Hey guys. I like to game every evening after work. It's what I do since my divorce to take my mind off things. I just wrapped up DOOM 2016 and, other than Half Life 2, it is my favorite FPS ever. I just loved it. It was the perfect blend of everything I like in a shooter.
So for you gamer experts out there, can you tell me a game that would compare to DOOM? I like a game that is set in another world, fantasy and monsters, not a whole lot of leveling up stuff and but some. Something without RPG elements. Thanks.

ignore graphics. seriously. early 3D fps games and those who imitate the style have some of the best experiences fps has to offer. dusk is amazing. quake is good too. so is half-life 1 (better than hl2), unreal, etc. and if you want to go deeper, aside from the original doom, hexen, heretic, duke3d, blood and ion maiden are all great 2.5D games shadow warrior 2 is shit, it definitely has rpg elements. its like borderlands
Check the first NuShadow Warrior. Gameplay's tighter than 2 and it still fits your bill

You can get the Metroid Prime Trilogy and have the mouse act as a wii pointer remote. Try looking for ISO files and browsing emulation general thread on /vg/ board for places to get games.

If you liked half life 2 try that half life remake black Mesa or what it's called. The new wolfenstein is ok too, at least the first one. Lots of people liked the Titanfall 2 campaign but imo. it wasn't that special and thats from someone with over 1k hours in the multiplayer. Maybe Rage 2 will be fun?
To be honest I can't think of a singleplayer fps that's better than doom, at least we get doom eternal some time this year.
Has amazing gameplay, inspired by Half-Life and horror games, but it's not really fantasy based. Great AI, technology, and amazing slow-mo mechanic. All the enemies are basically soldiers/robots and the environments take place in an office building but it's still fucking great.
