Ultimately they're just a QTE which robs the combat of any depth it might otherwie provide. Monster Hunter (not World) has the best compromise, where i-frames aren't inherently better than proper positioning because a roll forces you to relocate and probably causes you to miss the monster's weak point. Plus several attacks have lingering hitboxes that make i-framing extremely difficult or just plain impossible.
Because it reduced the combat to a 1v1 rhythm game. Sekiro realized this fact to it's ultimate conclusion so they just made everybody sword dudes and replaced rolling with parries.
Sekiro > BB
t. Has both plats.
>requiring good timing to dodge is bad
???
>Because it reduced the combat to a 1v1 rhythm game
But you can give enemies a much more varied moveset with combos when you aren't confined to needing your enemies fastest attack to be slower than the players quickest evasive manoeuvre in order to make it fair.
Nobody hates them. People just understand what they are most of the time and that's a gameplay compensation to make things playable. Its a way to get around the idea of dealing with hitboxes properly and can be a crutch but this doesn't make it bad
I still love iframes, but I can see why they wanted a game where they can't be abused.
The only issue is they just ended up replacing a combat system where dodging is amazing but not mandatory, with a system where deflecting is the only strategy.
They didn't really fix any of the underlying issues of Souls combat being shallow and overcentralised, just shifted the emphasis.
>BB
>good timing
lmoa
you don't know what a QTE is
QTEs don't require timing down to a quarter second.
Rhythm games are fun. What combat system would you prefer and what would make them *not* rhythm games?
Why not implement Sekiro's sidestep mechanics? No i-frames but the hitboxes are extremely tight so you feel like you're Neo when you dodge shit.
iframes are fine as long as they can't be spammed
who hates iframes? i'm enjoying the fuck out of sekiro as well, but i dont see how mashing L1 to parry is any more "interesting" than mashing circle to dodge. the combat in each game has a different flavor/focus and that's great
Sekiro DOES have i-frames, they're just very tight. Bloodborne, DS3 mid/light rolls, DS2 with high ADP, DS1 light/ninja rolls, they all give you roughly 12-14 iframes, nearly half a second. I doubt Sekiro dodges feels like half of that. You can dodge through attacks, but your button press and the enemy attack needs to feel like exactly the same time.
You press the "not die" button at the right time. Check out that guy on youtube who fights bosses without dodging and you'll see how technicaly it gets.
Absolute retard
Seething Sekingger
>You press the "not die" button at the right time.
Sounds like a videogame.
because press a button to become invincible is not good combat design.
>he presses buttons
look at this fucking noob AHAHAHAHAHA
Idiota
Seething poorfag
Found the coping PClard.
It's not ludo.
Holy shit dude, get help. Qte's LITERALLY flash a button across the screen in case you're a goldfish.
>QTEs don't require timing down to a quarter second
you've never tried to comfort tali in ME2 then
But you are literally a coping Sony tard?
>new from game comes out
>100 threads about BUT BUT BLOODBORN ELOOK HERE
So pathetic
And why do you keep posting that retarded picture? Wow, moons. Sekiro has a million times more impressive locations and moments.
But I bought Sekiro on ps4...
>Wow, moons. Sekiro has a million times more impressive locations and moments.
This. Fountainhead and the dragon alone. Or the mountain forest, or the castle interiors
QTE is mindless DanceDanceRevolution babby tier gaming, Soulsborne Dies Twice requires mixing in dodge with whatever else you might enjoy. You don't even need to dodge in some of the games, you can go shield or parry or whatever. How are you this matarded?
Jesus christ, can you people really not comprehend that there can be (and should be) more to dodging attacks than pushing a button at the right time?
Iframe dodging has exactly the same amount of depth as a quick time event. I'm not going to say it can't be fun, or that it should never be used, but it is no different.
A defensive system with depth requires tactical decision making beyond that, at a minimum thinking about actually dodging the attack via positioning rather than simply being invincible at the right time.
Maybe one day, you'll get to play it.
>jumps in platformers are QTEs
>braking in racing games is a QTE
..But you have to dodge based on your own instincts, not based on the button symbol that takes up half your screen. Are you epic'lay trollin may?
>user makes a good point
>Casuals get mad
Pressing a button at the right time doesn't make you hardcore, faggots. Get over it. If the game doesn't require you to recognize the threat and move around it then it's nothing but Simon Says.
Preparation, distance and positioning do not matter in QTEs. This isn't even an argument, you morons. It's fact. End your lives at once.
It's literally a Souls 3 demo lol
Not him but I played it and the locations are admitidally boring compared to Sekiro.
This but unironically.
Jumping in platformers requires thinking about the area you're in, judging angles and distance, and spatial awareness. It is not a QTE.
Breaking in a racing game requires awareness of the track, your current speed, the vehicle you're driving, potentially awareness of other driving and road conditions, etc etc etc. It is not a QTE.
Dodging with iframes requires you push the button when you see the signal (usually an enemy wind-up). It may not be definitionally a QTE, but it is functionally the same.
>Preparation, distance and positioning do not matter in QTEs
I know you're just baiting for easy (you)s but you do know that all 3 of those things should be considered when dodging in bloodborne, right?
>Jumps in platformers are QTEs
Spoken like a true retard.
>he doubled down
Haha. You sure make a point
Yes, that's the difference between a QTE and iframe dodging, and it is an extremely minor difference that doesn't add any more depth or thought.
See button prompt -> Push button.
See enemy wind-up prompt -> Push button.
I suppose you at least need to memorise the prompts sometimes if they're not extremely obvious, but it's effectively a simple reaction time check just the same.
Because dodging should be about actually dodging attacks, it shouldn't be about having the enemy track you because you dodged to the side and the enemy actually has a slow windup but you were meant to dodge at the very last second and be invincible.
God damnit I want to play this game but not in 30 fps not buy a freaking PS4 for it.
God that framerate is horrible to look at
It looks stupid to dodge into an attack and not get hurt.
Listen here you deconstructionist retarded fuck, you can apply that to literally any game and boil it down to "hit x button at y time".
Stop acting like you're smart for pointing that out, you cynical faggot.
It's amazing how "off" bloodborne feels now that I've played through Sekiro. The dodging in particular feels very unusual.
>area you're in, angles, distance, spatial awareness [which by the way, isn't that the same thing as "area you're in"]
Yup. Sounds like what you do in these games, just made wordier to make you sound like a la dee da fancyman.
by your logic every tactic in fighting games is waiting for a button prompt and then pressing the button like a QTE.
No, it looks fucking awesome. It's like you're hopping over and ducking under attacks and it's cool as shit.
Not that guy, but dodging isn't done on instinct, it's pattern recognition based on enemy animations and distance. The only difference is the timing isn't completely obvious.
>100 threads about Bloodborne
This.
Is it some of defence mechanism? Bloodborne threads have been way, way up since Sekiro's release. Especially in European hours.
fpbp
i was so disappointed with ps4 pro. didnt make bloodborne any better and god of war had a "performance" mode that looked so shit and ran well under 30 fps. the high quality mode was unplayable.
I don't really play platformers often or racing games at all. Just pointing out that there's more to think about than simply pushing the button at the correct time, which is what makes them different to QTEs (or iframe dodging). You are right, spatial awareness and thinking about the area you're in are pretty much the same thing, doesn't change my point.
If you only play fighting games by pure reaction, then sure. But I'm guessing you don't play fighting games if you think that's how they work.
Does jumping have more I frames than dodging in seki?
BBdrones are insecure that Sekiro dumpsters BB in every conceivable way.
If you dodge with the wrong positioning or distance, you get punished. That's why harder bosses like Ludwig and Gael have instant followups to their slash attacks, to catch people who dodged too far away or in the wrong direction. I agree with you that there should be more options (hence why parries and blocks exist in Souls, with Sekiro adding jumps and counters), but I disagree with your QTE comparison.
It's like you're refusing to see the actual picture but instead of sliced off a little piece and decided to sperg out about it.
ive played both and the tone of the worlds are very different and i think both do great to achieve their style and look. i dont see why that user is hating so much on bloodborne, probably one of those kinds of people i guess.
It should be instinct to dodge through or away depending on the kind of attack though.
They’re both good for different kinds of people with different tastes. You can’t really say one atmosphere or story is better than the other because there’s different appeals to both. You can make a case for the combat being better in Sekiro or that the gear and costume variety is better in BB, but that’s about it. They’re very different.
>I pressed the button at the right time!
What do u mean? I haven’t gone back to Bloodborne yet so I’m interested to feel the difference.
literally the basis of videogames
>summed up every game in existence
I love these webms, really shows the crazy stuff that can be done once you're familiar with a game.
Well you still have to give yourself thought to things like "what direction am I dodging towards, am I clearing the threat by going in that direction", "is there actually space for me to maneuver in that direction", and "is this the only enemy I'm fighting, what are the others doing".
Which, again, is pretty goddamn simple and doesn't sound anywhere near as hard as putting it with this wording makes it sound. It's not the level of mechanical skill and reflexes that's demanded of you by, say, a high-level rythm game, but also to call it a QTE is cheap not because of the implications of it being a shallow mechanic, which as far as I'm concerned you're free to argue whether it is or not, but instead because it gives way too much credit to fucking Resident Evil-style action game QTEs which should never be mislabeled or misidentified so that the burning hatred that should be directed at games that employ them remains pure.
It feels less accurate than Sekiro, and like everything requires a greater exertion on the player character's part. Which doesn't make much sense, but it still feels that way within the context of the gameplay.
Whether than be holding circle to run, running, jumping - or lack of ease in regards to jumping, and the dodging, which feels a lot "floatier", somehow, especially in how you dodge whilst locked on around an enemy.
I think Sekiro's tighter gameplay has spoiled me truthfully.
Is Sekiro peak sword combat?
Monster hunter still has hyper armor, blocks and dodges with iframes, it's like you forgot that dual blades is a thing in this game
I don't know why you decided to make thus abhorrent post desu but never do it again
it's pretty awesome. i hope FROM continues to make games with the general recipe (no reason why they wouldnt keep cashing in), incorporating some of the awesome improvements from sekiro into future IPs.
>when we know how fucking satisfying they feel?
>satisfying
lol no no no and no
It is literally the best combat system I've ever played. It's pretty much flawless. I haven't finished DS2 or Witcher 3 yet, and I probably never will, because the combat is actually insufferable in comparison.
It's like MGR meets Souls. It's pretty great
Damn that's good.
>Is Sekiro peak sword combat?
no
>it is literally the best combat system I've ever played.
*blocks your path*
sekiro is definitely a far better game than DS2 but on the other hand its not really fair to compare any souls game to the witcher games, witcher combat is irredeemable garbage. DaS2 has some pretty good fights, they're just diluted by lots of terrible ones as well.
I keep considering getting the game, but videos like this put me off.
It looks cool and all, but how does that combat system actually work?
There's no movement or positioning or anything like that that I can see, it looks like it's just alternating between attacking and parrying (or blocking or whatever that is). Is there more to it I just can't recognise?
That's a shit opinion you got there user. What a shame.
>There's no movement or positioning or anything like that that I can see
This is why you don't talk about games you haven't played.
Might be becuase they had to focus on only one weapon (katana) and just parrying instead of beast animations attacks duels etc instead of all the trick weapons.
Yes
SS Isshin phase 1 neat to just winning by posture in 20 seconds
I think Sekiro's mechanics could make a really interesting multiplayer dueling game desu. Like a more intense and fast For Honor.
>there are actually people who hate iframes
I can't imagine being this anti-fun
>invincibility is fun
whats better then?
you should play sekiro
you fucking casual
>L1 R1 L1 R1 is deep
>R1 circle R1 circle isn't
the irony
at least one is actually fun, the other is a parry autism simulator
Sekiro has i-frames.
who needs iframes when you can *teleports behind u* and unsheathe katana
sekiro is more like L1, R1, circle to dogde, X to jump, circle to mikiri R2 if tou are porstetic casual and L1+R1 for combat art
play the game first
you iframe baby
Based.
I unironically can't go back to the Souls games after Sekiro.
>he doesn't know
This.
Sekiro just killed Souls games for good i guess.
same thing with nioh
What about weapons? Builds? Invasions? Co-op? Things that make a souls game a souls game?
>weapons
ok
rest? get out of my sight
It's almost like it's not a Souls game.
They dethroned Metal Gear Rising in my opinion.
oh and i forgot you can sometimes grapple hook to enemy with L2
iframes are awesome.
I dont like breath if the wild combat because the lack of it.
youtube.com
you can play it really aggressively.
some people cant handle pvp
>soulsbabbies still butthurt their trash series is over and done
>So rectally devastated they still can't comprehend Sekino is not a Souls game
Based.
The only thing left is a new Armored Core game to dab on Souls' grave.
Based.
Is the online for Bloodborne still thriving? I've been tempted to get PS Plus for it again, doesn't feel right without it.
This, really sucks theres no co-op. Ds3 was great with co op idk why they decided to go solo, some of us have friends y'know
I-frames are just crutches for lazy devs who can't into proper hit/hurtboxes that are on model.
Prove me wrong
Protip:you can't
I played the entirety of Dark souls 1 wothout realizing the game had I-frames, I basically played the entire game through blocking and positioning.
The while struggling with Manus I noticed that his hand splat wouldn't hurt me even if visually it hit me, that's when I realized that rolling granted invulnerability, it made the fight a lot easier.
Definitely not thriving, but it's far from dead.
>crying about Sony while shitting on Bloodborne
pc fat cope
>post exactly 1:01 off
lol do you really need to validate your own opinions?
Imagine coping this hard
Those slashes would be more satisfying to deflect
Cope.
There is the whole directional aspect to it as well as the timing aspect. You want to dodge into a place that is advantageous to you, not into say the edge of the hitbox of the swing you're trying to dodge. Also, if you dodge backwards or sideways while locked on in BB, you can follow up with a lunging dodge-attack, which can be utilized to great effect on most enemies
>literally validates himself
you need a hug user? why do u care so much
Monster Hunter in general has garbage hitboxes though, so you don't get hit when you're supposed to and get hit when there is no way anything connected
Image posts only have a 30 second cooldown time.
I don't, you most certainly do though given your persecution complex
iframes are for babies. Literally invincibility. You can't possible get more casual and cheater than that.
>samefags off pc/mobile
thats pretty pathetic user. how much more bait u gonna take?
Did Sekiro finally put the Souls games in the grave?
You wish
>OH NONONONO ONLY ONE MAN IN THE WORLD DOESN'T LIKE MY TRASH SERIES IT CAN'T BE HAPPENING
Goddamn, Sekiro sure did a number on you user.
Because they make all other options of defense meaningless.
In Sekiro, you're constantly forced to choose between deflect, sidestep, jump, mikiri counter, blocking, using the iron umbrella, and others.
In DS3 and Bloodborne, all the endgame fights are just rolling for practically every attack, with optional parrying.
No, its not a QTE, because you have no flashing button indication telling you to press dodge, instead you have to either know or guess when the correct time to dodge is, the game isn't flat out telling you what to do and preventing you from doing any other option until you press the button it wants you to press like it would if it were a QTE, instead you have freedom to do whatever you want, you can dodge, walk away, throw in an extra attack to get that final hit, etc.
You're a retard.
The only thing I don't like about Sekiro was when I realised I was using the correct tools to deal with enemies. I get that is what I was supposed to do and being able to pause the game to change everything to the necessary counter was good, but then there were other things I hardly ever used such as Dousing Powders and Eels... yet they were always there. I always fell back onto using the sugars, they were the most useful.
I like using items, I just felt like maybe I understood their uses far too quickly. I almost always save consumables in games I play, but here it's apparent they should be used.
It's a weird feeling. Almost got all the cheevos now, just gotta finish my NG++
Doing it without the charm so I can work on my deflects, seems like only the enemies I never really learned are the ones I don't know the patterns to.
World doesn't have any more iframes than any other MH game you retard.
Bloodborne did it fine. But Dark Souls 3 is what made me fucking hate the concept of I-frames. They're boring and they immensely dumbed down the game. Every boss and enemy literally just felt like the same god damn thing. If future games go down the Sekiro route with clear concise animations and almost no i-frames, then I'm perfectly ok with that.
If FROM continues making games like Sekiro, I'll consider them the best dev out there.
Fuck going back to Souls combat after Sekiro
And that means everything needs multiplayer? Don't you remember comparing how far you got in a game with your friends in the playground? What about sharing tips when the other struggles? I mean, there used to be the guy who had the guide but the reality is we all have access to a guide these days... I miss those days. I used to run down my friend's house who lived on the same street to share progress.
Look at me, all nostalgic. You're a faggot, by the way. Single player games are great with friends who aren't casuals, especially one you're all playing at the same time.
The monster's attacks and roars have shorter hitboxes.
Yeah, just like the block in Ninja Gaiden, it's a casual ass crutch for losers who can't into standing out of the way of attacks.
As impressive as that is... he has Kuro's Charm. I suppose Bell Demon is enough.
look at this dude
Factually wrong.
>really sucks theres no co-op
This game doesn't need any coop. It's literally designed in best way for 1v1 fair fight experience.
If you need someone else in this game you need to git gud.
Is Sekiro basically confirmation that half of this board summoned their way through the Souls games?
With all the bootyblast about how hard or unfair it was at release, I think so
Kek
>guy deflects literally everything
>"B-but he has Kuro's Charm"
Are you fucking stupid?
The thing that made me start kind of hating iframes is Hyper Light Drifter. The game didn't have any at first, it was actually pretty challenging having to dodge around attacks and projectiles rather than through them. But no, the community bitched and bitched, and they ended up patching in iframes for them making the game much, much easier.
>Monster Hunter (not World)
World has more dangerous monsters than any other MH title. Have you even played it? Or did you just stop after the main story and shitpost about how easy it is on Yea Forums?
iFrames are good and fun, but only if they require a decent amount of skill to them. Some of the Soulsborn series have some rolls that are almost half a second of invincibility.
The best is as follows;
>Dodge mechanic is fast, fluid, and doesn't lock you into a single direction
>Dodges cannot be spammed
>The actual time for iframes is punishing, maybe two frames
>Your hitbox is reduced while dodging for a larger amount on either side of the actual frames
>Smaller hitbox for 5 frames, invuln for 2 frames, smaller hitbox for 5
>Allows you to dodge close attacks with modest difficulty, but requires damn good timing to power through deliberate attacks
>A dodging an attack with iFrames allows you to cancel out of the dodge animation
I dare anyone to improve upon it.
Of course I've played it.
yikes. where's your solo ex-behemoth kill?
