GBF is a better game that actually have more depth in gameplay unlike FGO or most gachas for a change, with better character designs, translation and more fair in getting SSR characters since FGO is so shallow that they need to make it hard to get them, since once you have those units, the game has nothing else to offer. Nothing to be salty about, really.

Most gachashit trash is just rng on top of rng with absolutely no depth or strategy.

Fate history has always been alternate history so they can do whatever they want.
The problem dates back to Extra, which was also alternate history, where Nero being a woman was something that was canon THERE but not in main Fate or FGO history.

Servants have decks of five cards. 3 servants is 15 cards total, but not every has the same deck. It could be Arts Arts Arts Quick Buster, or Quick Quick Arts Buster Buster, or Buster Buster Arts Arts Quick, or Quick Quick Quick Buster Arts. Etc. Team building is usually based around card synergy, all three build types have their perks, it's less "THIS IS WHEN I CAN DO GOOD DAMAGE" and more "I can benefit from this teamcomp every turn"

Events come and go and I don't even bother getting any of the materials because I have enough for a full roster that I'll never roll because the rates are so shit.

I'm reading about how events work in FGO and it seems like a pain in the ass. Not only do you have to beat the entire story before you can even participate in most of them but you have to spend an absolute fuckton of AP to play them because you can only uncap event characters with materials from the events. And apparently you have to get 5 copies of a character if you want to level up their Noble Phantasm all the way.

Meanwhile in GBF the events cost practically no AP and are generally just some light reading and a couple raids. AND they're fully voice acted. Sure there are some event exclusive weapons and summons but they tend to be easy to get. Even a really new player can get them because all you have to do is join a raid and let someone else do most of the work for you and you'll still get drops. On top of that, GBF actually goes so far as to make old events permanently available so you'll always be able to get useful items with no time limit.

FGO just feels like they looked at GBF and thought "How can we make this more unfriendly to the players?" Because they know people will play and pay anyway, because it's Fate.

This is an easy prospect, actually. You don't need to grind that much to beat it, and it's easily beatable with a team of decent 3*'s, though I will admit missing out on early events is a pain in the ass.

This is also super easy, actually. Most events dump the necessary stuff on you during the second half of the event. You only needed 600k points on both Oda and Shinsengumi ladders to max out Chacha and you got bare minimum 250k for each side from event story stuff.
GBF making old events permanent will always be excellent, though.

also, comparing your two examples im not sure how with a straight face you can say GBF looks better. majority of the animations are just particle animations, not character animations, and the animations the characters have are extremely short and animated at a pretty low frame rate. having smooth animation does make things look like flash, but at least it means its animated, and not just a bunch of still images linked together.

Welfare FGO servants are all almost uniformly top tier though. Rider Kintoki was the only effective quick servant next to Jack for almost two years. Even the less awesome ones are still exceptionally useful and worth having. AOE crit heavy assassin, AOE assassin with huge debuff stacking stuff, even the LizClones are good. The work put into getting them is absolutely worth it.

There's nothing wrong with this and if you just want to complete the event servants, you can almost always do that with normal AP gain, without spending any replenishment items. You only have to start using apples if you want to empty out the shop

Hence why it is so beneficial that GBF lets you read events without any restrictions because you're not grinding at all. You're just reading.

Probably. I liked SO3 and SO4, and very few aspects of SO5 (all party members in battle, as well as the graphics+colour scheme are beautiful) but SO5 overall feels like it was made by 5 guys and one of them was some kind of graphical wizard who really likes blue and green.

Welfares being free NP5s is the entire reason why they're so valued especially by western players and considered superior to most other SRs by default. Most newer SSRs want NP2 or higher to not significantly lag behind older characters with interludes in damage output. You also can't reliably loop NPs at NP1.

I like the music, but I'd rather just download the OST from somewhere so I don't have to deal with scrambling to even get raid credit.

I don't dislike grind, but I couldn't even get past the basic omega or whatever farm because of that three hosts a day limit combined with trying to get credit on other hosts fights when Japanese players show up and one shot them, it's frustrating.
Plus with all of the events, side-stories, fate chapters, the long main story (which I started skipping because I felt rushed and the early stuff wasn't really grabbing me), etc I was overwhelmed. Much of that is probably more of the fact the game is so old and it's hard to get invested that late in.

See, like I said above and like even another user said, trying to even reach that point as a non-Jap is an exercise in pain.
Especially when content is the same element or strong against your starting element.

I think that one of the nice things of Granblue is how different the characters play like how Narmaya is a Vergil changing stance character, Silva being a walking nuke, Hallesena who ramps up and doesn't wants to get hit. Then there us the MC who has different classes and can change the entire team composition.
The mystic codes don't compare and most FGO characters are shallow with badly thought out effects and often repeated stuff with different colors, bring out the Waver or Skadi to 3 turn the same farming node a million times.

It's true, when I tried FGO I was really let down by how almost all servants are just a mix of rehashed skills with very few unique or interesting skills. FGO gameplay & teambuilding is really shallow compared to GBF.

Nah, not really. Most of the servants coming out in the near future either already got buffed (Schez, Kiara, Melt, Semiramis...) or will never get buffed at all (Summer servants, Hokusai...). Yet others are already top tier even without any buffs (Parvati, Achilles...).

The two-year gap is basically just big enough to tell you exactly how strong a servant is going ot be.

They really need to get going on FGO2, at least in some form. I wouldn't be surprised if they ran them in parallel for a while before shutting down FGO1.

A big problem FGO has is that they're shackled to their 5 year old code. GBF doesn't have this problem since it's web based and they can just push whatever updates they want. But being app-based is really limiting, especially for older games. FGO is definitely approaching the end of its lifespan whereas GBF can just keep evolving.

the NA fgo translation is run through 3 translation teams.

all the RAW text is sent to a bunch of sea monkey who often don't even speak english, who put it into "english". this text is then send to the na "translation" team who rewrites it to have correct sentence structure and tries to fix any errors. whatever they write is then either send back to either someone at TM or aniplex, who has word of god and can change whatever they want. then it gets put in the game.

I just started playing this game the other day and I got Elizabeth Bathory in my first draw, knowing my luck she's probably crap or something but I was pretty happy about it because I always liked her and so I got a cute character right from the start.

3 portraits with a few different faces, sprites, an art piece, and a few voice lines. The amount of work put into these is not even an iota of what you'd find in a character in any other JRPG yet people pay several times the price of an entire game just for one of these. But hey, whatever makes them happy right? They got all those "hours of farming content" so that totally justifies it.

They're Live2D thingies with 3D models here and there on newer servants. The images in the menus have to be PNGs since they have transparencies. Card art may be JPG but nothing stopping it from being PNG. Horrible resolution on the cart art though, the zoom function might as well not exist.

GBF is 5 years old and severely limited not just by being a fucking browser game, but by Cygames' general incompetence/laziness (refusal to fully transition to HTML5, refusal to implement https, tons of spaghetti code that needs to be rewritten, mobile app so poorly done that it's better to just open the game in chrome on phones)

GBF has a whole MMO-lite side to it that you can interact with if you want. The main story is pure single-player JRPG but a lot of the endgame raids are basically MMO fights. A big part of why I play it is because it scratches the MMO itch without requiring the same level of time investment. Having actual hard fights to use your teams on makes the grind/teambuilding aspect feel a lot more rewarding.
