Gearbox had made a fully fledged campaign driven Condition Zero for Valve despite protesting saying 'it's a multiplayer game the campaign is not going to stick with CS players at all' but Valve insisted. Then right at the very end of development Valve pulls out and tells them to start from scratch as a MP game. Randy was furious and bailed. Years later he spoke with an ex-Valve employee who basically said 'Yeah we planned that all along, we wanted attention diverted from HL2 development.' and all Randy said was 'why didn't you guys tell me? Review bombing is a legitimate consumer reaction as long as it's towards the appropriate target. A company's outside actions can have an impact on the game, and they should be called out if they do something like sneak a more invasive ToS through an update, remove mod support tools, or pull their game from a store days before launch.
