They did remake the first, though. Problem is that 1's new story would completely change how 2 would have to be done, since Qwark isn't really in that kind of position and Nefarious is now cemented as the series villain. Also the protopet is stupid and they'd have to address Angela cross being a Lombax this time

It became soulless once it hit the PS3. They gave up on the comedy style they had going on for it to focus on Pixar wannabee storylines that contradicted the PS2 games.
Even the designs are as family friendly as they get nowadays.
The gameplay has always been mediocre, what really tied it together was the tone.

In that case I would say they're better off making a new game that continues the story on from what they were telling before the movie game came out, personally.

Reminder that the remake is fucking awful, corporate-committee tripe. R&C are literal doll-tier soulless mascots devoid of all edge or conflict that existed in the original. Many of the in-game cutscenes animate like a PS1 indie title. They absolutely ruined the franchise with that game and I have zero (0) faith that they can create a good R&C game again.
