As someone that's not played a BR & doesn't like or get the hype about BR's.

From the outside Apex looks slightly less fun, challenging & engaging as Fortnite. The map looks fairly boring & the 'live-service' battlepass crap looks pretty uninspired too. The level of character customization (if any) is nowhere near fortnite either & the general gameplay looks fairly dull.

Blackout, Apex & Firestorm just look like they're trailing, unimaginative, uninspired games just trying to jump on a band wagon. Whereas Fornite looks fresh & fun even after a couple years.

If I was younger & dumb I'd have probably given it a go but I'm just more into story driven games.

Fortnite has the higher manual skill ceiling and is always getting new content, but the spaz-build meta is absolutely insufferable for shooter fans.

Apex did a phenomenal job innovating with the BR genre and if Respawn wakes EA up and makes them realize they need to actually feed their golden goose to keep it alive, it will do well. But if they don't add Solos and Duos and solve their character imbalance, they're going to lose a lot of players.

Firestorm was a mistake. Another half-assed mode for a half-assed game, wasting resources that should have been spent making the core game playable. The meta is the worst of any BR I've played (the aforementioned plus H1Z1): camp hard and get lucky. It's a glitchy mess in nearly every regard with no attention paid to what made other BRs great. There's pretty much no skill to winning beyond basic command of the controls. The only bright side is that the firestorm itself is probably the best closing ring in any BR.

Oh, and the constant whining about cosmetics is probably the worst part of the BR player base, in any game. Who gives a goddamned fuck what color your fucking pants are?

it takes like 3 hours to learn all the basic mechanics. all attachments are pretty much universal except sniper scopes and sniper stocks which are exclusive to DMR/sniper rifles, shotgun bolts for shot guns, and each ammo type having its own magazine. if you have ANY doubt you can just aim at the attachment and see the little pop up that shows if it will go on your gun or not

2-many of the characters do not play differently, 95%+ of fights come down to gunplay and not character abilities. so you cannot get "variety" by switching characters

Luckily it takes a pretty high level of knowledge about the console to do so, with some coding skills to do, so most people won't even try.

They also just updated it yesterday. At the top of the helmet you can see a little bump in the middle which is a really ugly looking ponytail braid. They added a variation that removes the braid and makes it look way better. I can't help but feel like this game would be better without shields. It's fucking annoying to get the drop on a guy, unload your entire clip into him before he even turns around, but it turns out he found a level 4 shield and has a shotgun so you're dead from one shot.
