You played the PC version, that's why. Lock-on aiming on the PS2 version of III was really clunky, it wasn't until San Andreas that they fixed the aiming on console.

I played the PS2 version of GTA 3 last year, and I did miss the PC aiming. Also, was it just my disc, or does GTA 3 on the PS2 have weird issues with loading the world? I remember a lot of times where I would end up driving into a "void" because the game hadn't loaded properly.

how are you dying? are you just running into the middle of groups of enemies?
here's some tips:
memorize where body armor is on the map. always pick some up before a mission or before you do something dangerous.
go slow- treat enemies like mobs in other games. inch forward, kill one enemy, take cover. inch forward, kill one more, more forward, take cover.
lastly, this is what made a lot of these missions doable for me as a 12 year old when this came out:
get a sniper rifle, park a car down the street from your objective, stand on top of it, and pick off as many enemies as you can.
OR
do most missions IN a car and run over as many enemies as you can before you get out. when the car starts to burn, get out and run for cover- the exploding car acts as a grenade and takes out tons of enemies

Pop-in was common in GTA III, I remember encountering it back when the game was new. Ended up with my friends laughing at me for a week when I drove off the incomplete bridge, because I thought the road was there just without the textures loading in yet.

VC has great shooting, you just have to be crouched all the time. I'm not sure how many people don't know this

Just get behind cover. You really shouldn't be fighting cops outside of a nice chokepoint like a safehouse anyways.
If you're gonna do a 6 star chase, nothing less than a tank will do.

I 100% every GTA from III on with zero deaths. Each taking about a couple day to do so its not that bad. IV was actually the worst because I kept dying from stupid shit instantly and the cops were excessive as fuck. Doing the pigeons every time you shot your gun you got an instant wanted level.

Yeah, the Cartel wanted to kidnap the Old Oriental Gentleman to extort extra funds from Donald Love. Claude and 8-Ball were freed by mistake, and that bit them in the ass (though Catalina thought Claude was dead).
There was no real reason for them to blow up the bridge, they already got what they wanted. It was just so you'd have an excuse to be stuck on Portland for act I.
What I don't get is how Catalina came to lead the Colombians. If she's Cesar's cousin, she'd be Mexican. Maybe SA retconned shit.
