The original MGS3 was neither shitty nor unfinished. Subsistence was a like a special edition and it came with an awesome online component as other anons said, as well as the two original Metal Gear games for the MSX.

It was just a special edition, but you got two new (old) games with it that you probably didn't play before, or three new games if you count the online component as its own game.

I think it was like $30. Back then, $50 was the norm for new games, not $60 like it is now. $30 out of $50 isn't that much I guess but still not full price.

the top down camera was designed for the minimap and visual cones which were absent in mgs3 and replaced with the camo system. in result the gameplay in mgs3 was a horrible mix of first person spamming to scout for people and going through menus to change your camo. the third person camera fixed the problem of having to scout with first person.
the game wasnt unfinished true but some of the game play elements clearly didnt go through extensive playtesting.

Maybe I'm an exception, but I'm 20 and I have much more nostalgia for generation 6 than 7. The PS2 in particular will always be my favorite game console.

There is no golden age of vidya, every single generation has had its problems/limitations. Everyone just hates this generation because it’s become solely based on profit to the point that devs will literally release a franchise ending game just because they know people will buy it for the name.

It was the end of the Golden Era. Golden Era being from the snes to the ps3. As soon as online became the focus instead of a side-thought, the Age was over. Prior to this gen, the focus of most games was the game itself, not the community, not the esports viewers, not the reaction videos, not the tweets. You can see all that shit start to creep in during the end of last gen, but they weren't the main things.

Secondly, it was the last gen where you could start a brand new IP and see an entire trilogy released in the same gen. Last gen to have a healthy balance of single and multiplayer. Last gen to have good sports games across almost every genres/sport. Top tier boxing games, skateboard games, snowboarding, two types of mma games, baseball games for everyone, arcade sports games and more.

Definitely the last of the golden era. Only downside is because it was the end it, Japanese devs started to falter.

Like GTA V, RDR 2, Breath of the Wild (I've not played it but I know it was critically acclaimed), Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Super Mario Odyssey, Metal Gear Solid V, God of War (2018), Resident Evil 2 (2019).

Some of those are single-player only, but there is also a plethora of well-rated multiplayer games you can play these days too. Shooters like PUBG, Destiny 2, The Division, Black Ops 4, Apex Legends, Battlefield V. Or sports games like FIFA 19, NBA 2K19, etc. Or popular online racing games like Gran Turismo Sport, Forza 7, Forza Horizon 4, iRacing, Assetto Corsa, rFactor 2, F1 2019, Project Cars 2, etc.

New games are perceived as shit because us boomers are no longer the target audience and all the genres and themes we wanted and bought no longer sell. Fixed camera Resi, WW2 singleplayer shooters, shmups, arena shooters, nobody buys these games anymore because younger gamers no longer want that shit.

Our time is over, we still got our games and indie titles catering to our needs, but the industry has a new majority to please and it isn't us.

My first home console was an N64, then I got an Xbox in 2002 (when it released in Europe; it was 2001 in North America). So I was 11 at that time. And I didn't actually get an Xbox 360 until I had a salaried job in 2015, partly because during my teens I was more interested in drinking and drugs. I looked it up and the data I could find shows that 47.8% of American 12th grade pupils in 2018 had used an illicit drug in their lifetimes, so it's a little less than half, but barely. I'd more-so say 4th gen was the golden age, while 6th gen was the second renaissance. In both eras third parties pretty much perfected their craft and made some very polished games. It's not to say 3rd and 5th weren't good, but they were less refined. Those were the awkward teen years of 2D and 3D.
