Manga will be better if you've got the discipline to actually read it instead of speed through it. But if you just want to relax then the anime will be fine, just keep in mind the anime is only really scratching the surface and doesn't stay entirely true to the source material.

Gantz could be categorized as a "one step forward, two steps backward" kind of thing. I really have a love/hate relationship towards it. For each things the author does right, he shuffles himself and does something dumb immediately after. Most often than not, it's bearable but it gets worse over time.

I'd say it's worth a read but be aware that the last arc or so is full on retarded and every questions you got will not be answered. Which, again, is preceded by one of the best arc of the series.

It's multiple pieces that latch together.

Gantz is basically the LOST of manga, interesting premise and lots of potential but the author shouldn't have tried to make up things as he went and actually planned ahead instead

You forgot the part where the vampire leader and the chick from Kill Bill turned into Gantzers, tried to fuck up the Oni and the Osaka mission (by not doing anything) and then being forgotten for nearly 100 chapters.

I like the series but god damn Oku had no idea what the fuck he was doing.

I wanna add on to this user and say that it follows it up to a certain point then pulls a half assed ending out of nowhere because the manga wasn't finished yet, so basically pick it up from where the anime leaves off, in the book. Not to shure about any other massive changes though.

The art is the best part and the anime doesn't do it justice at all, he's one of the artists with a style that's too busy to translate well in animated form.

Gantz was so goddamn awesome to dive into because it legitimately creeped me out at almost every turn. The aliens were terrifying, the despair and death of the human characters in almost every arc were gut wrenching and then there was fucking Nishi at the start who is one of my favorite shitty characters who helped with the mystery of the entire series.

The ending is such a shame but I still have so many good things to say about the manga that I still adore by the end.

Not this guy but I was decently surprised how they managed to turn an arc that happens in the middle of the story and make it a new starting point to get into. It was a bit clumsy and I wouldn't recommend the movie to anyone that isn't familiar with the manga beforehand but they really did a good work with the movie.

The Kei in the room with "God" was the clone, after reviving Reika, "God" immediately disintegrated her to prove a point. Kei clone enraged, charges at "God" and gets disintegrated as well.

I gotta say the ending panel for Gantz is my favorite of all time. It's a damn shame that the series is still relatively obscure, the opening for the anime is one my favorites.

Gantz was awesome. That one mission in the Buddhist Temple fucked me up so much. It's a shame the ending wasn't good, but as a whole the series was still enjoyable. It was quite a ride.

tldr gantz author got jealous of snk author since snk at the time was gaining insane amounts of popularity while at the time gantz was already fading into obscurity. It's really not a big deal but it rubbed people the wrong way.

Fuck Gantz was cool. Shame the battle ended in a lame way, but up until then it was fantastic. What I really loved from the manga was the sense of hopelessness. It all just seems so impossible, and they always just barely manage to scrape by, but not without some serious losses.

Manga. Read the manga. The anime is absolutely terrible, don't even consider it. You may watch the live action movies if you really want to see the manga come to life, but avoid the anime. The CGI movie is great and easy to pirate too.
