It can be pretty repetitive. There are a lot of things that break the monotony like events and minigames and side shit you can do, but most of the time you'll probably be going to school, fighting, or training/studying.

You'll get used to it quickly without a map. Don't miss the stairs on the bridge on the map next to your house.

You can avoid the event by not going to the school from 8:00 to 14:00. You can go in early at 7:00 if you really want to.

But the game ends after that, what happens then?

You go to the title screen and can reload your save. If you save before starting the event you can just keep playing.
