Focus on getting the Su-47 and Su-57 as fast as you can. Su-47 has has UGB which is arguably the best weapons for ground pound missions. Su-57 has Pulse lasers, which shred through aerial targets like they're made of paper and don't trigger the AI's spider sense like missiles do. The MiG-31B flies like a bus, but it's got PLSL's. The MIg 21 is ironically one of the most agile planes in the game and has a fuckton of flares, so it's a decent pick online if you need to grind some money. Team Aces are such huge slavaboos.

Pulse lasers make Su 57 the best endgame plane. Su-47 is the best multirole with UGB, QAAM, and SAAM. I grinded towards the F-35 and F-22 on principle, but I was really underwhelmed. Nothing in the game feels as satisfying as leading your target so they fly into your pew pew laser spam from 5000 meters away.

AC is more arcadey than other flight games like War Thunder and its gameplay has been optimized for controllers for decades so you made the right choice switching to one
Make sure to pick "expert controls" when you first start the game, the novice controls are basically training wheels that severely limit gameplay and fun

I kinda liked that because it incentivized you to use other plane variants. You could get a 100% refund for your planes, so you could always pick the best one available for the job.

This is really conflicting, because I find things that don't match up are better in ENG here. Like Avril has a concrete goal, she wants to see the dark blue for herself, rather than what user is saying where she just talks about how great at repairing planes she is.
The way I interpreted that line of Bandog saying "all cowards, go fly into the thunderclouds like trigger" as him saying "everyone who isn't doing their job, go fly into the clouds so you'll get hit by lightning and die". And the only time someone from Cyclops and Strider calls anyone a coward in mission 7 is talking to the Spare randos who bail out of the situation.
Additionally, things like Fullband's death are much better done when intentional. Bandog being a hardass is much better than him being a silent but stern type, he doesn't like the mission orders any more than you do, and still has to do his job, which is making you do yours, which is a pain when the cons don't cooperate ever.
There are still a few awkward lines, but I personally find it done well, even if the script has a few flaws.

How's the multiplayer on this game? I assume it isn't that great because there are almost no reviews on Steam with >100 hours.

It's just a generic deathmatch and nothing else. No mission/sieges like Infinity or 6.
The multiplayer-only plane parts are absurdly OP.

Playing Ace Combat, watching Kotobuki, then playing War Thunder to try and get that feel just makes me want Aces' next game to be set in whatever Strangereal's equivalent to WW2 was.
I feel like the vibe of the missions in Ace Combat is what makes it so good; not just the ongoing storyline but the way the mission chatter and music makes you feel like such an important piece of the puzzle.
