fuck it i'm gonna have to be the one to ask this:which sonic game is this?
Sonic Jam
Sonic Jam, I think
I fucking love early 3D aesthetics.
This is unironically the most soul thing ever.
Sonic Jam but it's not a full game, it's just the hub world of an interactive 3D museum area.
thanks nigs
>hyperreal nostalgia
Who else was 12-14 when these games came out?
I hope indieshit moves away from pixelshit and towards lowpoly aesthetics.
but then you guys would start bitching once everyone does that.
It's about fucking time. I got tired of pixel shit 5 years ago
Sonic Mania was a game which had soul-infused pixelart.
The racism wasn't neccesary user.
This
tell me pso or sa2 looks bad I fucking dare you
Press Garden Act 2 is so beautiful bros, how'd they do it?
SA1 was pure soul
There's something about that floating computer that just screams "early 2000's" to me
1. you really don't
2. they've already started
3. almost none of them can nail lowpoly aesthetics without it looking like lazy shit with only surface-level knowledge of that era. So basically the same as the "le retro 8-bit era" they obsess over.
>you don't want this thing because I don't like it
Fuck off
OVERSOUL.
I can still hear that Apple Market tune. MML is my fave game of all time. Such nice vibes. I can play it again and again and never get tired.
Metallic items on n64 looked so tasty
what game
what texture is being reflected off him?
I'd wager a cherry blossom tree maybe.
where can i find these high res images?
wanna change my wallpaper
This gif only supports the argument that it takes more than low poly to be soul
Don't know for sure, I saved them from here a while after Mania launched.
I want them do it so I can get some fucking fixed camera angled games again like og resident evil. There’s legit benefits to that style beyond just hardware limitations and if everyone is doing pixel shit anyway poorly I might add, not like that’s much of an excuse for them
FF7
how about you read the fucking thread
It's Sonic Adventure
So that you can shit on lowpoly?
There's something really appealing about the old Spyro in general. The remake spyro just makes my dick hard for different reasons
What the hell was Sega thinking not making at least one Sonic game for the Saturn?
shut up nigger
They were making one and then it got into development hell for years until it was canned and the Japanese Sonic Team decided fuck it lets do it ourselves. But shortly after they started, Sega was already starting work on the Dreamcast so they decided fuck it lets move to the better hardware. The Sonic Jam hub is the little bit of work they had done on the Saturn prior to moving to the Dreamcast.
It's because game developers had this exciting new medium to work with, combined with the fact that game companies were still largely composed of people who actually liked making games and the whole thing hadn't entirely been eaten alive by money-first business practices yet.
They tried. SoA built STI to create Sonic games but the studio was extremely mediocre. Most of their artwork was thrown out of Sonic 2 and Naka was sick of their work, he moved development of Sonic 3 to Japan. They made Mean Bean Machine, which sucked. And then they couldn't release Sonic X-Treme or even make an engine for it. As a last resort, Sega hired the Ready 2 Rumble developers who made a program to convert Sonic X-Treme's assets in a month and built a much better engine but they couldn't scrape together a game in only a year.
This. Just look at Crash Team Racing. You can't just slap a sub 1000 poly count model and call it "soul", whether or not boomers think this, what makes it looks legit is literally forcing the screen resolution to the likes of 480p no aliasing. I think that's what fucks up AHiT doing it just right, but they came close cuz retro Hat Kid is perfection
>when the distant hills are silhouetted against the night sky just right
Never forget.
I barely fucking played this game, rented it once maybe twice and I can STILL hear the music from this mall
>they didn't even change the player model
To think I was more excited for this game than AHIT. At least I didn't back it.
Mania was too good for this world.
I want a taxman and stealth sonic jam HD collection
>that crazy decade of sonic team soul
those were the days. from sonic to nights to phantasy star to burning rangers. what a decade it was. even if they arent as popular, there is still a ton of soul in phantasy star universe and sonic 2006. traces of it in nights journey of dreams. 23 year old boomers like me sure had it good
I keep thinking that, but then some low-poly 3d models have aged super badly. Not everything was MGS1
PSO looks great to me but I think that's just my nostalgia goggles. The artstyle and aesthetic are objectively great though
I loved Phantasy Star Onlines zones when you hit one of the unique spots. Cave 2 for example had some comfy oasis's, I'd sometimes just chill with my MAG and stare at it.
>They made Mean Bean Machine, which sucked.
yeah pso is one of those extremely rare games that can coast by on its aesthetics. its one of the best looking games ever and will never graphically age
whats going on? dont stop the soul train guys
So colorful reminds me when I ate fruit loops.
Can we give autism to Tomb Raider?
Basically the new Lara is just as bad as the new Sonic.
>When Kirby has better physics than nuSonic
fuckin faggots ruin everything
Hello there, Hippopotamus!
>Going to the bottom of the fountain as an adult
>Finding that secret path near the fairy fountain
N64 Zelda had the perfect amount of detail and complexity
WHEN YOU’RE SUPER SONIC RACIN’
You really don't want that.
It takes a fuckton of effort to make this equally archaic artstyle look remotely decent.
Otherwise, you end up with shit like that YIIK game.
