I'm sorry, did sidescrollers magically stop being fun?
yeah i think it happened back in 1994 when the world stopped being impressed with the graphics of super mario world

I dont particularly mind 2D side scroller but I'm sick and tired of seeing lazy pixelart. Cant they have hand drawn art like in skullgirls or Cuphead?
Because graphics doesn't make a game good..
It's still lazy shit. Also I never said graphics were the most important thing in a game.
THIS
that's true, but artstyle and direction are still important for a game, and i'm getting fucking sick and tired of every game just using pixels for graphics because it's the easist thing and/or pandering to nostalgia
literally the only game i like with pixel artstyle is terraria, which came out in like 2010 so it gets a pass. that was released before every hack with a home version of unity, a social justice twitter and a messiah complex decided they wanted to make games
I don't mind pixel art if it's meant to emulate a style. Like what Freedom Planet did with Treasure games.
Most pixel games used to do this, but now indie devs are emulating those emulations, so it's a whole lot of pixel shit with no real vision.
It's expensive shit. Look at how much time and money was spent on cupheads animations. Most game devs are not artists and lack the money to hire the teams of artists required. Also increases dev time. Cupheads took 5 years to make for a short game.
and that's a good thing
