Why are people so attached to Nintendo characters?
4 Most iconic characters in gaming history

They've appeared in a variety of good games
Because Nintendo key demographic hasn't learned to talk either
Giving the characters a very basic personality allows devs and fans to do whatever they want with them. This is why Mario fits in almost every genre and why fandoms like Touhou became so fucking huge (ZUN literally lets anyo e do whatever they want with his characters).
because unlike sony, nintendo knows games should revolve around gameplay, not talking
LMAO NINTENDIES BTFO
Because the franchises started when nobody expected the main character to talk because the only time anyone talked if at all was to give your information.
They are cute & appear in games that most people grew up with or are considered masterpieces
Because they have been characters for over 20 years and Sony drops every IP after 2 games
Id rather have games be games instead of movies like sony makes.
DELETE THIS NOWWWWWW
Who are the 4 though? (Disregarding Recognizability)
It's not like their game design has evolved since 1998 either.
Regressed even, perhaps.
It doesn't need to evolve when they've been making amazing games for 30 years, they have the highest standards for mainline entires in their main franchises then anyone else. Which leads them to get delayed way past their initial release
>4 most iconic
Mario, Link, and who the fuck else? Pikachu?
> 4 Most iconic characters in gaming history
> None of them actually talk
You literally just answered your own question
Talking basically instills a personality in a character. A lot of people may like that personality, while other won’t.
When a character doesn’t talk, it leaves that character’s personality up to player. This allows everyone to use their own preferred interpretation

Savage
>Paying $59.99 + tax + tip + dlc + seasonpass + battlepass + lootboxes + subscription to watch Snoy's exclusives written by literally whos.
voice acting ruins games
see Fallout 4 as a clear example
Mario, Pikachu, Link, Metroid
The highest standards?
They don't make games with the best combat or the best puzzles or the best level design or the best anything anymore.
Their standards are stuck in the same era their fanbase is. While companies grew and learned from innovative titles like Ocarina of Time, Nintendo seeks only to remind you of that time when their talent wasn't creatively bankrupt.
Their standards are lower than dinosaur bones.
If being polished is some fucking feat of game design then congratulations: Nintendo ranks a tick higher than Ubisoft.
What an achievement.
Most iconic characters, solely based on popularity among gamers are these
> 1. Link
> 2. Mario
> 3. Pikachu
> 4. Kirby
> 5. Sonic
> 6. Solid Snake
> 7. Samus
> 8. Cloud Strife
> 9. Sephiroth
> 10. Princess Zelda
> 11. Mega Man
> 12. Captain Falcon
> 13. Mewtwo
> 14. Ganondorf
> 15. Bowser
>metroid
It's samus, but imagine thinking she's iconic. Hasn't had a decent game since prime 3. Nintendo don't shill the series enough for people to know who she is
Samus is iconic, but replace her with Kirby
Imagine thinking she's not, like 100k people voted her the 3rd best character ever in the same year that Other M came out. She may not be recognizable to normies, but in the gaming community she's undeniably iconic
>who the fuck else? Pikachu?
It really always gets to me that people still act like Pokemon isn't a media titan that is more profitable than the GDP for entire countries.

>everyone but sephiroth is in smash
You'd think it woud be such a no brainer, people love him & buy anything with FF7's name on it. I would fucking love to hear the reasoning for him still not being in Smash at this point
Can't believe you actually fell for that bait, you must be braindead
Mario, Luigi, Pikachu, Link, Donkey Kong, Kirby. Take your pick.
>humanity's companuon for hundreds of years
>they can't speak
wtf why are people so obsessed with their pets
>no Master Chief
>no Lara Croft
>including Captain Falcon and Ganondorf
Cats are adept at mind controlling telepathy
Dogs are just retards
> Master Chief
Irrelevant Franchise, Literal who outside America
> Lara Croft
Literal Who, Franchise Died 3 Times which proves nobody cares about Lara Croft or her games
> Crying about Falcon & Ganon
Any Nintendo character in Smash is infinitely more iconic then any Western character, especially ones that have been in Smash for well over 12 years
I don't play video games to listen to faggots talk. Goddamn stupid fucking Sonybros don't understand how that's a possibility.
She's iconic, but not top 4. Mostly because of smash though, rather than her own games.
Most Nintendo characters would be literally who's if not for Smash Bros.
So I guess to answer OP's question, apart from appealing design, they are popular because of good marketing, mainly via Smash Bros.
You like Mario? Heres a fighting game with Mario in it! Also, heres all these other characters you don't know yet, but if you like what you see, we have all these other games you can buy, where you can find them!
Do you think any game consumers would even remember Earthbound, Metroid, Kid Icarus, F-Zero, Star Fox, or Ice Climbers, if not for this franchise?
The only surviving franchises would be Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, probably DK, and maybe Kirby.
This, she's in the top 10 for sure but not top 5. Recognizability among non gamers is utterly irrelevant though, it's how they are percieved among games alone that makes someone iconic. And using this metric, Samus still loses to Mario, Zelda, Link, Pikachu, Cloud & Snake
this
>smashfag
opinion discarded
Because of the games they're in, numbnuts.
COPE, not Nintendo's fault that Sony doesn't have any iconic characters capable of selling a billion dollar fighting game franchise like Nintendo & Capcom
Are you implying that Mario doesn't talk?
who was even talking about Sony you brainlet? Not everything revolves around your party game.
Words are cheap. Let’s smash.

could have fooled me with all the movie "games" they've been shitting out: other m, xenoblade 2, pokemon sun/moon, etc.
It never ceases to amaze me just how shitty the tastes of the average video gamer are.

Damn son!
>Kirby that high
>no Donkey Kong
What a fucking deluded list
Better to not evolve than turn into a faggot that literally posts daily about shoving men up his ass kek
>they have the highest standards for mainline entires in their main franchises then anyone else.
maybe that used to be true, but then the wii's early success happened. since then, they've greenlit over a decade's worth of mediocre nu super mario bros. rehashes, brawl, skyward shit, other m, every pokemon game since xy, etc.
>ripoff of King Kong
>more unique than Kirby
Gee, this snoypony is going all in
Characters on the left are overdesigned which makes them unmemorable. Sticking to simple, relatable designs along with being backed up by a game that teaches you about the character while playing it is way better.
Link over Mario and Pikachu
BASED
>Characters on the left are overdesigned which makes them unmemorable.
Overdesigned In what sense? Characters on the right like Snake, Cloud and James Sunderland have vastly more convoluted backstories than the ones on the left.
The characters on the left also have more distinctive silhouettes than the characters on the right, who all boil down to some flavor of 'generic Anglosaxon dude'
the utter delusion of smashfags never fails to amaze.
>Do you think any game consumers would even remember Earthbound, Metroid, Kid Icarus, F-Zero, Star Fox, or Ice Climbers, if not for this franchise?
earthbound was going to become more popular regardless thanks to emulation and the internet.
metroid has only ever been popular in the west, and smash hasn't changed that.
kid icarus was a dead franchise until sakurai personally revived it himself.
starfox would have been kept afloat by furfags with or without smash.
f-zero and ice climbers are still dead franchises now despite being in smash.
Because unlike what retarded western developers would have you believe, trying to simulate reality as closely as possible doesn't make for a better experience.
It's almost like actions speak louder than words.
