Yeah, neither the left Joy-Con or the Switch Pro Controller have a good d-pad input.
I play with an 8bitdo SF30 Pro controller though, essential to playing Puyo Puyo Tetris or Tetris 99 properly too.

They probably want to release a demo closer to the international release of the game. More effective to release demos before the launch of the game.
Though sometimes a demo is put together weeks or months after the game launches, an alternative strategy to get sales back up.

It is an exploration game with a unique platforming mechanic in her fishing rod. It's a game about swinging and gaining momentum, a little like Bionic Commando but way more freeform and surreal. It's definitely worth playing without any waifuism, the earlier games were cult classics even before the character art led people to waifu the character.
