I was anticipating Wakfu's release since fucking 2005. 5 years later and two broken unplayable """betas""" later, it was clear they had no idea what they were fucking doing with the game and it was just a bunch of random ideas thrown together that would never fucking work. Why they continued to force this game to come out is beyond me, but when it came out and turned out to be Dofus 0.5, it's no wonder people deserted instantly and went back to the game that has twenty times as much content and more thought put into its class balance.

Overall I feel bad for people that got excited for the game late into it's dev cycle and had no idea about the troubled history of the past betas, they'd have probably not been surprised about what happened next if they did.

Then they became damage-based with a fairly low per-turn buff cap, a small amount of permanent HP loss, and the buffs only lasted severals turns. Don't waste your time or life with Wakfu. tl;dr:
The animation
-First season is pretty fucking good, kino
-Second season was like a huge filler, had one or 2 episodes of plot, filler, filler filler. Better animation than season one. Ending was quite nice, tough. Had an awesome final battle.
-Third season, you NEED to watch 3 ovas that happen after season 2 to understand what the fuck is going on, or else you will see 2 characters pairing up suddenly with no explanation. The story was rushed as fuck, apparently it had 24 episodes, but they suddenly had to cut everything to make 12. Story was overblown as fuck, characters are become fucking gods.

The game:
-I remember being a beta tester around 2006 or 2008, no fucking shit, this game had MANY betas/soft launches over the years, it went through a billion of changes, character classes, skill systems were reworked a thousand of times. The art was pretty fucking cool and had an interesting world, but it NEVER managed to be a good game because ankama fucked up everything. I always tried to give it a chance once one or two years, but it was never good. They had multiple plans for an entire series of games, even a FUCKING FPS.

But anyone who thinks 2 was more filler than 1 is dumb.

the picture here is good, but I personally would watch the Dofus Special before the OVA's. here's my recommended order and also an explanation of each thing to watch and its place chronologically in the universe.

First off, the two MMO games Ankama made are "Dofus" and "Wakfu". Dofus was the first game and Wakfu was the second. In-universe, Wakfu takes place like 800 years after the events of Dofus.

>Wakfu Season 1
First animation project from Ankama*. 26 episodes, each one around 23 minutes. This takes place during the Wakfu era and was made to help market the game.
>Nox Special
This gives a backstory to the main villain in S1, and is best viewed after finishing the first season. It's just a short single episode.
>Wakfu Season 2
Continuation from Season 1, same length and number of episodes.

>Dofus: Treasures of Kerub
This takes place during the Dofus era, so again like 800 years before the two Wakfu seasons. It's a much "comfier" show, episodes are only around 10 minutes long and are about Kerubim telling adventure stories to his adopted grandson Joris. Dofus is important though because the characters in it show up in Wakfu.

>Dofus: Book I, Julith
This takes place 3 years after the events of Dofus: Treasures of Kerub. It's a feature-length movie with outstanding quality and helps explain the backstory of Joris.

>Ogrest Special
A single episode that shows the origin of Ogrest. Throughout S1 and S2 of Wakfu you'll repeatedly hear references to Ogrest and how he destroyed much of the planet. This special is good to watch prior to the OVA's since they are about Ogrest.

>Wakfu OVA's
3 episodes, each around 45 minutes long. Takes place after the events of Wakfu Season 2. The OVA's are about trying to stop Ogrest from destroying more of the world.

>Wakfu Season 3
Takes place several years after the OVA's. 13 episodes.

*Note that, technically, the first animation project was the Goultard special. This was just a pilot episode, a "proof of concept" that Ankama made and presented to their producer to show how their universe would work in animation form, and to show that they have the capability to make a full show. I don't think the Goultard special is canon, although the main character does exists in the rest of the series. It's also very different from the rest of their projects, with a lot of blood and other gruesome scenes.

The Goultard special doesn't tie into anything and like I said I don't think it's even canon, so viewing is entirely optional. If you're bored and just want to see it for fun, then go ahead and watch it but it doesn't relate to anything else in the series.

Most people who shit on s3 do so because they don't like Iop wanking so they get mad that the show isn't about comfy adventures and turns more into a battle show.
The twists are interesting and re-contextualize the series, but in a good way.
The ending in itself is controversial.
If you enjoyed s1 and s2, s3 is right up your alley. Even if you end up disliking things about it, it has plenty of quality on other aspects.
This isn't some great betrayal, more like the series showing some weakness after being so excellent.
