This theory was always retarded. Most of the evidence in favor of it is circumstantial, Darunia and Impa going to fight the boss and then not appearing. Just because we don't see a character after a certain point in the game doesn't mean they died. Zelda is a Sage but is definitely not dead at any point during the game. Immediately before they zap Nabooru, Koume and Kotake claim they want to brainwash her again. Killing her is inconsistent with their stated intention, so they were probably just teleporting her somewhere. If these two can become Sages without having to die, why should the others be dead? At the end of the game the five Sages Link awakened are seen outside the Sacred Realm in Hyrule. They look just like they did before they became Sages, so there's no reason to believe they're dead.
Evidence from other games in the series also doesn't support it. Another group of Seven Sages is in ALBW, but they're able to use their powers to help Link without dying. The ALTTP backstory tells how the Knights of Hyrule defended the Sages from evil forces. If people had to die to become Sages, the Knights wouldn't have bothered protecting the Sages because they either needed to die to use their powers or were already dead. WW, the narrative sequel to OoT, shows that a dead person can't serve as a Sage. Fado and Laruto were killed by Ganon, and they need Link to awaken their successors who will then exercise their sagely power. These games establish that people don't have to die or can't die in order to become Sages. There's no reason for OoT to be an exception to these rules.

There's just... so much evidence of the sages being dead WITHIN OoT, and yet you choose to ignore it all and to point at OTHER games. Stop thinking about other games.

In LttP there's two villagers in the beginning of Kakariko who are afraid of Link, and will run in their houses and call the guards on you if they spot you. I made the brown haired one my target. I would go in her house and pretend to violate her things when she wasn't looking. She would lock her door behind her if she spotted you, and I would imagine breaking down and having my way with her in every imaginable way before disposing her corpse down the local well (the heart piece at the bottom of the well represented my love and adoration for her). Later in the game she disappears but I know exactly what happened to her.
