Interestingly, I guess the Japanese use of "fiend" here is the same as "crack fiend" or "dope fiend", someone consumed by their addiction. So it is very applicable.

I've only ever used threaded cane, both in my original playthrough and NG+.
Sure I found weapons but by the time I did I was so comfortable with the cane I never even equipped them.

Arc/skill is decent with blades of mercy. Bloodletter is the only str/blt weapon but I guess the stakedriver could work too.

Wouldn't that be more of an Arcane Quality? BB stats are confusing, I'm told unlike DaS which sometimes implements multiple stats into the scaling of a single damage type BB will do shit like arc only scaling with one mode of a weapon.
One guy was even telling me that Arcane has no affect on any weapon regardless of what it says its arc scalling is unless it deals arcane damage which is achieved with the appopriate gem or some shit.

I was even told that doing a btg build doesn't even require skill or strength regardless of Chakaga or Bloodletter use because you'll "never use those weapons in their non-blood mode".

What's wrong with it? I always use it over the cleaver for the skill scaling, serration bonus always on, and thrust damage.

Saw Spear is broken tier in PvP to the point where people get extremely salty if you pull it out, it's by far the best PvP weapon in the game. And in PvE it's just the same as the Saw Cleaver, there's barely any difference.
