Piracy - What is it and why is it ethical

Why don't you pirate all of your games, user? Don't you like free stuff?

fuck off, frog

I only emulate games if I can't find them for sale anywhere. The logic I use is this: what company is losing money from me emulating Lunar or Skies of Arcadia? Wouldn't they put them on sale if they wanted some cash?

I like free stuff but I also like spending money. Help.

torrent and if you like it buy it. done

You should think that the more money you spend on bullshit, the longer it will take you to retire.

So you generally purchase things on a moral principle? Aren't you ever tempted to just torrent something recent at least once? Nobody's inclined to shell out 60 bucks all the time, eh?

I've been tempted. However, I have an american-tier ISP, so download speeds are terrible. So it's a deterrent. Assuming that wasn't true, though, I'd generally just buy the game on steam and try it out. If I don't like it, I refund it. I only do it once in a while so steam doesn't throw a hissy fit.

>nobody's inclined to shell out 60 bucks
I've never paid 60 bucks for a game in like 10-15 years. I avoid any game with that price tag.

Spend your money on things that can't be pirated. Easy.

The Epic Exclusives plus the fact that I'm just beginning a new life gonna make me ahoy like crazy. Already ahoyed more in 1 week than I did in 7 years

60 bucks is to much for something that isnt complete. If its worth 60 dollars i buy it.

Were games always this expensive, and for this low amount of content, btw? I've only gotten back into gaming approx. 3-4 years ago (stopped when the ps2 was still around), and these prices are unimaginable, DLC aside.

I can't imagine not ahoying.

Games were 60 dollars for quite a long time, but that was because the hardware was new and hard to work with. In this modern age, we can make a game a thousand times more immersive and impressive than Super Mario, and have it barely cost more than 10 bucks. The extra cost is just developer greed.

I really only pirate stuff if it either makes the experience more enjoyable or I don't have the means to play it.

For example, Mario Kart Wii's controls suck ass, so I emulate it.

Got any more of those images? That's some gold right there.

Get another job, leave your job, or negotiate a pay rise, not "help yourself."

Yeah I'll tell my boss to give me 5 bux more for Red Dead, or leave this one and spend numerous weeks w/o cash.

daily reminder that the only "people" who care about piracy are r/gamers

I buy very few games since there are only a few games I enjoy playing and I've already bought them

Because I like collecting achievements. No bully please.

I pirate pretty much anything I can, unless it's a very good multiplayer/coop game and several of my friends are also getting it.

I've never heard that before. You didn't win very many school competitions, huh?

Piracy is raiding seabound vessels and stealing goods and merchandise to sell back or hold ransom.
Copyright infringement is illegally downloading or copying and distributing copyright protected materials such as movies, books, video games, music, fonts, and other forms of protected software or intellectual property.

Video games should provide their source code.

Every single one that allows the players to mod them to the extreme has been a huge success.

how do you know it will not work if you never try it?

better yet you should tell your boss you want him to start buying you video games as part of a company initiative to invest into the happiness of their workers. i'm sure he would love to hear about it.

You’re the one using terminology that doesn’t accurately describe the issue. No physical goods are being exchanged so even if you’re torrenting on a boat it’s not piracy.

Im too dumb

r u serious?

Yes, thank you user! I'll also be sure to tell him it was your idea, and that I got inspiration from an anonymous person on an internet forum that posts porn.

I pirate EVERYTHING no fucking exclusions. fuck those greedy devs and their retarded pre order bonus/dlc practices

Google this, first link u see download it. Then after it runs, you'll see a searchbar at the top. Look up whatever you want, and pirate away, me boy.

If there's a better means I'd like to see it. But this suffices well enough for now.

I did not.

literally any open source torrent client

qbittorrent

That's okay.

You play anything good which meets both those criteria? Asking for a friend.
