I feel like it works for what Subnautica is trying to be although I think in the end I'd probably appreciate it more if they went hard into realism or hard into more stylized creatures
In my opinion, the WORST bestiaries are the ones where all the creatures are too samey-looking. An example that I can think of off the top of my head is something like Slugterra, which isn't really related to video games but you get what I'm saying
