It's funny to me that there's a lot of G4 nostalgia. I think people forget that the channel was the subject of derision long before Cops took over. As someone that started watching TechTV in the early 2000s I can tell you there was a very strong sense of displacement and anger when TechTV was absorbed by G4. Depending on who you ask it was a shitty channel for a lot longer than it was a good one. I still find it fascinating and fun to look back on, though.

I was too young to have any real feelings on the merger at the time, and I preferred G4 back then anyway. A lot of that nostalgia are from people my age who just didn't really see the cracks forming.

She's always looked to me like she could be Matt Dillon's hot sister.

I feel ya. Is that Leo?

G4 is probably the reason i'm so passionate about video games as an adult, what a huge fucking mistake

FWIW I have nostalgia for a lot of it too. I kept watching periodically up until 2010 or something like that, and I enjoyed Attack of the Show (though Screen Savers it was not). But you can still turn up old "G4 killed TechTV" rage-posts on message boards from 2004-5 with some Google archaeology. Or take a look at this old Wired article: wired.com/2004/06/techtv-fans-mad-as-hell/
It is. ZDTV was what TechTV was before it was TechTV. The "ZD" being Ziff Davis (the same publisher responsible for Popular Electronics and PCMag etc.).

I have the same sentiment, but I feel like there was still some good programming early-merger, like Icons, Anime Unleashed (My first exposure to Cromartie High), and Cinematech (Even if it was just like a randomized YouTube playlist, it was fun as background noise and to learn about more niche games to google later). As they started to axe these shows and others like Screen Savers and Call for Help, the network began to become not only less entertaining but also less informative, and moved onto something without any real focus.

Portal helped me get into PC gaming as a kid all those great MMO's and sims like games they showed really perked my interest.

>but I feel like there was still some good programming early-merger
I think so too. I even liked Attack of the Show. It was a different time. It's surprising the channel lasted as long as it did, with or without the baffling programming decisions from executives. And I think the style of a lot of that programming holds up pretty well. Watching old archives something like Screen Savers or AotS loses its contemporary relevance (obviously) but the format and personalities are still entertaining. Same for X-Play's earlier years.

You are completely correct.

This shit was so comfy. Are there any YouTube/twitch channels that do something like this?

The whole collection got archived and being uploaded to youtube:

I learned about NamcoXCapcom from this show that theme was stuck in my head for a long time.
