No consolewar bullshit, Nintenbroski, tell me, is the game worth it? I've heard it namedropped quite a few time.

I loved it, it has quite a peculiar structure that gives you a ton of freedom.
As in gameplay or storywise or exploration?
its RPGMAKER trife but with le pretty graffix which are just rpgmaker assets in 2.5d with particle effects
It does a good job of being a throwback to SNES JRPGs while still keeping its own take via the combat system which is similar to Bravely Default if you've ever played that.
Story-wise you're gonna be getting 8 seperate stories with small interaction at heart-to-heart interactions with your party and many of them will not be about defeating the big bad. That comes at the end of the game.
Exploration-wise there are alot of sights to explore and while the dungeons can be same-y (at least the caves) the outside environment maps have lots of detail that make them pop thanks to the modern visual effects applied onto the sprite based objects in the environment.
It can be hit or miss for some but for me it did alot of things right and can be quite enjoyable for those looking for a modern classic in the truest sense of the word.
Also the OST is probably the best RPG OST of 2018.
I'll get it for 10 bucks
Its really not very good
It's a mobile game, they should just release it on mobile.
Honestly if you ignore the graphics, the game is fucking boring, like going back for other characters boring fucking stories isn't all that fun.
Its not bad but not the pinapple of gaming.
The music is pretty good and the combat system is pretty solid for an Turn based game.
There are some good challanges in the game and looks pretty amazing.
I played around 68 hours without grinding to beat the final optional boss
It's a nice JRPG that does what it sets to do well, the only thing I didn't like was the fact it gets kinda repetitive when you have to finish all the heroes' stories.
That being said: if you don't like classic/snes era jrpgs you won't like this one either.
+fun combat
+nice graphics
+good music
-barely any character interaction
-job system is bland compared to BD
-all the chapters are very formulaic
7/10
I enjoyed it.
Okay, thank y'all for your input.
Gameplay: combat is good, can mix and match, but there are really only a few optimal choices if you want to have a chance at taking on some of the late game bosses
story: despite all the hype, it was minimal. Hardly any interaction between party members, and lots of dialogue is missable
soundtrack: lowkey best ost from a game last year
Overall, i gave it a 8/10. It was fun, but not as good as it was hyped out to be
It's a good callback to the old JRPG style. If you enjoy that sort of game, you'll find enjoyment in octopath.
I am convinced nobody would've cared for this game if it was multiplat from the start.
No,superior alternatives already exist

I've only just started doing everyones 2nd chapter and does the boss tactic at some point become more than 1 or 2 people BP hoard while the other 2-3 break the defense?
while the "octopath" thing is cool in theory, in reality you end up doing bits of 8 different stories with little to no crossover. the battle system is interesting but it gets boring after a while, and the generic formulaic individual stories arent enough to keep you engaged. i liked the graphics and the soundtrack is fantastic, can still hear some of the songs and I only played it for 20 hours last year
it looks cool but cmon do they really expect me to pay over 30 smackers for a fucking 2d sprite RPG
Yes
>Snoy dying from shitty rushed games and shit ideas by hacks
>Snoy dying from censorship
>Bad game after bad game, money being thrown into a pit
>Snoy gets desperate for PC ports
this is you get PC games.
I said no consolewars, buck.
Absolutely not worth it. Love JRPGS and don't think I've got sick of one so swiftly as Octopath.
>Imitation 'retro' graphics
>Dull characters who rarely (if ever) interact
> Endless, tedious boss fights
> Repeating the same chapter structure over and over again
Honestly it plays like a game made to cash in on nostalgia for the early FFs, while forgetting what most people liked most about those (story, character, battles that weren't everlasting)
Avoid.
Alright, what about early FFs, did they actually have good enganing stories? We're talking about FF1-5, right? I know FF7 story is supposedly pretty dope.
It represents everything wrong with "fans" of JRPGs. It’s pandering of the worst kind and does way more damage than fanservice ever will.
It's ok, good mechanics and entertaining for a whille but don't expect to want to complete it. The disconnected character chapters are a major drag and extremely hard to get invested in, you'll be forcing yourself to slog through them in hopes that it'll ever pick up. I've made attempts to try and get back into it at least 3 times and could never do it, it gets so fucking dry and tedious.
Absolutely not worth full price or probably anything over $30 unless you're really into it conceptually.
YEah
It’s pretty solid as far as “””old school””” JRPGs go. If you’re looking for that sort of experience, Octopath will probably keep you satiated
Can’t say if it’ll keep you in enough to see the true ending but you’ll make probably finish at least four character stories
The graphics look nice and the battle system is decent but everything else varies from mediocre to bad, be it characters, the writing, the formulaic progression etc. The game is not every interesting. I never finished it.
I'd give it like 5+/10.
Yes, it becomes: 1 guy strikes down boss' shield, wizard hoards BP while 2 other characters heal or buff the shit out of wizard/debuff the boss.
i wish pokemon looked like this
It's enjoyable, if repetitive in overall structure. Start with Alfyn or Therion.
