Just accept that fan requested characters aren't what DLC is for. DLC is to make money, to convince people who otherwise might not buy smash to buy the game. Characters like K Rool got in because they were in the base game. People were going to buy smash ultimate regardless just by virtue of it being a new smash game, the rest is just fan service. You may say "but mewtwo was hype in smash 4!" Yeah he was, as a free bonus. Even returning characters like Roy and Lucas came packaged with more popular third party characters. For example, if you asked a random person who doesn't play many video games what banjo kazooie is, they would probably have no idea. Now if you do the same thing with minecraft or dragon quest (in Japan), they would at the very least know of the game itself. These are the people Nintendo is trying to convince to buy the game, not people who already own the switch and smash ultimate who want their favorite character in. It's rare, but if Nintendo gets a PS4 owner interested in smash because they added Joker, that's a potential profit of roughly $375 (switch, smash, character pack), not even including possible ports or already existing Nintendo games featuring that character or franchise. Now, imagine if Banjo got in, how would that benefit Nintendo? Not many people are familiar with the character, so the people that want him in smash that badly likely already own the game. Nintendo could get $6.00 for the character pack and that's it. There aren't any banjo games currently out on the Switch so that would be unlikely to net more sales.

What if they release Rare Replay or at the very least, the XBLA Kazooie/Tooie ports on Switch alongside Banjo in Smash?
Jason Gray
At least Krool is from a lively series and they emphasized on the fact that he's DK's main rival
Brody Sanders
people hated jesus because he told the truth
Aaron Morgan
>TLDR: DLC is a popularity contest for money. Please explain why Corrin got in then, as nobody other than Nintendo wanted them in.
Austin Johnson
You literally just proved his point
corrin was added to sell Fire Emblem Fates
Jack Sanchez
Possible, and I would like that, but at the same time, Minecraft is the best selling individual game in the world, it already has a far bigger fanbase. Besides, with Nintendo and Microsoft being all buddy buddy lately, I doubt they wouldn't want to promote the character of their biggest IP because they know it would benefit them both.
Brandon Gray
Incredible only 4 posts for people to whine about FE
Christopher Ward
I think this DLC batch will focus on "modern" popular picks mostly, like Steve or Leon from RE Maybe an inhouse character like Dee or Dixie too
Caleb Russell
The Plant made it in stfu you dont know shit.
Brayden Martin
But why does Minecraft need even more promotion like that? At least Persona is from a totally different audience than the Nintendo crowd
Gabriel Flores
I'm not sure minecraft needs more promotion, but there is definitely a huge audience of minecraft kids that would buy him in smash. Since Nintendo gets money from both series anyway I doubt they care that much. It's as close to an "in house" character we're going to get, I think.
Thomas Russell
> Why would a huge franchise need more promotion like that Retard, it's the same reason why Mario and Pokemon keeps getting characters, there is no limit for it.

>Just accept that fan requested characters aren't what DLC is for. DLC is to make money, to convince people who otherwise might not buy smash to buy the game. i don't think banjo's happening either but >corrin, lucas, and roy
Daniel Hill
his point was that dlc is made to sell smash corrin wasn't made to sell smash and sure as hell ain't part of some popularity contest
This kind of brigading is exactly what I'm trying to prevent so please take this autism somewhere else.

>if you asked a random person who doesn't play many video games what banjo kazooie is, they would probably have no idea How do you know that B-K won't sell well if brought back? You've got a big fan base supporting Banjo that can easily do free marketing for Nintendo if they are brought into smash. Before the buyout, the series was well integrated in commercials, merch, and promotional material. The buyout essentially ruined their future because Microsoft handled the property horribly.
>Just accept that fan requested characters aren't what DLC is for. DLC is to make money, to convince people who otherwise might not buy smash to buy the game. I don't think you really know what DLC is for. DLC is meant to be an optional supplement for the base game for those that have it already and want more. You already mentioned that it's rare for DLC to sell the game, system, and DLC itself. Say the Persona situation happens 2-3 times. This still would garner the same result with 200 switch owners buying the pass because Banjo is in it.
K.Rool, Ridley, and the Belmosts are still a valid point in favor for Banjo because these characters were not in the spotlight for a long time and were heavily fan requested, K.Rool especially. If your logic was applied to smash, they would've put Steve, and some douche from Fortnite since they were popular at the time. Banjo is currently one of, if not THE biggest fan character in the speculation scene. I bought Smash because of K.Rool, if Nintendo was not listening to fan demand then they wouldn't get a sale from me. Considering the massive positive reaction to Krool, Simon and Ridley, Nintendo know the power of appeasing the fans that currently own their game.
Listen I like Banjo but you pretty much explained in your own post why he isn't likely. His future was ruined by Microsoft. Sure, he has a devoted fanbase but that's a minority compared to the fanbase of minecraft. You also mentioned that a lot of people are going to buy the fighter pass because banjo would be in it. Is that assuming those same people wouldn't buy the fighter pass because banjo isn't in it and characters like joker and steve are? I really believe it all comes to money, especially with Nintendo making the picks this time.
Jacob White
There was nothing preventing Steve from being in Smash 4. But he wasn't, because that's a stupid idea and everyone at Mojang and Microsoft who have been asked about it agree. youtube.com/watch?v=GejiOQQazJo
>audience of minecraft kids that would buy him in smash Kids don't have credit cards.
Reminder that she said it was her opinion and that she doesn't know anything about the DLC. She doesn't even deny the possibility of Minecraft in your post, rather she'd prefer the skeleton to be in.
Plus it would be up to Microsoft since they own the IP.
