There's a neat mention of this in the Ratchet & Clank 3 dev playthrough. The bit where Nefarious' ship is rigged to self destruct on your way out used to be an actual challenge, but eventually they realized that playtesters still got that sense of 'urgency' no matter how much time was on the clock; it was just a matter of showing a timer at all.
