Trannies are heavily focused in specific servers lik Balmung or any server you see advertised as unofficial RP servers. If you play on a server like Leviathan or Faerie, you'll probably have to go out of your way to find trannies.

It's real but you won't encounter them unless you really search for them. They usually stay in their cliques and don't interact much with players outside of them. The danger is that a lot of them are mid/hardcore raiders so be very careful when you join a static.

There's not really that much to compare it to. FFXIV has a better story than most FF games. FFXIV has a better story than most big MMOs, although MMOs are dying in-general.

I joined a random static to do Omega with, which was promptly torn apart by a tranny who always quit after thirty minutes because they got too angry.
