only the true creative kid will build something nobody ever seen before.
What the fuck does this have to with anything?

I've been coding for 10 years now. You don't know what you're talking about.

>Or be born as creative person who pursued trades of arts (drawing, modelling, writing, making songs)bsince childhood because you legitimately liked it.
Yeah ok fuck everything then.

>always wanted to pursue arts
>never did
th-there's still hope, r-right lads?

Bro you can still work for AAA studios even as dude without creativity. Ever played any 3d person action EA title? They are all alike. They managed to make many games without a single piece of creativity. And it shows.

Then what are you waiting for? Go make some art pleb. Pic related. This is how memes look like when creative person makes them.

>Bro you can still work for AAA studios
I don't think AAA studios hire a 30 year old amateur.

god i fucking hate redditors

>Go make some art pleb
Is it really that easy?

Can you make good games with gamemaker?

You stop playing video games first.

I learned the spacing from Yea Forums.

It's OK to hate yourself, self love is good in moderation.

you should have lurked more then

Thank you for your time user, I'm not particular interested in the vidya industry but I'm glad you are trying to help other anons.
If you have some time, can I ask you where to start for 3d modelling for FUN?
I used blender for a small project once, but it was a programming test not an artistic one, so no one cared if the final result was... questionable. Let's say i want to make a person, where do i start?
Tutorials are kinda mediocre on the web

ya. google games made with gamemaker. it's a fully featured engine that appeals to beginners

AAA studios hire anybody who is willing to work 40 hours per week + another 40 hours of unpaid overtime in the same week :-)
Also what this dude said. Steal someones art and make a portfolio from it.

>all that fucking around and requirements for making glorified children toys
>while getting a better paying job in it where you won't be treated like shit and at risk of firing once the project is done is much easier
why would anyone with coding skills even consider game dev? even pajeting front end in js is better

they usually don't, but people interested in making games learn to code

while(true){
update();
render();
} //baby's first game

Undertale and Deltarune were made in gamemaker
also Toby is like absolute garbage in coding

>mfw Asperger with ADHD with shitty trembling hands
I literally cannot take good pictures, even with a phone camera, let alone draw straight lines.
I'll try to learn how to code but that's the best I'm gonna do, I literally don't know anything about music

Is it possible to learn how to use gamemaker without any previous coding experience

i started coding in gamemaker so yes

you know what I said about Toby fox being a literal code retard?
By that I mean, when the monsters in undertale turn into dust, what actually happens is that every pixel of their sprite becomes some weird wobbly font that goes away, but that's not the best part, not even close
in the papyrus fight, if you decide to kill him, you'll find out that his body desintegrates first, he says some shit and then his head goes out too.
pay attention in the particles when his body disappears and when his head disappears
youtube.com/watch?v=bVtWXPssS54
what literally fucking happened is that toby realized the first way of desintegration was fucking stupid and he did it a completely different way instead, ON THE SAME FIGHT.

if this literal fucking retard can make one of the best games ever made with this terrible coding, then you can too.

Quit

This

Shit

Just start making a game

Where do I start after installing gamemaker

I'm a neet that hopes to reproduce one day, can this be it?

Alright, gonna pirate GM and start learning the ropes.

If you have to ask for directions and can't figure it out yourself, you are too stupid to make anything good anyway

Sorry

Follow up question, does drag and drop teach bad habits that I should avoid?

this and "muh talent" are objectively bad advices and everyone should know it.
you should always ask for help, being an egotistical narcissistic faggot that thinks he can do everything by himself will get you nowhere

>Most company's use C# making things very simple, An object is built up of functions.

This is the kind of quality that comes from India.

make a game.

Start making a small scale game, don't make that large scale RPG, that's just dumb.

Then tally your skills in the following areas:

Art
Programming
Systems Design Knowledge.

Then make a game that works well with whatever your most talented in.

Yikes, the western companies really are just garbage

Use Godot

Attached: godotchan.png (468x832, 231K)

Being a manchild is the first prerequisite.

Just like make game

I'm trying, man
I don't have the drive nor the art skills, but I'm trying to dedicate at least half an hour per day on a project
I don't have much hope, but I really need to do it because my time is running out

Attached: white_mans_burden.jpg (814x610, 191K)

This. I literally dropped out of my mother's cooch and started making video games at the age of 0.1 without anyone telling me anything about anything.

if you can't figure out how to use google then you definitely won't understand how to make a video game

>want to learn C# and C++ to make games
>need a job so learning JS and other web based shit
>too tired to learn the C languages after work and learning JS so i get further behind
god dammit bros i just wanna learn to make games

How about you get a job using C#? I don't even let people know I can do any kind of Java shit because the jobs it brings with it are all shitty web projects.

learn c# and go full stack

God I hate JS. I hate C++ too.
All I wanna do is dick around with C, C# and/or SQL but everybody needs 5 years experience if you want to have the honor of licking the floor of a server room, let alone touch a computer.

the only thing near me is web dev jobs, plus for actual programming i'd imagine getting a non web dev job is harder without a degree
well, okie then

you really should be learning .net core if you're looking for full stack jobs, also don't forget to learn sql

Get woke
