by going to them

This I have been going to an arcade in salem for a few Saturdays almost every summer as long as I could remember

by annexing japan

>Go to an arcade
>Nothing but normies

Get rid of ticket games

theres none in canada, even my local is dieng and being taken over by smash players

Attached: nanaya.jpg (500x500, 56K)

>arcade games nowadays are nothing but redemption machines with the difficulty set to insane to get you to spend more money
>none of the joysticks work because they get trashed by kids

Whereabouts? There used to be an arcade in midtown Toronto but it shut down before I had a chance to go. I don't even think it was a legit arcade, it looked more like a bunch of candy cabs owned by some dude who swapped different consoles/games inside it every now and then in some basement. Nothing fucking survives longer than a year here unless it's a meme barcade.

>go to a nearby arcade
>60% of the machines are mobile games

Attached: 1521325249888.jpg (400x400, 29K)

You're not going to make the States any smaller are you?

You won't, because you'd have to get American arcade owners to put in something other than ticket machines and those are what make the most money.

The machines shouldn't be so stupid expensive to maintain in this day and age.
When no one is playing a game, the machine is mining crypto.
Cards and season passes.
Be a bar with good food in a urban area but with great parking.

this. the arcade Yea Forums wants isn't one that offers 'prizes' its one that has games, and those aren't sustainable unless their willing to make you pay at the front for an all day bracelet or something which would require some form of tracking or some shit.

Fighting game locals have replaced pretty much everything you'd actually want to play in an arcade except for Japanese rhythm games

It's too late for traditional gaming arcades. about 10 years too late. Nowadays you get dave&busters type shit and that's about it.

Also, be based out of Vegas and have a lounge that streams or live-hosts speed-runners. Take bets on when they actually finish.

>how do we save the thing thats been dead longer than the average user has been alive
32 year old boomer here, arcades were on their deathbed by the late 90s and the PS2 era killed them.

Why do they thrive in japan.

Build a local gaming community around them and keep the people in the community engaged

This never works because grown adults have work, family or both

Why do people say they cost too much nowadays? How hard is it to get an old arcade machine from the 90's and just setting it up in a corner somewhere in a gas station or laundromat like they used to be? Better yet, just buy the boards of a couple games and make/buy a generic cab. Those cost way less because they're not collectors items. Put it in view of the counter so when little shits start trying to break it you can tell them to fuck off, and just enjoy the passive revenue. Or do you have to pay monthly licensing fees to the game companies or something?

can't in the states

Class then up and add more amenities.

work culture, if you've been to them during lunch hours it's full of businessmen. It's kind of like why handhelds are so popular, it just fits better with the work "culture"

The thing is people that go to laundromats don't have a lot of money and people that go to gas stations don't wanna stay there except to buy cigarettes or refill their gas.

the boards are very expensive.
people dont let their kids wonder the streets any more. so corner stores dont make room for it.
why would little timmy play on their arcade machine when he can play games for free on his phone?
soooo...you are saying they are as they always were? because they were always set up that way.

I just want neat Arcade games to play
Bring over the 3v3/4v4 Arcade games Japan has (Dissidia, Gundam, Fate GO, etc.)

*Sorta saves the arcade scene*

Attached: savior.jpg (1280x720, 164K)

Outside of Barcardes Arcades are DONE

The places are loud, have constant maintance cost, flashy and if your trying to keep new games in the place expensive.

The machines can not be the only pull the beer and some kind of event needs to be there.

Kids rather places games on their phone or online with fortnite. They dont wanna have to spend $10 to play a game when they can play the same if not better version at home. Dead in the US

America got shitty ass acrade games. Went to Dave and Buster's and shits dumb ad. Why don't they have actual games like the Japanese

VRcade. Trust me bro

There’s an arcade a few blocks from my house that’s still kicking. They got a nice selection old machines in good condition and some new stuff too. Any of you miamibros in south florida familiar with arcade odyssey?

have one by my house
it's eh. game selection is lacking if you don't like fighters or rhythm games. friend apparently saw some furries in costume there before too

I don't know if a Barcade would be the most successful. Because people that to go bars are normies. They just wanna get laid or cause trouble.

Have some good crane game prizes

The boards don't seem very expensive

I think there's more of an issue of licensing this stuff for commercial/public venues though. Even though you're using real arcade hardware if Midway or whatever finds out they could probably shut you down. Kind of like how companies can technically tell you to stop having console games set up for customers to play in libraries or daycares. I remember arcade laws are kind of bullshit in certain places.

You're kind of right about the kid thing but I used to work in a corner store for a few months a little while ago and kids came in all the time for slushies and shit, especially if you're set up near a school. This was in the suburbs though maybe things are different in city areas.

Almost every arcade these days is 90% gambling for tickets games, a couple light gun games and a ddr machine. They are already lost to us.

Attached: 1420321248246.jpg (765x625, 23K)

Gotta make sure not to lose too much money on the claw games ;)

Attached: o.jpg (750x1000, 117K)

>complain about shitty arcade games
>goes to dave and busters

what the fuck were you expecting?
go to places like Round 1 instead.

The ones that are run by guys who actually have passion eventually get fucked over.

If you have a local arcade and it's not run by a shithead, do what you can to help support them.

>having to get out to play vidya
What a terrible idea

Don't
They're anti-consumer and you only like them because of nostalgia

Lads, a good bar in my town got one of these machines and I need to know how to get good so I dont embarass myself in public.

Attached: 1362346234.jpg (1552x873, 409K)

>see coin pusher machine
>study it for a few seconds
>drop in one quarter
>immediately leave, now 3 dollars richer

Attached: homer.gif (375x375, 171K)

parents would rather want their kid playing free2play games than blowing 20 bucks on an afternoon at the arcade

pretty much this sadly, even massive places with one cost entries aren't exactly going to make a ton of revenue to stay afloat, even if they have all of the machines turned off when not in use.

Hard to tell, most kids now treat these things like shit.

in the west? you don't. because literal phone games and gambling take precedent. they're literally fucking casinos for kids now.

>closest one to me is in PORTLAND, ME of all fucking places

why would you open up such a based arcade in one of the smallest cities in the fucking country

How's the game selection at Round 1?
Going to one this weekend.

Move to japan. The only arcades that last more than a few months are barcades, but they usually have garbage games and are more about spending a fuckton on drinks.

How is your Japanese?

Closest one is around 2 hours away
Only only want to go to try out some of the rhythm games there but too nervous to try something out in public

Attached: 1537129175176.jpg (763x540, 81K)

>MFW nearest one from me is 10 minutes away

Nice place too. Besides arcade games, they have bowling, karaoke, bar, darts, billiards, and they serve food which is pretty good.

Attached: Thumbs Up.jpg (530x482, 22K)

>and the bad guys won a long time ago

has this person ever played a FF game? nearly every one of them either begins or ends the first arc with the evil empire or ultimate villain completing their control of the world, and the second arc is essentially sneaking into a fantasy magical missile silo or weapons storage to grab a nuclear torpedo and then hijacking a submarine to launch it at the big baddy.

>tfw rhythm+fighting games autist

I go to the one 10m from me every week

Attached: Screenshot_2017-04-26_00-31-52.png (1920x1080, 1.26M)

>arcades are ticket shit in my country
>nearby countries have the good shit
I feel you burgerbros

GOAT if you like rhythm + fighting games, they also have some cool shit like Magician's Dead and Gunslinger Stratos.

Free blowjobs

The pvz one is fun in theory.

Introduce a bar and maybe a restaurant element and people will come.

I went to the Round One near me and it was just a million DDR machines.
DDR, Pump It Up, In The Groove, Dancerush Stardom, and a dozen variations of those machines.

>tfw they just finished loc tests for NesicaxLive2 cabs
>more fighting games are coming

Attached: dizzyhappy.jpg (474x266, 22K)

open round 1 in minnesota so i can play bemani games outside conventions pls

They can start by putting in some good fucking games
I worked at a Dave and Busters and it's a hellhole. We would routinely trash good games like Guitar Hero to replace them with garbage like "Floppy Bird" or "Worlds Largest Connect 4"
We has TWO fucking crossy road machines. 50% of our games were literal Android apps ported to Windows, slapped on to a big screen. We had a Spiderman game where you wait for it to tell you to push the button, and then you do. That's it. And it would crash every 30 minutes on the dot and required a full PC reboot to work again.
We had to shut down Daytona because the top screen (Which is literally run by Raspberry Pis) stopped working due to the SD cards breaking. Am I allowed to just copy one of the good SD cards and fix it? Of course not, shut it down.
Management are fucking retards.

Attached: 1426105479143.jpg (662x413, 41K)

>Round 1 is literally 10 minutes away from me
>Have only gone a handful of times with co-workers doing more normie things
I feel like I’m taking it for granted, lads.

Sounds great. Do they have any initial D? My local arcade sold theirs.

Round1 has actually good games, but they're a Japanese company so big shocker there.

Yup, they've got Initial D. I mostly go for the rhythm games and BBCF arcade mode + to dunk on folks in casuals... I need to try some of their other shit more often.

Had one of these 3 mins from house. RIP.

Attached: 6.jpg (550x413, 78K)

The last time I went to a round 1 they had shit ton of fighting games like street fighter and what not. Literally no one was playing them though and I got sad. They also had a king ghidorah statue as a prize but it cost a gorillion tickets

But that takes time. I just want them to be there.

>mfw no Round 1s near me, just in every fucking state that's near me but not my own state
user, buy a fucking NESICA card and go to town, you're wasting a gift.

What kind of earphone jack do those rhythm games take? I swear I’ve seen people plug some shot into them one time

I went to one once, and they had Injustice, but it was just a port of the phone game. Didn't even have joysticks. So fucking bizarre.

Attached: shopping.jpg (560x560, 40K)

since round 1 opened near nyc, spent about a grand and change. there's a special charm when it comes to getting together with older guys and just playing till 1am. the arcade scene is slowly coming back tho, usually for games that we're already popular back in the mid 00s.

Attached: Maxi 5.jpg (1137x640, 75K)

A new one opened up near me that's actually pretty cool, lot of jap shit

where is this located at? or is it another round 1?

Regular aux port.
>tfw they don't sell aime cards for the Project Diva cabs
importing Project Diva X payed off in the end, since it came with one for me lmao

raw thrills are such a shitty fucking arcade company, i don't think i've played a single game from them which wasn't a cash grabbing cheap piece of shit.

case and point pic related

Attached: th.jpg (474x474, 36K)

That'd be a Round1, aka weeb heaven.

>have absolutely god tier arcade near me
>have no friends who want to hang out there for a whole night having fun trying out all the machines
Feels bad man, my friend always wants to leave after an hour or so. I feel like they may need to build a rest area or get a prize counter going.

Attached: galloping ghost.jpg (512x512, 47K)

Where the hell do I even get one I thought they were only jap

nah

The nickel arcade near my house literally smells like ass and sweat since like 1997

Round1's sell them at the counter, along with e-Amusement passes and the Bamco equivalent.

love this place
wish i lived closer, and that they had a tetris the grand master machine
if they did i'd be there all day playing robotron, joust, and tetris

That was one of the most popular games there. It's fucking garbage. Every time you play, it gives you a trading card, you can then use those cards to select a character. Once you get a rare card, you win every time, there's NO balance or skill involved. If you get the red Green Lantern you just win.
Fun fact, the cards have to be loaded in an extremely specific way. You have to wait till it's completely empty, open it up, put every card from a new box into it, then scan a verification card that is not reusable to confirm that you've loaded a newly bought box, and if the stars align it might work. If any small thing goes wrong the machine will refuse to work.
My dickhead coworkers kept blaming me for it not working so before I quit I opened every box in our stock and shuffled the cards slightly so each box had a couple more or less cards then they're supposed to, rendering them all unusable.

The Fast and Furious arcade game Raw Thrills made was fun as fuck. Agreed though their games are crap, but like I said the F&F game was pretty good.

Seems like they're in almost every arcade here. Why are they so common? I swear like half of all games in a given shitty arcade are made by raw thrills.

I went to the one in Moreno Valley, CA and it has some nice light gun games. I haven't played one since Time Crisis 3 was new but I still had a lot of fun with them.
Hogan's Alley was also one of my favorite NES games and my aim is still good.

they are WAY too expensive, ranging from $2 AUD to some arbitrary shit like $3.20 AUD (to con you into buying a prepaid card they use so you can get it "cheaper")

I will say the Halo game made by Raw Thrills is actually pretty good and way more fair than Raw Thrills usually is.
It's four players and even when alone you get AI players, you don't get targeted by stuff meant to hit another character either.

I'm about to buy the $100 credits bundle next time I go to Round1, AMA.

never played that one, the local place only had their need for speed underground arcade release

probably because they're one of the few companies still making big licensed property arcade games, like pic related for the normies to recognize and dump cash into

Attached: wd.jpg (474x474, 35K)

What games you playing?

It really is amazing, they've got a lot of rare arcade and pinballs machines including Chicago 1929 (which is a prototype with only one machine in existence and it's a shitload of fun).

youtube.com/watch?v=vFzTFBAarQI

Attached: chicago 1929 arcade flyer.jpg (189x266, 13K)

All the rhythm games. SDVX, Taiko, Pop'n, Dance Rush, Project Diva - all of 'em. Also I play the Nesica cabs when I want a change of pace.

>Walking Dead arcade

Tell me is it a light gun/arcade shooter game? Looks like a decent game if it is a shooter. I enjoyed HOTD and Time Crisis games.

Attached: Mother Dick.jpg (320x220, 13K)

it's one of those mounted gun "light gun" shooters, and not a very good one. cheap attacks on the player like other raw thrills titles, assets taken from that old activision TWD game, no characters from the comics or shows and only one ending no matter what the player tries to do with illusion of choice. oh, and it's about thirty minutes in total. spoilers; you leave the prison. that's it.

It's shit. No matter how well you play you're probably going to cough up quarters. Also have fun listening to that one TWD theme song the whole time

>tfw live near 3 of them
feels okay to live in commiefornia sometimes

Attached: 1542501730778.gif (364x339, 768K)

i live about an hour from this place. we should meet up user :)
also GGA is great but last time i went they used exclusively american buttons/joysticks and that's not so great.

Which one do you go the most? Mine is Lakewood.
>tfw the Pop'n cab an heros every other hour

population density mostly

>that carpet
>that layout
Looks like a Tilt but I haven't seen one of those in 20 years, at least.

Santa Ana mostly, sometimes lakewood as friends live near there

>tfw slowly getting gud at groove coaster and other rhythm games
feels good

so there's a chance of getting the FGO arcade in the US through Round 1?

weed

What rhythm games do you play besides Groove Coaster, user? I need to play that one more, the new cabs are coming in next week.

Slim, but yes. Ask them on twitter, maybe it'll help some?

Create more unique machines that arent big screen mobile games
Make it a hangout for at home players with renting a big tv for halo or smash so they can have more room, introduce more people, or scream (with complimentary deo exclusively for melee players)
Maybe rent out pcs too for poor people or groups of friends that need a proper space

I know that feel. They had one one Phoenix and they closed it about a year ago. I used to go for the DDR but now I have to go to Glendale (like 40 minutes out compared to 10).

Beatmania and the other machine with the big white glowing circles, forget the name.
GC is getting new cabs?

their arcade games are ok but man they have cheap beer and so many different activities to do there's no other place quite like it. Also it's the only place in my area that has decent english karaoke

Attached: goodman.jpg (222x227, 10K)

This is my gripe. Every arcade I know of is your typical Dave and Busters giant touch screen phone games, bland racecar ones with the seat and wheel, basketball/skeeball/kiddy shit, or coin/gift dropping machines. If there was an actual arcade around me that had like street fighter, mahvel, galaga, midway machines and the like, I'd go to it.

>go to japan
>mfw arcades that are 6, 7, 8 stories tall
>arcades in malls that don't suck a ton of shit
>found a family owned retro game shop with an original super mario cabinet in the front
>got a couple gamecube controllers for $30 each
>they work perfectly

God I love Japan.

>GC is getting new cabs?
Yup. Sound Voltex got new cabs this week at Lakewood and Santa Ana, too.

Attached: groovecoasterupdate.png (575x684, 641K)

forgot mfw

Attached: 1431802844165.jpg (491x491, 145K)

Tell me more about Round1 Yea Forums, apparently there's one in a mall about 20 minutes from me.

Read

Speaking of Phoenix, AZ does anyone live near there? I'm part of a DDR group but everyone is god and I just want to teach someone how to play DDR.

I'd go to Japan if rent wasn't so damn expensive

Oh shit, can't wait

Attached: 1402044344464.jpg (197x225, 11K)

Do an Airbnb. You gotta jump through some hoops but it was much cheaper to stay there than at any of the hotels. I think I spent about $30/night on average for lodging?

illinoi.. sorry annon we cant play vidya togeather

The sheer act of playing will make you look like a god from a normie’s perspective, don’t worry.

Big problem with arcades is that they tend to attract gangs, which is why they tend to get shut down, both because parents won't allow their kids to go there and there is too much hassle when fights break out in them because of stupid people.

That being said, there is a massive potential for arcades to make a return these days with VR, the average consumer doesn't have either the hardware or space to do VR properly.

And there are a plethora of good arcady VR games like EVE Valkyrie and if MW5 gets VR support which is a long term goal, then we could definitely see a return of Mech Pods.

Bros how do I go about importing some jp rhythm games? Trying to do some research and can't really find anything that seems concrete

Amazon Japan, but most of the good shit gets brought over anyway. Stuff like Project Diva Future Tone, Taiko PS4/Switch, and DJMAX all have digital releases over here.

I live in Asia and arcades are everywhere
they are propped up by sad lonely men trying to feed their pathetic gambling addictions since "proper" gambling is heavily restricted in this country

because of this arcades are swimming in cash and usually have a great selection of games, a bit similar to how good gyms keep the lights on due to all the pathetic fatties using the treadmills.

Attached: 1359689817655.jpg (800x586, 351K)

>tfw hearing about all of these anons enjoying rhythm games at a Round 1
>live in bumfuck nowhere

Attached: catcrying.jpg (270x270, 15K)

I’ll see you at Raj, user.

not just japan
china, korea, taiwan, vietnam, thailand, everywhere I've been arcades are big

the secret is catering to the sad old man demographic as said

that plus very low electricity prices means you can have a garage full of machines and pay very little in overhead.

Attached: 1469064842764.jpg (640x427, 57K)

Sorry, I worded that poorly. Arcade cabs specifically. I know the newer ones need internet connection but I'm interested in ones that don't obviously.

???

Oh, that, I have no fucking clue honestly.

>don't live in bumfuck nowhere(NYC)
>but the closest R1 is still somehow hours away from me in upstate NY
whyyyyyyy do cali sois get all the Round 1s...

I might go there next saturday night, I'll probably be playing NFL Blitz for quite some time.

Attached: 1442469740869.jpg (600x600, 52K)

I work at an arcade. AMA.

Attached: hobo wright holding binoculars.png (1280x720, 704K)

rajotg.com

Because SoCal is closer to the port of entry Japanese imports go through, so it was cheaper to get entrenched there. Simple logistics, user.

How bad are the niggers?

I had no idea this was a thing. Fuck... I'm already going to E3, Anime Expo, and EVO this year. Some day.

"Hey user when do you wanna meet up at the arcade?"

Attached: sdgsdgs.jpg (748x865, 54K)

Ever been to Galloping Ghost?

stop playing shitty console/pc games and make good, simple arcade games like we had in the 80s

How do you deal with black people breaking the machines?

Not too bad, actually.

They opened a Round 1 in my mall almost two years ago now. Changed my life, I would go and play Crossbeats for like hours at a time every week and now I own a cabinet in my home of it.

I also got into Project Diva which turned me into a fucking HARDCORE Vocaloid fan over the course of a year and now I'm hopelessly trapped in it. Also own an arcade controller for it now at home too.

So aside from Groove Coaster which is only okay (the frequent updates are the only thing keeping it remotely interesting to me still) there isn't much of a reason for me to go. I'm fucking KILL for them to get any GOD DAMN new rhythm game that isn't a fucking dancing game. DDR and Dancerush are fine and all, I don't play them but it feels like those are the only new machines they ever get. I want Nostalgia or Mai Mai.

Attached: 01f55b822169e7536424dbe22cca723a.jpg (1351x763, 522K)

The only things that actually break are the mini-bowling TV screens when you've got autistic fucks chucking bowling balls like they were softballs. When games "break" it's just a software issue that can be fixed with a simple reset.

arcades are fucking rigged and expensive you nigger

holy shit is this is franchisee? This thing can literally open up anywhere and probably be successful.

I'd get an arcade controller for Future Tone, but going to Round1 gets me out of the house (work online), and I actually have an aime card, which makes me almost feel like I'm in Japan.

You guys are really making me want to check out a Round 1 near me (never been before), my friend and his gf seem down to hang out a lot more these days so I figure I might take them there this weekend.
How's the pricing? Do they sell booze? Will my normie friends like it?

Attached: 1453488012623.png (513x358, 208K)

I've talked to folks who's Round 1's Diva machines let them get 3 songs per swipe. Mine only gets 2 per swipe AND if you fail a song they expect you to swipe again full price to get one more song which is a rip off. It's just cheaper to at least get good enough at home before I go play arcade and fail out of every song on extreme.

Attached: Hatsune.Miku.full.1491273.jpg (1129x1200, 428K)

How'd you import your cab bro? I really want to import some dank rhythm game cabs

Pricing isn't bad, and they have cheap beer on weekdays (at least around me).

Mine is 2 songs, but thankfully it lets you play both songs regardless. I can actually clear up to 9* on it so I'm not too pissed about only getting 2 songs.

ATM the contest mode is active, so that's been fun to do.

>How do we save arcades, bros?

VR.

VR in homes is a gimmick but with an arcade machine built to take advantage of it, it would be awesome.

Imagine combining a rumble seat with a joystick and a dogfighting flight sim or one of those motorcyle racing games where you sit on a bike that tilts when you ride. That would be a pretty cool experience that you couldn't reasonably replicate with a home console or PC.

Attached: What a time to be alive.gif (360x270, 1.5M)

If you put $20 on a card you can play the actual games for an hour or three if you're not retarded and play any game involving tickets. Ticket dispensing machines are normie bait and money sinks. Just play the rhythm games and you'll be fine money wise.

They sell booze. Infact my Round 1 is the cheapest bar in my town so a lot of people will go just to drink and play pool and your normie friends will love it, but they probably won't touch any of the Japanese games because they'll go "oh my god it's in japanese what do I do ???" even though you can click 'next' 'next' 'next' and it'll just start the game 90% of the time so you don't have to know anything jap.

Shut the fuck up VRcuck

Dunno. I was in a Crossbeats group in Facebook and the giant ass arcade in Japan went out of business and sold off all their machines so the owner of Tokyo Attack bought shipping containers of them and sold them on the group and I bought one.

Attached: Akanegroovecoaster.png (507x540, 222K)

Is this lazy, derivative shit what passes for trolling these days?

You need to step up your game faggot.

Attached: You Must B New Here.jpg (311x311, 78K)

Let me know if you wanna hit me up and talk more about Diva. I only play arcade and everyone else I know plays with the console and dualshock controllers so I have no one to discuss this shit with in reference to our play style and it sucks.

せやな~

I agree, selling this shit for home use with garbage indie games is the wrong direction for VR.
We could have an arcade renaissance spring again if they'd do this.

Hit you up how my dude?

Mind posting a link? I just made a dummy fb account the other day to try and join some groups specifically for things like that. Seems to be the only way I'll ever get a chance to own a cab

Based Gyari poster.

That song had a Groove Coaster event where you could get her as an avatar, profile picture and a bunch of other stuff.

>Only only want to go to try out some of the rhythm games there but too nervous to try something out in public
This is the other problem with arcades now, people are fucking pussies. Playing rhythm/fightan with strangers is great whether they're good or bad, but most people are too self conscious to have fun learning/getting taught by someone and bail after 1 game.

I really need to get into Groove Coaster. I've heard the PC version is actually pretty good with a steam controller?

[email protected] shoot me a message and I'll throw you my Discord if you want. I've got a group of Diva players if you wanna join too.

Do you want a Crossbeats machine specifically? Because that's the only group I'm in for this stuff.

Hi Code

>owning a dead game
lol

Gameworks literally did this with plastic cards, like credit cards, and it worked fine. You'd pay for either money on the card OR an hour or two of free play, and once you hit the time limit the card would just stop working

Hi Lionius

Are there any decent ones in the Michigan/Lansing area? Only notable one I know of is Pinball Pete's which is okay.

Because they can't fit fun interactive games in their homes so they go to arcades for fun. America simply has too many things at home which kills arcades and movie theaters.

Looks like you're in luck.

WHERE THE FUCK DO YOU FIND GOOD ARCADES IN THE UK

sows lol

>hour and a half drive from me
Might go if I ever go by the area or I can convince my friends to try it out.

Also Japan is a commuter society which still use physical currency more often than digital. Japan is a lot more urbanized as well so the foot traffic in arcades is really high coupled with what the other user said that most Japanese homes are small.

Plus Japanese arcade machines tend to be constantly updated with events and new contents. American machines are always like stagnant; whatever ships is how it stays for it's entire life. A Japanese arcade game will be completely different or feature rich content compared to when it first shipped from all it's continual updates and events.

WHAT

You have an example in this very thread of the cabs being updated at Round 1.

Some days I wonder if moving to Japan would be comfy, I wish I knew the language and culture better.

Dirty Drivin was pretty fun.

Yes. Because those are Japanese arcade cabinets. That's why Round 1 is successful compared to a traditional western arcade.

Western arcades prior to Round 1 were all hole in the wall failing businesses in the last decade because they're stagnant and boring. Round 1 is exciting to us because they import the newest (usually) Japanese arcade games like the new DDR, Dance Rush Stardoom, Beatmania etc. and keep them connected to the Japanese network to receive the updates and keep things fresh. The old western style arcades are all full of ancient machines (I mean, I love Cruisin' USA too but I can't play it for twenty years straight), ticket machines and old DDR machines (usually bootleg and off the network) so there was no reason to keep going back to them and why they hemorrhage money.

Round 1 is a great example of how to "save" the arcade, at least in the west where it needs saving. Not only do they import the JP machines which draw in the weebs and rhythm game whales they cater to the American audience properly with karaoke, alcohol, pool, bowling etc. so they're dividing and conquering as many demographics as they can. Old arcades only targeted young children really.

Nice discussion.

Raw Thrills games are trash loaded with impossible to avoid hits. You can 1cc Time Crisis and House of the Dead. You will never 1cc Fireteam Raven or Terminatorn Salvation. Also the machines are made from cheap chinkshit.

People seem to dislike Dave and Busters but I never had a problem with them. The food is ok. They have plenty of modern spectacle games like Luigis Mansion and House of the Dead Scarlett Dawn. Even the older machines like Sega Rally 2 work great.

I really like Scarlett Dawn. Truly a visceral(tm) experience. Box is loaded with tech: seat rumble, lighting that changes with the game, air jets for when you launch grenades/are close to a helicopter type shit, its cool. I would have preferred and stand up game but at least they aren't mounted guns.

Moneys tight so I havent been to Round 1 or Dee and Bee in a few months.

Also Daytona 3 sucks my ass.

any good ones in San Francisco? moving there at the end of the month

There's a small one in Japantown with a run down Taiko cab, Pop'n and one of like 5 Rhythm Heaven arcade cabs in the US.

saw that one on yelp, and it did in fact look like the only good one out there. most other arcades are just barcades who attract the wrong crowds who otherwise would never find themselves in arcades. prime example is coin op in downtown Sacramento. a bar right in the center of the place with 24/7 sports on

Dirty Drivin and H2Overdrive are both great and made by ex-Midway guys that did Hydro Thunder.

I would say the one at the Metreon but that's been kill for ages

zenius-i-vanisher.com/v5.2/arcade.php?id=3125#games
Anyone got a status update for the games there? Need to know if they updated the cabs to the latest version of their series.

>one of like 5 Rhythm Heaven arcade cabs in the US
Does anyone in LA know if Super Arcade still has their Rhythm Heaven cab? I know he had one at the old location.
And while i'm at it, do they still have Panic Park?

Attached: DkZKdGIUwAEH82E.jpg (960x540, 137K)

I haven't been yet, since the Lakewood Round1 is 10 minutes from me and Super Arcade is over an hour away. Maybe one of these days, if a friend decides to drag me to FGC casuals there.

HD Taiko @ Round 1 when???

>go to round 1 on sunday
>giga wing 2
based but everything's still overpriced and the timecard system they have is better at other local arcades near me

>no arcades in my area
>go to Round 1 in Socal
>only games being played are Dave & Busters tier shit and rhythm games

Why did I expect fighting game players.

...

Nobody plays the fighting game cabs in SoCal because we have locals literally every day of the week.

What's an arcade?

oh yeah? A R1 just opened near me and we only have nesica+ machines. I hope we get the Live2 machines so I can play cross tag and SF5 Type Arcade ;^)

Attached: real shit.png (327x292, 295K)

Yeah, here's hoping it's soon. Maybe next month?

central coast here. my round 1 always has crowds of children around the Marvel 2 machines and full grown mexican ass mexicans around the KOF machines. my group of friends play ultimax and central fiction

Giga Wing has a sequel?!

I don't know why Taiko and Pop'n are stuck with these ancient cabinets. I've heard it's an overseas licensing thing, but that doesn't stop literally every other rhythm game from being updated.

>Arcades and Lan Centers are dead in my area

You'd think with ESPORTS being such a big fad Lan Centers would make a comeback.

Attached: sandrakers_by_jakneurotic-d4oyd8x.jpg (900x680, 113K)

anyone play Gitadora? Anyone else get btfo because they're out of practice with guitar hero? The notes moving up and the area where to strike the note not being at the tippy top rather slightly below were enough to lose a couple games off it.
It had Stand Proud so that was pretty neat

>Live near 6 arcades
>all of them have a stepmania/dance dance revolution station

Attached: nonoreallypleasedont.jpg (373x388, 40K)

I occasionally play it and I'm fucking trash. Guitar games were never my thing. I only jump on when doing 3-man anime jams.

So does every arcade. You're only allowed to be smug if all those places have Taiko.

one of them recently added one

*saves the Bemani UK playerbase*

it's fine to be trash at it. I think gitadora is notably harder than guitar hero. even the easiest difficulties use all five guitar buttons while GH used 3 on easy, 4 on normal and only all 5 in hard and expert

>Shopping centre opens a basic as fuck room with a ddr, a street fighter, a pinball machine, something else and 3 SNES minis
>gone a week later
did kid break it all that quickly or something? I have no idea why they do all that. A "proper" arcade opened a few months later with the usual ticketshit, I don't recognise any of the machines from the room there.

I really hope Las Vegas Arcade Soho gets Scarlett Dawn

Attached: las-vegas-arcade-soho.jpg (337x450, 36K)

Not him, but my friend made a controller for Future tone, and I sucked absolute dogshit stumbling over a lot of the easier extreme songs switching to it, but it was 200% more fun and satisfying, especially when they have the parts where you hold like 2-3 buttons and cross you arm over for the final button.

I should get started building one for myself actually.

They're dying there too, but that's more the lack of kids. Half the reason GameCenter CX exists was just to advertise remote arcades and shops, and a lot of those closed already.

>go to arcade expecting this
>it's actually amazing with a shit ton of classic games, a good selection of shmups, an entire Japanese rhythm games section and some VR and console game set ups
I need to go again

You can buy the one I have pictured there. But I agree, FT arcade is just more fun. The best are songs that have fun slider actions.

>no arcades near me, have to drive at least 1h
>there's that theater with meh cabs
>half of them don't even work

Home console ports that is.

Attached: 1553371321614.jpg (768x664, 232K)

Is that Arcade Club? The layout is almost identical to what I remember but I swear the Groove Coaster and SDVX machines are in each others positions. I know that's where their Jubeit and Taiko machines are 100%. If it's not AC, it's spookily similar.

There's a VR set up right behind the GC and SDVX machines there. Every time I go I think I should give it a try, but then I just play GC and Taiko instead. Or wreck people at Mario Kart.

>a good selection of shmups
for real? I know local pizza places and laundry mats where I can play strikers 1942 but the huge round one doesn't have shit. you're not talking about lightgun games as shmups, right?

Shmups as in Dodonpachi, Ikaruga, Darius Burst etc. Most of them seem to be replica machines but still fun. They have a pretty cool double screen Darius Burst machine.

Why are arcades worth saving?
Use an argument that doesn't involve children and nostalgia.
I've never been to an arcade, they never became a thing where I live.

i would trade half the fighting games at my arcade for even one of those

Attached: 1359515217716.jpg (249x298, 32K)

Yes, it is.
They moved the VR setups into the pinball room. and made that entire back wall pinball machines. It's a lot better being in their own room so it feels a bit more private.

Superior Bishi Bashi coming through

Attached: IMG_20190406_230320.jpg (3120x4160, 1.46M)

How does the middle button work here?

It's a button and a spinner. They reused it from Museca (RIP)

Makes sense. I think half the times I've gone someone knocked a drink into the entrance way while in VR. Pinball in the main room sounds better.

Last time I went I just replayed the shit out of one song on GC. Fun times. Been thinking about going again. I keep meaning to get into the FGC here but it seems like the only game with a big community round here is Tekken. I'm a Smash and BlazBlue player though.

They're opening one in Leeds as well, I hear

Attached: IMG_20190302_221835.jpg (3120x4160, 950K)

>keep niggers out.
>make sure the fucking machines are maintained and functional.

it's literally this easy, 90% of arcade closures in the US can be directly linked to the second one alone.

as a p4 arena player, let me give you some advice. people aren't gonna play a game they cant see. if they see someone play BB and it looks fun, they'll sit down. i've seen people sit down to play nitro plus blasters because other people were on it. nitro plus sucks dick.

This. Just, like, play Arcade or something. Eventually, someone will notice and challenge ya if it's not obvious you know what you're doing.
