haven't played UNIST but before the evo stuff i heard people had to go to discords and shit, now at least on streams they are seen using matchmaking i think

I'm really only watching for reveals anyway. I'm particularly interested to see if Nintendo wants to have a Smash fighter reveal at EVO.

I literally can't give any care to what you say and to EVO.

Is there anything that can be done for the reputation of Smash fans at this point? Particularly Melee fans, but it seems to apply across all of them. You all know the memes about them being smelly, rude, and throwing stuff around like children when they lose. I was personally at a venue once where there was a Smash tournament going on, afterwards the room had to be professionally cleaned to neutralize the smell and one of the Smashers utterly shattered a GC controller supplied by the organizers, now that venue is considering banning them. My own girlfriend texts me almost every day with a new story about the Meleefags who populate the study lounge at her university to play Melee, says they always smell awful and are loud and rude to other students and that they're probably not going to be allowed to play in there next term. What's the correlation between Smashers and this bad behavior, and can their reputation be salvaged to where they're seen as a legitimate community?

Doesn't really matter. The majority of viewers care more about drama and supporting their favorite fgc personality than the games. Assuming they even really play to begin with.
If I see one more niglet say they like xrd or unist then have like 5 hours played....

5 hours in a game is still more than any faggot on Yea Forums plays of any game that isn't a movie game or flavor of the week that gets constant threads

Main stage games require a lot of participation from limited staff for organizing brackets, setting up playing areas, arbitrating dispites, etc. The 11,000 or so main stage participants at EVO have already been pushing staff to its limits for years. Melee's popularity was actually working against it because it was 1,300+ players for a game with setups that no other game used. Until the FGC gets a second wind to warrant a bigger venue and extra day for EVO, there's only so much staff, floorspace, and stream time they can hand out. In the meantime, that sadly means a lot fairly active scenes getting pushed to community-run side tournaments on non-EVO Twitch channels.
