Yeah

from what ive seen, experienced, and read, its to tailor/pander/whatever to a specific community first before branching off
like doing exclusively that thing if youre passionate about it (like, say, paper mario exploits/glitches, jojo speculation/opinion shit, and the sort) or doing a specific type of video as a format for consistent content (its how leafy and pyrocynical got popular at the start)
if you try to do like 15 different topics in a row no one will have any attachment to your stuff because of how varied the content is

You just make fun of children and fat people and boom

Show me 5 channels that do this.

So...pick community, pick sub community, then make a video towards the smallest part of that sub community? Youtube is confusing.

Post your best video you cowards.

Pretend you are the friend of all the retards posting in this thread.

Is every youtube channel a friend simulator now?

I plan on starting a Let's Play channel as a hobby. Specifically, I want to do a channel based on long plays of retro games. My thought process is that I own 2000+ retro single player games, I have a nice voice, and I'm moderately personable. Since I'm already playing 2 or more hours of games every day, I figure I might as well record it and upload it.

My intent isn't to make money or even popularity or any sort of following, but rather to document myself playing through my collection while providing commentary and "Hang out" videos that people can play in the background while doing other stuff. I'd also like to always stay small enough that I can actually read all of my comments and reply to people's thoughts and questions

Search engine optimization

You and 100,000 other channels. Good luck with that.

That doesn't work. If it does then post some proof.

12k subs so far.
Imo, a good channel has consistent upload schedule and a certain benchmark of quality. Maybe not always the same video style or show but if the creator gives a shit and isn't just phoning in some fake personality, I appreciate it.

I think I alienate a number of my subscribers every week because I personally only make videos I feel like making at that time. If they care about me as an artist then they'll keep watching. I don't think I've built it as a place where the content is about myself as much as I'm just a person who makes videos about things I like or feel inspired by. I hope that everyone can enjoy each of my videos for their own reasons.

Also, I'd like to shout-out Welfare Walrus because I found him in one of these threads and I love pretty much every video he puts out.

If my intent is to never get popular or compete for normie views, is there any issue with getting lost in the crowd?

I stream on youtube for funsies with my friends, I don't really think im ever gonna get a lot of views but thats ok.

Here is my shitty fucking channel:

What I can tell you is
>Never stream because the low live view count fucks your relevancy
>Use dumb fucking reaction thumbnails
>upload regularly
>don't be afraid to spend money on shilling your shit
>look for trends before they happen

None of these are relevant to my channel but I hope they help you out!

I actually have talent.

If you dont care then neither do I...I guess...

I work for one. Literally just a matter of luck and being in a community at the right time

>never stream because the low live view count fucks your relevancy
And if you delete the streams or make them private?

I doubt that you upload is even remotely art but cool story bro.

Ah I would still recommend making a separate channel for those. Live streams just don't have the pull as videos with effort put into them do and will hurt your search relevancy.

My channel is literal garbage and just my hobby thing but if you wanna actively make your channel grow i would just make another channel for that.

this. be as narrow and specific as possible to get an initial following, then branch out once growth in that community has stopped

I got banned for calling people faggots. Then stream me died, bummer.

Thanks.
My story is only beginning.

So is mine like and subscribe
