I'll let you in on a secret: The dev has to make concessions to the publisher in order to get certain things they way. A new IP and no marketing budget has all the more reason to have an upgrade edition because new IPs with low marketing budgets need that extra revenue stream. How do you not see this? Either be against the concept entirely or not.
