I've only really played UNI but this game looks very fun. Excited to give it a shot, especially since I decided to enter it at EVO.

I really hope the music we're hearing is legit BGM, this will probably be one of the few game soundtracks i buy

EVO might end up being really fun, cause everyone seems to be entering it as a side game. So there will be a lot of crossover and a lot of blow ups. JWong even seems to be grinding in 5S. Helps that the series is pretty easy to pick up, but so far even low level matches are pretty fun to see. It has that divekick quality but with more going on.

I love seeing newbies exposed to Samsho damage for the first time. Especially when in a clip like this the damage isn't even all that remarkable so I don't even notice what exactly they're freaking out about until later, that makes it funnier somehow.

yeah that's been confirmed by SNK. Which I'm actually glad about for a couple of reasons. First, there's so many good/great fighters out right now it's hard to keep up. Second, It'll give SNK a chance to fix the no doubt shitty net code they're going to drop it with and finally it will give me a good idea of whether or not the game will have a decent multi playerbase after the initial hype dies down.

DESU I'm not totally sure why everyone hates frog so much considering it's about as slow as a lot of ABs and even more punishable on block, but I guess having to live in constant fear of a low that does fixed damage and gives hard knockdown is annoying to play against.

It fits his playstyle better than his hair grabs though, since it plays better at his effective range.

Also, I doubt we're getting new moves. Don't think any of the characters shown so far have had anything.

That's one of the only things I'm concerned about. The trailer music is better than the in-game stuff so far, besides Jubei's remix. They should at least put this and the PAX East trailer music in the game. Not even for a stage, could be pre-story, as the narrator talks.

Another problem is how easy it is to pull of the "red background" moves. It's left trigger, then left trigger again for 50-60% damage. I don't think people are gonna like how easy that is. Samurai's Shodown's simplistic, but strategic gameplay is best when balanced against more complex 'super' moves imo.

Good to see finer details kept in the game, though, like Ukyo tossing up an apple.

Hasn't rage explosion and issen always just been multiple button presses? ABC for both I think. It helps that supers aren't invincible here, and losing your meter means any smart player will only use it in the last round.

That super move is also super easy to block, can’t be combod into as far as I can tell, can only be used during rage explosion, and as soon as they do it they lose their super meter for the rest of the match. It’s not really that OP

It can be done off a throw, but comboing any super reduces it to like 15-20% at most. So still useful if you get a throw but you'd only spend it you were going to win the round

So I just played 4 and 5SP recently after a long time and my god...they are such fucking shitty games.
The back attack move in 4 is slow as molasses lmao.

The arranged version is the one that sucks. Not only are the violins out of place with the theme of the game it's completely unfitting to the atmosphere of the game and very unfitting to Basara's character as well as what is going in the background.

I've always hated the various arranged versions of the soundtracks not just 3's. I hate 1's and 2's arranged soundtracks as well, they're just too different from the original and don't fit with the atmosphere of the game.

As I said above, Basara's theme especially was one that always stood out like a sore thumb to me with those violins.

I really also hate the notion that just because they're CD quality that automatically makes the arranged versions better. It doesn't.

Would much prefer Hiko Seijuro, but then he'd actually have to be able to die which just isn't possible.

They're not even that high quality, it's just good synths versus console samples, but it's still synths. SOME AST tracks are better (Shiki's Darkness Black from 64 is a notable mention). Most are a wash.

SS3 was a buggy mess, had poor balance and easy infinite. Lacked a few fan favourites like Charlotte and Jubei. Also had less characters than SS2 cause the game was rushed. A lot of the stages completely obscure your view of the characters. You're the guy who goes into Tekken threads and declares that Tekken 4 was the best ever.

If you get caught in an infinite in 3 you're really just bad at the game and need to git gud.
With Haohmaru you don't need to pull his infinite at all since you can destroy anybody in 2-3 hits if you're playing against shitty ass players.

Shizumaru being broken and Gaira's grabs having ridiculous priority are valid complaints against the game but infinites? Not really.

Even SS2 had to cut out some characters to introduce some new ones because the tech limited them back then.

But by that time Playmore had taken over and those games were produced by Yuki Enterprise(now known as Examu who are famous for weebshit fighters like the Arcana Hearts series) so those games looked and played like shit.

If you're thinking of side content it will be jampacked with a bunch of stuff. They did very well on that regard with SNK's 40th anniversary collection. At the PAX panel it was mentioned they had a bunch of stuff they could sift through that they could choose from. As for online who knows, I hope they worked with the people who did it for 97 Global match. The online apparently turned out pretty good for that, giving you the option for rollback or delay based as well as allowing you to mess with other stuff. Shame, pwople always clamor for good online and the time it happens no one gave a fuck about it.

Stop pushing this meme, the chinese did buy them out and have hoppes for what they want to achieve as well probably barking some orders here and there, but SNK is where they are thanks to their mobile games and ports. They've had no support from the chinese since then and they were already considering chopping off the pachi branch before the buy out. A change in pachi laws had more of an effect than the chinese ever did as it would have forced them to modify every machine out there. They already could not afford that because they were bleeding money at the time. Their financial records are out there and demonstrate the stuff about the bleeding money, and the huge help that the mobile sruff brought. Videos have also been made about the changing pachi laws around 2014/15. The chinese barely did jack shit aside from making SNK a subsidiary and what comes with it.

I'm not a big fan of all the spotlight SS2 and 5S get compared to some other SS games, they're some of the best but you hear a lot of retarded shit like "SS4 is nothing but combos" from some of it's players which isn't true. SS6 had bad balance, felt derivative and as you said the graphics were unappealing but it's got that fun factor due to just how much shit was in the game and it's faster pacing.

Now that the pachislot division is ded, bringing older IPs back is more likely, just say goodbye for the Another World team in KoF, hopefully they can add the SamSho and WH teams they wanted in the first games

To do the back-attack you need to be close to the opponent.

And then you can do the same shit and go nowhere for long periods of time, you see that's the issue, it's got no actual counter and just leads to using it without thinking because if your opponent attacks you can start a back hit combo (a lot of which are infinites/ToDs) and if he also dodges because he didn't attack then you're pretty much safe as long as you waited to see if he was attacking or not while you were evading. And the normal dodge also comes with it's own bag of issues since you can spam it and due to it's barely existing vulnerability period then you have a lot to win and very little to lose.

I know how to use them, otherwise I wouldn't say they were super easy to abuse. You can convince yourself all you want that I'm the issue here and not the mechanic but 3 is filled with broken tech that doesn't even require you to be terribly skilled at the game. If anything SS3 is very casual friendly because you have a dodge that makes approaching your opponent way easier than in the other SS3 and easy infinites for a lot of characters. It's like with kof 97, so broken even casuals can win since doing infinites is no big deal and you don't need to actually learn how to approach each character.

SS5 and 2 have actually more dynamic movement since you have more options to evade but you actually get punished for going unga with them. And both players being able to do it by no means make it fair, since some characters don't get as much benefit from evading and punishing. Some will get infinites while others only a short combo. So yeah this only makes the game even more broken.
Call me a casual all you want, but watch at any high level tournament of SS3 and you will see infinites often.

Fierce slashes are too slow to hit a dodge for most of the cast. You can't just press the button after he dodges, your character has to turn around which won't leave enough time for most if not all characters to hit him in time or will miss since C slashes are cursed in that game. Depending on the distance close bs might not come out and the far version leads to a mediocre reward for something that can ruin your day easily.
