The combat is great and the graphics are nice but there's little quest variety and the leveling easily gets out of whack.

I always see negative things about the game but I fucking loved it. Great combat systems, top tier soundtrack, gorgeous enemy sprites, and the freedom to do chapters in any order is pretty cool. Only big issue with the game is how mundane the dungeons are, and overall lack of variety in chapter format. But everything else is gold.

No clue why it gets so much hate. How it gets a sequel that improves upon it while keeping the same concept

This is one less system seller for the Switch, which means less people are going to be persuaded to get a Switch, meaning a smaller install base and fewer developers willing to develop games for Switch.

Nobody bought a Switch for Octopath, but if you have a Switch no reason not to play it on that since it's not a game that benefits from more powerful hardware but it's nice to have it portable.
