It's a shame so many people don't bother to actually break his shields so they dont see the other part to the fight.
best fucking soundtrack
That's something I hate about this game, there is a lot of hidden content without any apparent way of finding it. For example, I replayed all bosses dozens and dozens of times in all difficulties. Recently I was watching videos of the Sundowner fight and found like two attacks that he never used against me, one of them involving grabbing a light pole and flinging it around the arena. How in the fuck? What do you have to do to see that? Another one involved a helicopter but I am not sure.
Very faulty game design in my opinion.
I'm not sure what they were thinking with him. Unless you want a challenge you have literally no reason to cut the shields off since he can actually fuck you up in his second phase. From what I remember at least.
Yes, his version without shields is much more menacing, it makes no sense.
If I was behind the game design he would be invincible until you actually got to cut his shields.
What Metal Gear games do I have to play to enjoy MGR to the fullest?
no point in playing it now that Yea Forums has forgotten it. the endless revengeance threads were fun as fuck
None. It's a spin-off and you need absolutely zero knowledge of the series to enjoy it. The only "returning" character is Raiden himself but I played MGR without playing MGS2 and MGS4, which are the MGS games with Raiden, and felt like I missed nothing
>no point in playing something because Yea Forums doesn't discuss it anymore
Kill yourself.
It's the one MGS game you can play on its own because aside from Raiden, a few enemies and some references here and there it has nothing to do with the rest of the series. The only other character that shows up is from 4 and she appears for 5-10 minutes in total.
One of the biggest issues is that Sundowner has a surprisingly low amount of health compared to other bosses
The lyrics are a masterpiece. Some highlightsÇ
>In the distance machines come to transform Eden - day by day
>Only love is with us now, something warm and pure
>Find the peace within ourselves, no need for a cure
>When the wind is slow and the fire is hot, the vulture waits to see what rots
>Oh how pretty, all the scenery, this is nature's sacrifice
>When the air blows through with a brisk attack the reptile tail ripped from its back
>When the sun sets we will not forget the red sun over paradise
Out of the way

>Dies before even getting into second phase
heh, not so invisible
>game tells you to stealth encounters
>game congratulates you for avoiding combat
>...until you get to the mission ranking, where skipping an encounter awards no rank, which is worse than a d
>you can complete a mission with ranks ranging between a and s and walk away with an overall rank of b or c
So do I use stealth or not!? It's the one most glaring flaw in the whole game, especially since optional missions count against you. Guess they're not fucking optional then, are they?
>Second form of the boss is actually really awesome
>Most people just cheese the shields and skip his second form
Wasted potential, which should be MGR's slogan
sundowner was a victim of the games shitty manual cutting mechanics, anything that requires you to actually do manual and exact cuts is fucked and so people just skip doing it. like how people will just hide to avoid the armstrong rocks
>like how people will just hide to avoid the armstrong rocks
Do you mean the trash he throws at you? These are unavoidable. And the manual cutting mechanics are just unreliable. I still fail at them occasionally despite replaying this game to death.
>hide to avoid the armstrong rocks
I did this in revengeance difficulty
>These are unavoidable
I never did it myself but apparently you can just run around to dodge those.
The thing I didn't realize that screwed me up on blade mode is that you don't actually swipe with the stick, you just let go, otherwise you cut twice when the stick goes back to neutral. Kinda cool to see a mechanic that utilizes the elasticity of the control sticks.
Well I never tried letting go of blade mode to try that, but what I remember is that failing one single cut or taking too long to activate blade mode meant instant damage. And it was also instant damage if you hadn't enough "energy" to do blade mode
Yeah, it took me a while to realize that. It made the Armstrong fight much easier knowing that.
>Sam's iai mechanics whoop fucking ass in his DLC and Raiden has his scabbard
>doesn't get Sam's katana as an equippable sword and the scabbard as an equippable boss-weapon to fully emulate Sam's moveset
I know it'd make Sam's DLC irrelevant in the process but I loved Sam's playstyle.
Just read the plot synopsis for MGS4.
>still get hyped as fuck listening to the ost
Man music really DOES matter
Yeah? Well... I'm fucking your mom!
>Man music really DOES matter
Damn straight. Try playing a game that has no soundtrack. WH40K Firewarrior, I'm looking at you.
You're a loony.
I have PR'd so many times to the MGR OST
>THERE WILL BE
>BLOOD
>SHED
>THE MAN IN THE MIRROR NODS HIS HEAD
Is this really a song about the aftermath of a Nuke being dropped?
I see it more as the song of an immensely powerful monster. It is so powerful that it just strides peacefully through the valley, one hundred percent sure that nothing can hurt it. It's so powerful that it became perfectly tranquil and in peace with itself. That's how I see Sundowner
More about unrepentant brutality being natural I think, and "red sun over paradise" tying into Kevin's description of Sundowner's nickname coming from the bloodspatter he left behind resembling a sunset
oh okay, I thought it was a nuke because after nukes goes off they resemble the same lighting and view of the sun going down and then the whole "When the wind is slow and the fire is hot" and "When the air blows through with a brisk attack the reptile tail ripped from its back" thing
