The graphics look like shit, character customization is shit, survival mechanics are shit, and the multiplayer is shit.
Why the fuck are people raving about this game? Am I missing something?

Most of what you've read is hyperbole by people that havent even played the game themselves. The Combat is nowhere near as bad as everyone seems to think it is.

also I hate that I can't tell how powerful enemies are. I'm in the corrupted tombs or whatever and some skelly miners came at me and I was like oh fuck I didn't coated my weapon but 3 arrows took them out and I was like well that was disappointing glad I didn't waste one of my 12 bottles of spirit varnish

It's not a very good game but people are starved for games that don't handhold them so they take it.

its a pretty unique game, and has a steeper learning curve than many games(which isnt saying much, but still). especially the magic system is very different from most games, and the combat isnt very polished, but its a good feeling from getting wrecked to being able to take on bigger mobs mostly from skill alone, though equipment helps obviously. i havnt tried co op, it seems like it would be fun if you had a friend that was willing to get over the learning curve, though i expect my friends to drop it after five minutes if i convince them to play with me
