But seriously, I played a Paladin, Mage and Rogue to 60 and I had the most fun with Mage by far. Rogue wouldn't be that far behind if I had as good gear as I had on my Mage (cleared BWL regularly before guild fell apart). Stealth really is a wonderful ability if you have that explorer/scavenger/raider itch but it's hard to beat the usefulness of Mages and their capabilities.

Orcs can't be mages. Undead will be significantly better while solo, leveling, and in pvp. Troll will be slightly better in raids, assuming the extra haste won't cause you to pull threat.
Go Undead unless you really like trolls, imo. If you're pushing progression, threat will be a problem, if you're not, the damage won't make a difference. Plus, situational wotf and shadow resist usefulness in pve.

Hunter is the hardest class to play effectively in vanilla.
They can be somewhat efficient by just standing and auto shotting but that won't get you far.
A good hunter is expected to kite, tranquilize on demand, micro pet, control aggro of both hunter and pet, time and tempo auto shot on every single cooldown to not waste time nor other cooldowns, feign death while recalling pet to get out of combat and swap trinkets and potentially nightfalling, as their abilities allows them to spam melees and get easy procs making them one of the best nightfall users.
All this plus the usual raid mechanics and rotations, where rotations are much more nuanced due to the auto shot tempo you need to maintain.

I was a hunter main on Northdale and yeah hunter is the most complicated class (arguably Feral but lmao feral) but that isn't really saying much. Hunters entire rotation is 2 buttons with the only thing separating them from other ranged DPS is that they can't clip auto attacks.
Meanwhile in a casual game like FFXIV you have Summoners requiring 40+ keybinds and 4x the APM of even the most complicated classes in Classic. The world has changed. No one is going to be impressed by Classic achievements when they all amount to pressing 2 buttons against a boss that doesn't do anything and the only reason you succeeded was because you farmed Mara for 20 hours before raid.

Lots of totems an options. Enhance can one shot people even with blues but requires absurd luck. Elemental does big dick damage but is a nightmare on the mana front. Healing is strong and you have good buffs.

I played ADruid Tank in 5 mans (swipe of based AoE threat) and healer in raids on private, leveled a Paladin to 60 on private and did nothing, leveled to 60 as HPriest on Private but did mostly nothing, and played a HHuntard in legit Vanilla up to partial clearing Naxx / C'Thun before trading my account to get a ARouge in Vanilla of semi-equivalent progress.

And nobody knows just how effective or broken +hit will be since it's been changed about a million times.

you have to play fucking perfect to kill a mage or lock that actually know how to play
you also need to be sub while raids require combat or seal fate, have fun spending 50g on respecs all the time
and these retarded 6k hp sl locks don't even have to be good at the game
their effective hp can go well above 10k even
while just one full agony+corruption will cost you 4k or more hp, a rogue in HWL gear has around 5k hp

If Vanilla's original launch schedule is anything to go by it could be 4-6 months. Go for a PVP server. Also tauren vs orc depends on the class. Personally I'd go Shaman Tauren.
