Lead loss is pretty common. Both MS and Sony did it. Idk about Nintendo, I cant imagine the Wii was particularly costly to make, and the Switch is basically at Xbox 360 strength--there are low end desktops and laptops at Best Buy that can probably mop the floor with it if you forced both of them to run Skyrim side by side. Not a criticism exactly, but im not sure the Switch costs Nintendo much to make at this point

Sony was smart with the PS2, since DVD was a new medium and they released (at the time) the cheapest dvd player on the market that also played games.
Also did it with the PS3G, but Bluray took longer to gain steam. Even PS1 iirc was a good cd player for what it was.
