Thoughts on the F.E.A.R series?

Only on pc. Check it out on console. It's a mess and the only praise it deserves is the enemy Ai. It's like Crysis, looks pretty but is shallow as fuck, except in this case it's lacking looks.

Pretty forgettable. I remember it being a tight shooter, but I also remember a lot of bland office spaces. I can’t even remember how many titles I played which is sad, but it had to be at least 2 of them.

I tried playing 1 a while ago, the gunplay was kinda nice, but in general the game was kinda bland and just kept repeating boring hallways and samey enemy encounters too much.
Got bored of it.

When the shooting is as tight as it was in Fear 1, combined with great feedback from the gun sounds, decals etc and the responsive ai, there is absolutely no reason not to center the game around the shooting since that was FEARs strongest aspect. The spooks were just there for atmosphere and flavour more than anything. The shooting is top notch and the game is better of for sticking to that.

1 had some fun weapons, bullet-time and great AI for the time but it gets too samey, just a bunch of grey corridors for hours and hours and I never beat it. I also gave up on the other 2 after few hours because I didn't enjoy them.

shotgun pretty much saved FEAR 1 because honestly the majority of weapons in it were pretty boring

I agree with you, which is why I love 2 more than 1. If anyone said 2 was better than 1, i'd suggest they eat a bullet, but imo, 2's atmosphere really pulled me in. My only criticism is that beyond it's Ai, compared to games these days, it's just meh. Same way I feel about HL.
I love the series and i'm not gonna shy away from saying I bought it on every release for pc and console. Even 3. I thought they were worth it.

Tried playing 2 again after 10ish years and I hated it.
1 still feels great, never played 3.

For the love of fuck people, DO NOT play Perseus Mandate. It's one of the worst expansion packs I've ever played, a terrible experience on any metric, and so bad that it almost ruined my opinion of the original game.

play 1, play 2 and the dlc, forget 3 exists unless you absolutely need more fear and have a coop buddy to slog through it. even then 3 is pretty shit.
