Drop DoD2 to the end and I'll agree.
It's a mess of a masterpiece that enjoys making you suffer through it until you start to give in and enjoy the monotonous and repetitive gameplay, destructive OST and insane plot.
It's easily the worst but I still recommend it to people because I think it should be experienced.

Automata is his best executed and does a better job at fusing both story and gameplay plus the routes are much more unique than Nier's

I loved all of them besides drakengard 2.

But for me Nier gestalt/replicant is above just because I'm such a sucker for melancholia/depressing themes and that game just NAILED it.
I've literally never played any other game that just expressed and represented these concepts so well. The whole thing felt like just one big allegory for bleak suffering and desperate attempts to cling on things that are dead or already gone.

It hit me in the most personal way out of any other Taro game for sure.

I'm playing Drakengard 3 right now and I'm wondering how on Earth this series got up to 3 when the combat is this primitive. Like up to this point this is the best of the 3 games in combat prowess and I'm stunned, were the 1st and 2nd games even worse than Dynasty Warriors?

If you're just coming from the Nier games (rather than say Drakengard 3) then unless you're an actual masochist I would highly recommend NOT playing Drakengard 1. The vast majority of the gameplay is absolutely awful and there is a LOT of grinding.

There are some pretty good summaries out there that get the feel of the insanity across decently enough. lparchive.org/Drakengard/ is an alright one (just have the OST playing while you read) but what I remember being good was a video that I can't find. It was in two parts (about an hour each) where one guy was explaining the entire game to his friend with gameplay clips & cutscenes throughout the whole thing.

But I suppose there's no harm in downloading it & giving it a whirl to see if you can handle the monotony

Does anyone else think that the whole timeline is cyclical, and we'll eventually have sometime to do with that city that appears at the beginning of drakengard lore that introduces magic to the world?

Also does anyone else think it's rad that the evil flower eventually indirectly succeeds in its goal of wiping out all of humanity, albeit it in another world (ours)?

I wouldn't listen to the people who say the gameplay is shit. Try it for yourself. I only played it for the first time last year and the actual gameplay was fun enough for me. Dragon combat sections were actually good too, despite me usually hating that kind of shit.

The rare times when you actually get to use the dragon during ground missions are pretty good. Ground combat with Caim was only so bad because of just how much of it you had to do

Caim and his dragon waifu arguably have the better boss fights in the game. Plus, if you count this as a positive, Legna was a treat in the game and honestly wasn't too bad as the final boss.

It's the true video game experience of a descent into madness. A lot of it has to do with the music, which is perfect in its role but nuts because it's all tension and no release. I was just watching some cutscenes a few hours ago after not playing it in years and it's just as intense and emotionally draining to watch some of the stuff from later in the game as it is to play it. By the time I got ending B I wanted to stab myself in the head because it felt like the game had simply ruined me through and through. Above all, it's an experience like no other.

All that changes is the final scene plus a few minor cutscenes are extended. So early on you learn of the first time Eris got her period, among other things. But if you're in chapter 8 as that screenshot says then you've still got a third of the game to go.
Ending B is exactly the same up until the Seed, where Manah is consumed by its power and turns into a rehash of Drakengard 1 Ending A boss Manah. You kill her and Nowe wages war on the Watchers with Eris and an army of dragons.
Ending C is the same as B except this time Manah controls the Seed's power so you instead fight Legna in the exact same fight as in Ending A. The world is at peace, Eris turns into a spinster or something and Nowe and Manah run off to explore the world together and live happily ever after.
