The 0 and Kiwami PC ports were pretty well-optimized, but there was very little difference in performance between Low and High settings. If this is the case for K2, you might be out of luck.

what? Steam is simply a storefront like GoG, individual publishers can choose whether or not to implement steamworks or denuvo or whatever, and in the case that they don't, you can freely copy games to places outside of the steam install folder and they'll run without steam at all

If you get a hardware recommended with the phrase "It's enough", it usually means the hardware in question will be able to run modern games at medium settings at a decent framerate, not atbthe highest settings possible.

Just go play the original release of Yakuza 2. The Dragon Engine combat is shit and none of the new stuff Kiwami added is any good.

Still requires steam so it's literally nothing.

SSR Akiyama is a better SR Komaki and Komaki takes forever to get.
SSR Majima is better than the SR Majima they give you by default.
SSR Kiryu is better than the SR Kiryu they give you by default.
SSR The Florist is invaluable along with R Amon because K2's Clan Creator needs rocket launcher users just to deal with crowds and it takes ages to get your first rocket launcher user (I think C Amon was the only one who could use it in the base game?)
SR Ono Michio is also really good because he's got True Essence of Healing and I think you only get Essence of Healing normally.

This doesn't mean free cards don't work, a lot of the wrestlers from 6 are very useful, Chono is the best character in the game, Kawara is basically what Date was in 6, SR Yuya is alright, SR Majima is perfectly fine, the Amons are still good, and so on.

No. 3, 4, and 5 HD are just PS3 ports. They're only on PS4 right now and 5 HD isn't even out yet, that comes out June 20th. We haven't gotten them localized yet either, they're still floating around in Japan which is what everyone's waiting for.

It's literally removing a single minigame that westerners couldn't play anyway without drastic changes like we saw in Haruka's jobs in 5, two or three substories, and it's replacing a couple hostesses because they couldn't get the licenses for the previous girls. This is not even close to what the original version removed, not even remotely. Plus it'll most likely have a proper translation considering stuff like the hostesses, hostess maker, and like 30 substories weren't even translated.

And none of this matters because Majima Contruction is super easy and only has 17 missions that take like 3 minutes each to complete.

Some of the levels near the end can be a pain in the ass which you need to do for 100%. It's not hard or anything, but you're definitely right that it's not needed. Still, they're giving it away free if you pre-order compared to paying for it on PS4 so if you're going to jump on it anyway might as well do that.

They have a lot of substories and minigames, but if you just play the main missions the games are insultingly short.

Costumes are all free DLC released over a period of four weeks. Premium Adventure only of course. But considering 0 I think they'll all just come packaged in with the game. You also get some free SR cards of some of the main characters of the story (Like Kawara) and some random weapons you can't get outside of the distribution.

Considering how they balance stuff the Ex-Hard/Legend issue could be because they simply think it would be too hard when it really isn't much of a step up from Hard at all and the games only really get difficult in very specific areas at best.
The outfit thing is idiotic though, the only game that lets you change it on-the-fly is Black Panther 2, everything else requires you to be in PA and it's so dumb. It's even dumber in Ishin because that game has some amazing outfits you can only see when you've essentially done your 100% run because 100% on PA is a waste of time due to not being able to make clear data.

The combat feels awful at first (Especially in 6), but Kiwami 2 speeds up combat and just feels nicer to play in general once you get used to it.

I used Brawler most of the game till I got enough skills in Dragon of Dojima for it to be worth using, and then when you get Tiger Drop the entire game becomes easy as pie even on hard, Majima was going down in like 6-7 tiger drops on SSS, it felt super satisfying

Either start with 1 on PS2 or 0 on PS4. The former shows you how the series advanced in mechanics and design philosophy while also letting you experience the changes the Kiwami games bring to the table, while the latter is more modern but has you hop around various engines and levels of design. You're basically going from the most refined parts of the older engine (0 and Kiwami) to the newer Dragon Engine (Kiwami 2), back to the unrefined older engine (3, 4, and 5), then back to the Dragon Engine but with less refinement than K2 (6).

Only buy Fist of the North Star if you already like Yakuza. It's lacking in a lot of content, a lot of said content is mostly repeats from previous games, and most of the FotNS fanservice is in item descriptions. They also rush through a lot of the main story in general.

They changed the sequence to be longer and more boring, which was my point. In Y1 you just go pick it up, In K1 you have to talk to the guy a few times and find it in the right trash can.

there's also the extra majima fights that are part of the story in ch3 and ch12, in addition to all the times he just fucking shows up on the map. Pretty much everything Kiwami changes is to make the game more tedious and boring. Playing it just makes me want to play the original instead.

There's not much reason not to since most bosses don't give a fuck about staggering anymore so it's nearly impossible to land a decent combo on them and tiger drop does insane damage.

To be fair, the extra lines were added because Sera was a literal who in 1 and it gives slightly more development for him and Nishiki at the same time while also explaining the situation a bit more. The ring scene was also added to show the transition of Nishiki into hating Kiryu more than he already did in 0 and then the new cutscenes with him are to smooth it over. The added Majima bits later on really weren't needed though, you'd already seen him enough by that point so I'm totally with you there.

I had no idea that made that much progress, I'll have to check it out. Is it safe to assume White Knight Chronicles probably won't run on it?

It's okay, it's more for Yakuza fans than FotNS fans. The main story breezes by any manga stuff like Rei, Jagi, Souther, Raoh, etc and adds in some OC bits at the start and at the end to justify New Eden. The side content is all over the place, the substories range from not being that funny to mostly being sad though they do fit Kenshiro's personality pretty much to a T and a lot of what he says in most of them is what the real one would say so it's at least believable. The minigames are pretty much just lifted from 0, the only new minigames are Kenshiro Clinic, Bartender Ken, and racing, and the racing itself is far worse than taxi racing in 5 because the buggy controls like it's on ice 24/7 even when you have all the best upgrades. Nightclub (Aka Cabaret Manager) feels like it's too easy and overstays its welcome for so long, the only decent girl there is Hina and it's over so quickly to boot. There's also a decent amount of grinding if you want to fight Amon, get the platinum, and 10-20 hours of more grinding if you want 100%.

Gameplay-wise it's pretty nice, juggling enemies is nice, using Hidebus is fun, blasting off your clothes is fun, Secret Techniques are enjoyable but it gets a bit tiring 50ish hours in because you're basically using the same six or seven over and over and on bosses you just use Toki's one on repeat because it deals the highest damage. It's also a lot of fun to do instant kills with the pressure points. Don't pay more than like $20 or $30 for it. It's alright but it's not worth full price at all.

How good is Kiwami 2? Kiwami left me feeling a bit empty after how great Yakuza 0 was, and I don't mean "empty" in a good way.

I've been playing the Atelier series on it, emulates near perfectly outside of a small graphics bug with character outlines.

All that's left now is the remaster collection, 6 and Judgment. Can't wait. I'm just glad I got the steel book version of K2, it is noice.

If you haven't played 6 yet then a lot of the stuff like no loading zones and going into stores and fighting in stores is going to be neat for you. It's still lacking in Heat actions and techniques but it's much better than 6's situation, the story is quite enjoyable and the characters are all quite good as is the intrigue. The ending is really the only so-so part about the game. Some of the changes from 2 like cutting Shinseicho, the Marietta, Adam, the music swaps, and changing some movesets for bosses to make them easier isn't something fun to swallow, but the new substories and added content are mostly good so it evens out.

You never need to learn Shogi for any game. Not even Judgment. Just look up a completion video for Challenge 1 and repeat it five times.
