Black holes are impossible.

I bet you believe the world is flat too, or that vaccinations are bad.

I think new steam version is closing, he updates this a lot faster now, incremental sub patches numbers are going up, I feel like couple months and we should hear something.

Thanks, Family Guy poster.

For me it's the vastness of space and the irrational fear of hitting something when I go at the speed of light. Also ascending to the surface of a red giant makes my skin crawl.

It's a shame that the dev turned into a fucking kike over the last couple years. First he breaks his promise that the planetarium version of SE would always be free, and now he's started removing features to sell as DLC.

I remember when I was afraid of google earth back then.

You should switch Socrates with Plato, it sort of doesn’t make sense considering that Plato’s Cave allegory is named like that because Plato wrote it, but in Republic (in which you hear about the cave), it’s actually written as a dialogue between Socrates and other people, and the Allegory is given by Socrates.

looks fake as fuck how can people believe this shit

Don't mean to sound like a "2deep"-retard, but the idea that you're so small in a massive universe, potentially mutliple universes, with so many things we cannot explain, things we'll never see, things you'll miss out on is a frightening thought, atleast for me.
Black holes are NOPE as fuck though, even though they interest me greatly

what exactly spook people about black holes?
the "no escape past this point" aspect? the fear of one fucking up earth or its orbit? the spacetime fuckery surrounding them? the fact we really have no idea exactly what the fuck happens past the event horizon?
i find them interesting and not spooky so i'm curious

Its cool to think about because we have no idea how rare life actually is. For all we know, life is incredibly rare and our earth is the only planet to have ever developed it.
Then again, the universe is so massive there HAS to be ayylmaos, right? The chances of molecules aligning just the right way to form a living being must be probabable enough in such a large universe. God I hope I live to see proper space exploration.

>Proper space exploration
Even if we somehow achieved 100% light speed it would still take us millions of years to even reach Andromeda, that dream is dead before it even began

I've got a little bit of claustrophobia which is contributing to the fear. Just the idea of ever experiencing a "point of no return" fucks me up mentally.
I remember reading a story about some cave explorers, where one of them got stuck in an incredibly tight part of the cave, and he just had to sit there til he died, with his family there with him. That shit fucked me up for a good couple of hours.
Spacetime isnt so scary, its just physics. A black hole has no more gravitational pull than a star with the same mass so I'm not scared of it fucking with earth either.

Imagine being a species that evolved on a planet orbiting a black hole massive enough to warm it with its accretion disc, or orbiting a star that's having its outer mass sucked away into a nearby black hole. You'd look out into the sky and see pure death and terror every single day

>its another le spooky hole amazing space thread

Traveling at the speed of light probably isn't what he was talking about because that wouldn't be proper space exploration
I guess he was talking a out shit like wormholes and bending space

>pure death and terror
Isn't the sun just that?

Black holes, for example sag a, can actually be fairly harmless and stable

I doubt we'll ever reach Andromeda, but there is plenty of interesting things to see in the Milky Way.

I saw a ''documentary'' where a man got sucked by a black hole when I was a kid(like sucked up into the sky). That kind of made them scary to me.

>Gimme pwanets uwu

What do you need to get the beta? My first and only post on the forum got the attention of the developer

Reminder that life as we know feeds on death rays and breathes poison. If anything the universe should fear us for grey gooing it.

I was thinking more in the line of being able to take proper pictures of all the space phenomenon like black holes, nebulae, neutron stars, etc.

and i dunno why but the whole black hole messing with earth seems to spook some people. guess they heard of rogue black holes and ignored how absurdly unlikely it'd be to have one visit the solar system

In my opinion venturing beyond our own solar system is a dumb meme, we've got a massive reactor of near infinite power right here in the centre of our home and so much resources they will last us forever. If we built even a partial dyson swarm around the sun it would provide us with so much energy that our technological progress would jump centuries ahead.

Will it cost money?

Like most discoveries, they are illustrated by math long before we actually find them.
Black holes' existance has been calculated and hypothesised for a long time now, and now that they've found one they've confirmed their suspicions.

Organic/peptide chemistry has been confirmed on asteroids so I find it difficult to believe that there wouldn’t be life out there, Kepler identified a heap of planets that are in the Goldilocks zone for life/liquid water. Even then take a look at all of the extremeophiles on Earth, there are bacteria that can grow in boiling water, insects that get frozen solid and reanimate and fungi that grow in the core of nuclear power plants. There has to be something out there.

If they weren't breaking laws then they would be okay with us seeing inside them. What have they got to hide huh?

In the center of ablack holeis agravitational singularity, a one-dimensionalpoint which contains a hugemassin an infinitely small space, wheredensityandgravitybecome infinite andspace-timecurves infinitely, and where the laws of physics as we know them cease to operate. As the eminent American physicist Kip Thorne describes it, it is "the point where all laws of physics break down".

Actchually with a certain math calculation of brain chemical manipulation and frequency, you can mind control someone to love you. Aka MK Ultra.

I agree. I do think there are ayys out there, to me thats just probability, but using extreme living conditions on earth as an argument falls short when you consider the fact that those organisms likely all evolved from an initial "spark" from which all life on earth stems from.
What I'm talking about when referring to the rarity of life is the rarity of that initial "spark", the "kickstart" for life and evolution, the initial cell. Theres no way for us to know on earth, the process likely takes millions of years, we'd need to actually find life.

Is there white holes?

Black holes are just too insane. I really want to understand the holographic principle mathematically, because conceptually it's just...too much. It's horrifying also that we live in a universe full of black holes. Also would a black hole be considered another dimension, because if inside a black hole you can never leave the black hole the way you went into the black hole, and to reconcile that the universe radiates "you" out of the black hole but no information is loss because the two yous can never meet?

imagine the smell

Attached: Snímek obrazovky (112).png (1920x1080, 1.93M)

To clarify, we didn't "find" one, we knew where a lot of them were, we just couldn't take a picture. We just made a "huge telescope" and took the picture.

In the event that you
>can somehow remain outside of the event horizon
Your dick gets ripped off
>you cannot keep yourself outside of the event horizon
You float towards the singularity of the black hole, your dick leading the charge, as you approach the singularity the effect of the gravity would grow so exponentially and the difference between two points on your body would be so great your dick (and (you)) would literally ripped apart.

Attached: fastblackhole.webm (960x540, 2.92M)

Honestly we just arent there yet. We act as if our science and calculations are precise, but we are pretty damn new at it. I mean Hawking was someone in our lifetime that helped explain their properties. Like all sciences it will take centuries and countless other minds that build off one another to unlock its mysteries.

Im sure thousands of years from now, they will be understood and misconceptions being weeded out and a lot less scary.

Attached: an_invitation_to_madness_26.jpg (630x491, 319K)

Yeah, thats what I meant. Poor wording I guess.
Better wording would have probably been to say that we've finally "seen" one, as opposed to just looking at radiation and x-ray bursts

How do they discover things by black holes by pure math?

Do they just go to a drawing board one day, solve a math equation and say, oh 2+2=4 therefore a black hole exists.

I wasn’t using them to justify life starting on other worlds, just to show that once life gets started it can grow anywhere, but I see where your coming from. For all we know life could of started somewhere else and just came here by panspermia, theres also evidence to suggest that abiogenesis is completely possible where processes being driven by increasing chemical stability can eventually result in self replicating organic structures which later could become very primitive cells.

>Its cool to think about because we have no idea how rare life actually is.

Not only this, but the universe has only just begun too.

It's highly likely that we are the first.

Does space engine have a vr part yet? I was fucking around with Universe Sandbox's mode and that shit is fun

Please, Vladimir, for the love of god release it on steam

Einstein kinda predicted it. He formulated the field equations and saw that they had a solution which implied a singularity, a point with infinite density, but didn't believe it was a physical solution at first

Probably my best one.

>The fastest thing in the universe

there are things that go faster than light, c* speed, we just cannot see them and do not have the means of reaching that speed with our limited knowledge because we do not have a unified theory of physics so with our current model accelerating to the speed of light would multiply our mass infinitely which is a fancy way of saying we know jack fucking shit

Cause if you plug numbers into a formula or equation whatever it pops is true then its fact because it can be proven
2 sticks plus 2 sticks WILL hive you 4 sticks. You can physically prove that. You can not prove 1 stick plus another stick will give you 4 sticks.

If both sides of the equation match than it will always be on the money. however there is a missing "force" or "variable" that can not be proven with math. Called Godels incompleteness theorem.
Im no expert, but I believe to simplify it is to say that an incompatible equation can pop out a true statement, but you can not prove it. So therefore it can not be true.

First you have something you need to solve. In this case, it was the fact that if you measured the speed of light at different relativistic speeds, the speed was the same.

Then a lot of math goes into demonstrating why this is the case, by explaining it, and also predicting other things as a consequence.

That comes true, so now people accept your theory, and try to apply it in new ways. Then you realize that if what you said is true, and to a large degree you have proved it so, so we can assume it is, then something else must be true. In this case it was that spacetime is curved, and mass warps it, so there should exist huge mass wells that light or anything else can't escape from.

You then theorize a black hole, and now need to try to explain it in detail and prove certain properties of it and the like. This takes a long time, we are still going on something like 60 years now and not done yet.

>oh 2+2=4 therefore a black hole exists.
christ, you're a fucking brainlet

>make theory
>try to find anything that contradicts theory
>can't find anything
>publish it
The hard part is finding the theory in the first place, some of it can be just logical conclusions of others, as the existance of black holes was.

>tfw everyone's screenshots are cooler than mine

How do you do it bros?

Attached: 1466993330956.jpg (393x378, 44K)

Just because something is provable with math does not actually make it true for the natural world, especially because our model of the universe is very incomplete. Godels Incompleteness theorem is interesting but doesn't really have much of a relation though.

find good spots it's not that hard :)

Attached: scr00069.jpg (1643x968, 320K)

Faster?

I wouldn't know because I'm not actually a scientist, just a student, but usually what happens is they'd notice a deficit in their calculations, or make a postulate so that their calculations would match up.
For example, you'd discover x which would mean y would also be true, or maybe you solve a big problem, and what you end up with is a result that doesnt follow our current knowledge of physics. What scientists then try to do is hypothesize possible solutions. Theories are made that postulate conditions and ideas. Sometimes those theories are right on the money.

its fucking shocking how much space engine evolved, I remember playing around with it 4+ years ago and it didn't look even remotely like it does now
